Eleven miles, monkeys, meerkats, and more!

Friday came and went and the project I’ve worked so hard on remained in limbo due to the domain name transfer that is still in process.  Frustrating doesn’t even begin to describe how I felt about it but I couldn’t dwell over it.  The weekend was here.

MacGyver and I have a new obsession and we are half way through it.

The OA

So, that’s what we did on Friday night.

We decided to sleep in on Saturday because it stormed for most of the night and when we did finally get up on Saturday it was still pouring and it didn’t stop until much later in the day.  I walked a few miles on the treadmill but that was about it.  I ran a few errands later in the day and then MacGyver and I went to dinner and I did a little shopping but mostly just because I wanted to wear my duck boots, not because we needed anything.

The rain also brought with it some very cold weather and when we woke up on Sunday it was 30 degrees.  THIRTY DEGREES!   In Florida!  So I looked at MacGyver and said, ‘I’m gonna go out and get in a long run’.  And his reaction was something like this….

Have you lost your mind

I’m pretty sure we know the answer to that.  Mind or no mind I had a mission, and by around 8:15 or so I headed out the door with some hot hands in my gloves and some miles on my agenda.  The plan was to stick with my ten mile long run and if I felt good near the end to tack on an additional mile.

This is what I ended up with.

all the miles

I’d call that a pretty good day.   Right?

When I got home, I managed to wrangle MacGyver and Hank out from under the electric blanket and then Boomer and I dragged them out the door for a walk.

Have I ever showed you the smoothies that I refuel with every day after I run?

My smoothie

That’s the nectar of the God’s right there.

After walking the dogs I jumped in the shower and then I told MacGyver to get dressed and we hopped in the car and headed over to Tampa.  I forgot about a little game that’s going on here this week between Auburn and Alabama but somehow on the way to Tampa I got sandwiched between 5 of these buses.

Bama Bus

I have to say that all of the football fans MacGyver and I encountered were so sweet and so nice, it was a pleasure meeting each and every one of them.

In case you’re wondering where we were going, we went to the zoo.

I don’t want to bombard you with a gazillion photos from the trip but I do have to show you some of my favorites so here are a few.

This is the Runner species. This runner almost fell in the splash fountain while trying to pose as she was freezing!

You really wanna go to the zoo right now don’t you?

All right, let’s recap, shall we?

Last week I ran 33 miles, walked 2 miles, did 2 strength workouts, 2 weight workouts, and 1 yoga workout.  Not bad.  My diet was totally on point.  All Gluten free and extremely low sugar all of which was completely natural, (mostly from fruit).

How did you do last week?  Strong areas?  Weak areas?  Anything you want to talk about?

How is your weather right now?

When is the last time you went to the zoo and what’s your most favorite animal?

Mother Nature called, Winter isn’t coming.

After having a migraine for most of the day on Sunday and eventually taking 2 benadryl to knock myself out last night, I wasn’t sure I’d feel like running this morning, but I did. I ran 3 miles, a little progression run that started with a 9:30 mile and ended with an 8:33.

I would have loved to run longer but it’s been unseasonably hot here and I’m not even kidding, it’s hot!

winter isn't coming
I guess when everyone else has got a foot of snow on the ground and the only option is the treadmill for them, I’ll be over here in the sunshine and somehow the heat and humidity won’t seem all that bad.

Weather change not in florida

This past weekend went by so fast which is weird considering that with the clocks going back we actually gained an hour. I don’t know if it’s just me or if it’s a normal thing but it messes me up every year. It’s crazy, I gain an hour yet I still feel like I need more sleep.

Time change
Anyway, we came back from our Cabin on Friday night and on Saturday morning I got up and drove the kid to work. Afterwards I came home and ran a quick 3 miles and then took Hank for a walk. Boomer didn’t want to get out of bed and after walking Hank, he went right back in the bedroom to join his brother, (and MacGyver was also still sleeping), so I did the only thing I could do, I mowed the lawn.

Later I went to the store and bought candy for the trick or treaters which Hank likes to help hand out. Boomer just paraded around in his sheep costume until he got tired and fell asleep. It was a good night although a bit slower than normal.  We only had around 90 kids this year.

I woke up on Sunday and left for a long run which was turned into only 7 miles because, weather UGH!  It was just too damn hot for me and I pushed it too hard and forgot my Replace SR pills which is why I ended up with a migraine for most of the day. It sucked.

I did manage to track a few of my friends running the NYC Marathon as well as a few pro runners. I was really pulling for Alana Hadley who at 18 years old was the fastest American woman coming into the race. She had to drop out around mile 15 due to an ankle injury which was so heartbreaking.

I hated seeing this from her twitter account, it gave me the sads:

Alana Hadley Tweet

I really want to see her progress and I’m excited to see what the future brings her.

Another one of my favorites is Laura Thweatt and she finished seventh which also happens to be the seventh-fastest time in New York history by an American woman. I may be way off base here but I think 7 might be her lucky number, just sayin.

A big congrats to Kenyans Mary Keitany and Stanley Biwott who won the marathon.

And you can call me a gawker if you want to but I love checking out the celebrity runners and seeing how fast they are. In case you like that sort of thing too, here’s how some of them did:

Ethan Hawke          4:25:30
Alicia Keys              5:50:52
Katrina Bowden     4:17:23
Nev Schulman        3:34:31 (Holy shit, Nev can run!)
James Blake           3:51:19

Last night MacGyver and I watched the Walking Dead. It was okay and I understand the need to tell the backstory but I found it a little drawn out last night. The biggest shocker for me was seeing Lennie James, (who plays Morgan), on the Talking Dead after the show and realizing he’s from England!  I had absolutely no idea.

I mean, let’s be real, most of the actors do a pretty horrible job at faking a southern accent, Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan, but Lennie James nails it!

Well, that’s it for me.  I gotta get some work finished so I’ma need to go for now.

Did you follow the NYC Marathon?
Did you know anyone running or did you run?
How was your Halloween?
What’s your weather like?
