A parade for MacGyver

Today is MacGyver’s birthday.  I had him convinced that I ordered a parade for him but then we turned on the news and he realized that it is also Martin Luther King, Jr day.

So, I guess I have to figure out a present now.  We were in Nokomis for the weekend.  I got to run on the Legacy Trail which you know I love.  I also wore one of my favorite pair of running pants.

I got those at JCPenney’s for under 20 bucks and they fit perfectly.  I highly recommend them.  I noticed the same brand has a pair with a side pocket so I might have to get those as well.

And speaking of running, last week I ran 37 miles in 5 days.  I kept my long run at 10 miles on Saturday and I ran 6 on Sunday.  I ran 7 miles 3 days during the week and I took 2 days off.  And by taking two days off, I mean I sat on the sofa and froze my tush off because it was cold AF last week much like it is today.

Also, when I looked at my fitbit stats, I realized that on those two days, I walked less than 6,000 steps in TWO DAYS and that included walking the dogs.

I have two new things to show you.  First, I got my nails done on Friday.

I’m not typically a glitter nail person but I love this color and it’s so fun. I also realized that I prefer shorter nails so I always get her to cut them down. It makes my life so much easier. See: lazy

And the second thing, do you remember the old china hutch that I repurposed into a media cabinet?

Well, I had taken the two doors off and I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with them so I took them back to Clearwater and MacGyver and I managed to get the inside portion of the doors out which was NOT easy.  Then we got some clear glass and I had some stained glass spray paint so I painted them and now it looks like this:

I wanted to make actual stained glass doors for the cabinet but unfortunately it would have made the doors too heavy so we opted to go with painted glass and I’m okay with it. What do you think?

After seeing everyone else’s photos, I broke down and did the  10 year challenge. I know, I’m seriously late to the party but that’s how I do.

Here’s me and Colin Hay at his concert in Clearwater ten or eleven years ago.

And I tried to recreate the same picture in my kitchen but I didn’t know how to get a hold of Colin or his people, so the 10 years later is not all that stellar plus it’s 10 years later and you know, age.

Same hair. Different side. That’s some progress right?

This is crazy and I have to show you. Did you happen to see the video of the shoplifting couple who got caught and had their two babies in the car?  One was a year old and the other one was around two, and y’all the video of that sweet faced two year old walking toward the police just killed me.  And let me just say, the police were super sweet and kind to that child, what killed me is that she was emulating her parents and that’s just sad because we are what we learn. I hope the parents learned a lesson. For the sake of that baby.

Here’s a few obligatory Hank and Boomer pics for you to ooh and aah over and I’m gonna go celebrate with MacGyver.

You promised cake lady.

What did you do this weekend?

Do you have to work today or did you get the day off for MacGyver’s birthday?

Running, Baking, Crafting and gettin it done

Part of the reason I have such a hard time catching up at this time of year is the insane amount of emails I receive.  Granted, most of them are from stores that I’ve shopped at or mailing lists that I am on but the thing is, I still have to go through all of them, lest I miss something important.

shopping and shoppingAhem.  Any way, I managed to get all of my shopping done this weekend.  And the best part is that most of it will be drop shipped so I don’t have to worry about delivery and shipping and all that crazy post office stuff.  Well, I did say most, I still have to run to the post office today to mail nephew’s package but other than that, I’m all good.

We have family in town this year for Christmas which is nice so I’m baking treats as gifts.

bakingI started making the chocolate bon bons and m&m cookies last night and it’s going to be real hard not to dig into those gift baskets before we actually hand them out but I’m gonna try real hard.

One of my favorite magazines is Southern Living and my mother in law brings it to me whenever I see her.  She brought the Christmas edition last week and there is a cake on the cover that I am dying to make.

Doesn’t it look spectacular?

car cakeIf I end up making it and it comes out okay, I’ll post a pic.  It totally goes along with my theme too, it almost matches perfectly.

I finally finished all of my decorations this weekend.  I wasn’t happy with the front porch area and then I remembered that MacGyver had brought me some old windows.  So I dug one of the windows out and made a trip to the craft store for some supplies and I created this:

Christmas windowdiy christmas decorIt was super easy and just what the front porch needed.

