Just another migraine Monday…

Forgive me if this post is full of typos, all over the place or just generally makes no sense.  Last night MacGyver andd I went to dinner with his parents and I had a bad headache but I thought it would go away considering I took some tylenol and dramamine which surprisingly usually works, except last night.

We were sitting at dinner and I was trying to not think about my headache when all of the sudden the overwhelming sense to throw up came over me.

No!

And now it’s a migraine!

Thankfully I made it to the restroom but dinner was cut short and I felt awful about it.  My father in law gave me some excedrine migraine and MacGyver drove me home soon after and I drugged myself up with additional dramamine and went to bed.  This morning I feel like I’m dragging a huge weight around but no migraine so I am not complaining.

The kid left on Saturday afternoon to head back to Columbus.  We had a blast with him while he was here.  On Friday we took him and his friend out on the boat.  The dogs even joined us.

My three ‘kids’

The kid jumped off the top of the boat and swam in the water with the dogs.  I didn’t go near the water because it was under 70 degrees and quite frankly until it hits 85, no thank you.

We also did some fishing but it wasn’t very successful because apparently the fish were cold too.  The kid did catch a puffer fish and that was pretty cool.

After a full day on the boat we hit up my favorite thrift store but it was a bust so we headed back to the house and MacGyvers parents came over and we had a huge dinner.  MacGyver smoked ribs and I made sour cream and chive mashed potatoes and a cucumber salad.  My mother in law made a mac and cheese casserole and some corn on the cob so we had food for days.

Apparently the activities of the day exhausted poor Hank and he feel asleep on me.

Before the kid left he and I spent some time together running a few errands and visiting a few thrift stores.  We had a really good time.  We visited a pet store and while we were in there this man came in with a dog that looked eerily familiar.  I asked him what type of dog it was and he said it was a black lab mixed with a mini dachshund!  So just for giggles, here is what it would look like if Hank and Boomer had a baby, (although that is impossible as they are both boys.)

Boomer + Hank = Banker

We said goodbye to the kid around 1PM on Saturday and then MacGyver and I drove around for a bit.  It was a pretty lazy day until later when I decided to go ahead and clean up the house.

On Sunday morning I got up early and decided to get in a longish run.  It was really hot and humid by 7AM so I decided to take along my Camelbak Rogue.  It’s a newish one that MacGyver and I bought a few years ago but I never used because I typically prefer my waist pack however the Camelbak holds shit tons of water so I took it.

I made two mistakes.  First, I filled it all the way.  Do you have any idea how much 2.5 liters of water weighs?  A shit ton.  It weighs a shit ton.

Second, and this was the most critical error, I forgot to test it to make sure everything worked and since it was new, it has a drinking cap that fits over the tube and you have to slice it open.

Oh shit

Carrying all that extra weight by mile 4 I was already dying so I went to take a sip and nothing.  Crap.  Obviously I didn’t bring a knife with me so I tried to use a stick I found on the trail and then a shell but nothing would cut that sipper.  I had to sling off the back pack and open it up and drink every time I was thirsty and it sucked.

I still managed to run 12 miles but looking back if I have no doubts why I got a migraine later.  I’m pretty pissed that I didn’t plan it out better because I was on a roll of no migraines after long runs.  Oh well.

shit ton

Somehow, I managed to run 40 miles last week.  I didn’t run for two days and I averaged 7 miles a day except for Sunday so I guess fitness wise, it was a good week.   I really wish the kid could’ve spent more time here because I really wanted to do a few hikes with him but I guess I’ll just have to make a trip to Columbus soon.

How was your weekend?

Do you ever get migraines after a long run?

27 miles, a birthday, a boat ride and why I’m avoiding stores and people.

Hello from Nokomis, Florida.  We’ve been here since Thursday night for a long weekend to celebrate MacGyver’s birthday, which was yesterday.  He’s still out fishing today so it looks like we’ll be headed home tonite.  I don’t mind at all because I’ve spent a ton of my time here,

The legacy Trailand here,

Legacy Trail

and here,

Legacy Trail

Seriously, does it get any better than that?  I mean how lucky am I?  Including today I ran 27 miles on that trail including this long run that I did on Saturday.

Long Run

Long Run Done, Boom!