I also managed to run 44 miles last week.  I can’t even begin to tell you how nice that feels.  I even managed a 9 mile run on Saturday so double digits are almost here.

trainingI can’t even remember the last time that I ran over 40 miles in a week but 40-45 is actually my comfort zone.  I think when I get over 45 I start to feel it in places and injuries usually creep up so I’m comfortable staying where I am.  Eventually, I’ll run 40-45 miles in 5 or 6 days rather than spreading it out over 7 which is what I’m doing now but it’s a work in progress and I’m just thankful that I can get out there every day and run.

We didn’t do anything exciting this weekend.  We stayed home and I was able to get a lot of yard work done yesterday and MacGyver worked on our sprinkler system.  I’m thinking I should start working on my New Year’s Resolutions at this rate, I might actually accomplish something.

What did you do this weekend?

How many miles did you run last week?

do you back anything special for the holidays?

Forty Miles, the bridge is open, and so is my mouth while I shovel in the food

Hello from Nokomis, Florida.  MacGyver and I got here on Saturday night and plan on staying til Tuesday nite or maybe a little longer, I can basically work from anywhere so we’re playing it by ear.

the dude

Actually the Dude’s uniform is much nicer than what I normally wear….

We installed our TV that we got on black Friday.  It’s absolutely amazing how much of a difference 5 inches make.  The TV that blew up was 60” and the new one is 65” and it’s huge.  Go big or go home, right?

We also installed the ring doorbell, a new fan in the bathroom, and brought down the new table which I’ll show you pictures of tomorrow.  MacGyver has been doing most of the work because I’ve been swamped with decorating.  Of course as soon as he is finished, I’ll have to reset the passwords and info on all the tv’s, paint all the areas of the walls where the old things were hanging, clean up the mess, and repaint the ceiling in the bathroom.  Who’s really making out here?  That’s why I’m busying myself with decorating.

I realize I might be a tad exorbitant but I just love me some trees.  I did manage to keep Nokomis at a minimum with only a large tree in the living room and a small one that was gifted to us in the bedroom.  I also kept all the other decorations to a minimum with only two wreaths, a large nutcracker and a few tchotchke’s by the front door.  I can’t say the same for Clearwater.  I have 3 large trees, 3 small trees, countless wreaths and other decorations, and I’m adding another large tree when we get home, IF I can sneak it by MacGyver.

Obviously, I’m out of control.

I wish I was as prepared with my shopping because Christmas is only 2 weeks away and I‘ve purchased exactly zero presents.

last minute shoping

This might be a gift card year.  No, I can’t do it, I’ll just have to find the time to shop.  Like that’s gonna be a problem.

So, last week I ran 40 miles y’all.  I can barely believe it.  It’s been so long since I’ve had a 40 mile week that I hardly thought it possible but I did it.  I’m averaging about 5 or 6 miles a day but I did manage an 8 mile run on Saturday and I think double digits are right around the corner.

The part of the Legacy trail that had been closed for months is now open and the bridge is awesome.  It’s a nice little hill and will be perfect when I actually start training for something.  I thought about taking a picture of it this morning but let’s be honest, my coordination is really off and that would have been dangerous so you’ll just have to show you some pictures that I stole from the internets.

You may not be as excited about it as I am but trust me, it’s a big deal.

Here’s another thing that happened over the weekend, my fitbit automatically started syncing again which it hasn’t done since August and it happened randomly.

I think MacGyver almost ran off the road when I screamed that out loud.  Probably wasn’t the smartest move on my part but let me tell you, I got pretty damn excited.  I have no idea why it stopped syncing and no idea why it suddenly started again and as long as it continues to work, I don’t care.

Besides, I’m gonna be using it a lot more in the coming months because for now I’m  on a steady dose of 30mg of prednisone a day to help ease the symptoms of my sarcoidosis and steroids are hell on your body.  I’ve already gained a little bit of weight and I have to be really diligent to avoid those attacks of the munchees.  It’s a constant struggle and unfortunately I don’t always win but I’m doing the best I can.

If anyone out there has had to take long term, high dose steroids and has an idea of how to maintain your weight or stave off hunger, please let me know.  Because right now, this is an accurate representation of my eating habits:

How was your weekend?

Did you do anything exciting?