MacGyver and I worked on our house a bit too.  He’s been doing some work around the dock and in the canal and I’ve been trimming up all of the plants in the back.  It’s starting to look good and once we get it to a point where we love it, I’ll take some pictures.

For MacGyver’s birthday his parents took us for a late lunch/early dinner at this place.

If you’re ever in the Nokomis, Florida area, I highly recommend it.  It’s very, very good.

After we ate we all jumped in the john boat and took a ride down our canal.  It was such a treat to be out on the water after so many cold days.  Apparently everyone had the same idea because there were a lot of people out.  Here are some pics from our day.

Of course I had to take a few pictures of the pelicans.

One last pic because it’s probably winter where you are and you really need to see how beautiful it is here.

Makes you want to take a vacation doesn’t it?

We’ll be heading home later this afternoon.  I really need to go to the grocery store but I like to wait and go to the 24 hour Walmart around 1am because I’m terrified somebody’s gonna be out with the flu and I’m avoiding it as much as possible.  Every time my mom calls she tells me somebody died from it and MacGyver’s mom tells us the same thing.

Yesterday we made a quick stop at Winn Dixie and the guy collecting carts told us how serious the flu is this year and that tons of people are dying and and he told us how everybody should wear masks and how he thinks it’s a virus created by the government and I just kept thinking, why are there so many carts out here?  I was practically running away from him and he just kept spouting off facts that may or may not have been accurate. It didn’t make me any more fearful because that’s probably not possible anyway

I’m just gonna stay inside with my dogs.  This is a typical day for Hank and me.

Ain’t no lap like momma’s lap.

Just in case you don’t think he’s totally comfortable, here’s a better view,

How was your weekend?

Did you run?  How many miles and where?

Plaids and a ring

It occurred to me that I might have a problem this weekend when I realized that I yell for MacGyver’s assistance anytime I need to get something that would require me having to use a stool or a ladder but I will scale a tree taller than my house all by myself to put up Christmas lights. Every time.

I got about 15 feet up the tree and I was trimming like a boss until I missed a step and fell into the pond. I know, I am graceful like that. It wouldn’t have been so bad except that it was freezing cold out, probably like 50 degrees. I nearly died. Okay not died but I did get very cold and I had to change clothes.

After all that I didn’t feel like working on the pond anymore but I did manage to finish the lanai.

Since it was so cold this weekend I got to do something I’ve been waiting almost a year to do. Last year late in winter MacGyver and I had gone to a pet store and I happened to find a clearance section full of some great things. So Sunday morning when I woke up I decided it was time to take advantage of the cool weather and show off my clearance finds.plaid chucksDo they make chucks in buffalo plaid? If they do I need them.

I spent a lot of the weekend in running clothes. I ran 11 miles on Saturday. You may not have noticed and I really haven’t been all that vocal about it but I’ve been increasing my long runs by a mile every week in the hopes that I’ll be ready to run a half marathon in the next month or so. I think I’m pretty close. I just want to be confident that I can run a full half without suffering from a migraine hence the reason I’m trying to get to 13 or 14 miles before I commit to a race.

There is a method to my madness. My migraines are debilitating and since I don’t take the evil Topiramate anymore, I have to really monitor everything I do. It’s really just that simple but complicated at the same time. I have to make sure I monitor everything from my shoes to my salt tablets but it’s working and that’s all that really matters right?

I felt fine after Saturday’s run so I ran 6 more on Sunday and that brought my total to 17 for the weekend and 32 for the week, 37 if you count the miles I walked.

I only ventured out once other than running and that was for a quick trip to Walmart of Sunday and then late last night MacGyver and I got all settled in and watched The Walking Dead. I have this habit of spinning my Motiv ring around on my finger when I’m nervous or anxious and believe me when I tell you that last nights episode definitely made me anxious. I won’t spoil it for you but when I was watching it and went to spin my ring, that’s when I noticed that tragedy had struck.

My Motiv ring is gone. Forever. MacGyver and I looked everywhere but we couldn’t find it and I am just heartbroken. I plan on heading outside today to look again, probably at lunch time but I’m not holding out much hope. Wish me luck!

Have you ever lost a ring? (I’ve lost many…)
Did you watch The Walking Dead?
