Snakes, birds, fireworks, wasps and thumbs.

Good morning to you.  It feels so great to get back to work after a 4-day weekend, doesn’t it?

sarcasm

MacGyver and I got back from Nokomis last night.  We went down Wednesday night to celebrate the 4th on the water with his parents and to get a few things done around the house.  We also did a little shopping and had hoped to get in some fishing but I have to be honest, other than heading out to the inlet to watch the fireworks, I want absolutely nothing to do with the water right now and it makes me sad, but that’s how I feel.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of bacteria in the water at Nokomis, Venice and other area beaches and recently someone died from flesh eating bacteria that she got from wading in the water here.  There have been other recent cases as well, though not as severe but I’m not taking any chances.  Period.

Fortunately, we have a wonderful trail down there called the Legacy trail and I was able to run on it quite a bit.  It was wonderful and I enjoyed every single minute of it expect for 4 minutes and 32 seconds.  That would be the exact time I froze because I ran into this guy and completely freaked out.

MacGyver said he’s a Red Rat Snake or Eastern Corn Snake and that they actually make pretty cool pets.

funny sarcastic

Pets are dogs.  Period.

At one point this weekend, MacGyver and I were driving around and we spotted a guy walking his dogs.  He had 4 doxie’s and 2 corgi’s and they were so cute that we pulled over to take a picture.

man with dogs

And yes, he thought we were weird but is that not the cutest thing ever? Those faces!

On the 4th of July I took MacGyver to Yoder’s for lunch.  He had never been there and I was super excited to take him.  Besides the fact that it’s located at a little Amish and Mennonite village smack dab in the heart of Sarasota, Yoder’s has excellent food.  I never noticed before but on the shelves they have little knickknacks and they had the Amish Butterprint Pyrex bowls.

yoders

I don’t know why I got so excited about the pyrex bowls but I did and I thought it was great that they had the Amish print.  MacGyver was not at all excited about it and thought I was weird for mentioning it.  He was more interested in whether or not the waitress had participated in Rumspringa back in the day because he thought she looked like she might have had a wild streak many years ago.  I was just very glad he didn’t ask her and made a mental note to cancel the network that airs Return to Amish.

After lunch MacGyver and I headed back to the house so we could clean up the boat and get it ready to go see the fireworks and that’s when it happened.  The dreaded fourth of July curse, and it got me this time.

wasp sting

That picture was only 5 minutes after the incident.

I got attacked and stung by another damn wasp!  Can you believe it?  I immediately took Benadryl to try to keep the swelling down but it didn’t work.  And a few hours later while we were watching the fireworks, I forgot I had taken the Benadryl and that’s probably why I got drunk on only one glass of wine and took 73 pictures of my thumb.

I did manage to get these shots though.

The rest of the weekend was spent going to garage sales and doing a ton of work around the house.  It was busy but also relaxing if that makes sense.

Oh, and one last thing, there’s a pond at the end of our street in Nokomis and lately there’s this single wood stork who’s been hanging out there.  The last day we were there he let me get really close and I got a few pictures of him.  I call him Mork.  Mork the Stork.

Mork the Stork

Isn’t he adorable?  I hope he sticks around.  He brightens up the mucky pond.

How was your fourth of July?

Did you have a four day weekend?

Three miles, THREE MILES, I might be a little excited…

You know what feels great?  Running three miles first thing in the morning without having to stop and without any pain.

This is actual footage of me running around Nokomis this morning….

wonder woman

Okay maybe it wasn’t me but I felt like that.  I have to remind myself not to get too excited though because I can’t just jump right back into running every day, so on the days that I do get to, it’s epic.

So, if you didn’t catch it, we’re in Nokomis.  We came down Sunday morning for Easter with family and we were going to go back to Clearwater tonight but it looks like we may be here for a few days.

Last Friday there was a rain storm and a lot of wind and the dead oak tree in our back yard decided it was time to drop a large limb, so it needs some tending to.  And MacGyver is putting a coating on the bottom of the boat and there are many other things to do as well.  Fortunately, I have a lot of work to do so here I am on the computer, you know, working.

pretend work

I actually do have to get some work done but I wanted to pop in and post a quick hi and say that I hope you enjoyed the holiday.

What did you do this weekend?

Why the heck was Sponge Bob there?

After well over a week of no running, I was almost sure that Saturday would be a good day to try out a little run.  I started out that morning and it felt really great so I kept going.  When I got to 2 miles, I decided to take a little break and realized that I was running a bit too fast so I slowed it down a little and ran/walked the last two miles.  I felt fine the rest of the day and I even lifted weights with MacGyver after I ran.

I feel greatOn Sunday morning I was even more excited to get in a little run.  I decided to keep it short and run 3 miles.  I got up early and got out around 7AM. It was super foggy and I could barely see 10 feet in front of me.

foggy trailSEE?  It was crazy and it lasted until around 10AM…but back to my story.  So, I stretched a good deal and picked out a good playlist and got ready to go.  I pushed off with my right foot and when my left foot hit the ground, I felt the most excruciating pain run up my shin.  At first I thought maybe I just landed wrong so I started again pushing off with my right foot and then my left foot screamed.

Oh shitThat was it.  I walked the rest of the way and came home in defeat.  Apparently my left shin is still mad at me.  I plan to see my doctor this week for something else so I’ll ask him about it.  I’m going to take it easy til then.  Walking will have to suffice.

In the meantime let’s talk about the rest of the weekend and I’m sorry to say this but last night I watched the most boring super bowl I have ever seen.  Not just the game itself but the commercials, the half time show, it all was just….boring.

so very boringAnd then I spent the better part of the second half trying to figure out why the heck Sponge Bob was in the half time show.  So much confusion.  What even was that about?

Thankfully, I did see the most hilarious thing on facebook later that night that made me forget all about Sponge Bob.

best fb post ever

Bwah ha ha ha ha. Best Post EVER.

So glad he took that shirt off, aren’t you?

Also this weekend I finally got to see Three Identical Strangers which I’ve wanted to see practically since filming began.  I also saw Love, Gilda and I highly recommend them both.  They were awesome.

There is another movie I’m dying to see but it hasn’t been released yet.  I’m so excited about it because a few years ago MacGyver and I fell in love with this show called Idiotsitter.  It was hilarious.  Unfortunately like all great shows I fall in love with, it got cancelled.

Imagine how excited I was to find out that the main character from Idiotsitter, Jillian Bell, is in a new movie called, Brittney runs a Marathon.  One of my favorite actresses and my favorite sport all together, it doesn’t get any better.

When it premiered at Sundance, it got awesome reviews.  I was stoked to hear that Amazon will be showing the movie…. but not until Summer so I guess I’ll have to wait.

factsIt also just occurred to me that I watch entirely too much TV.

How was your weekend?

Did you watch the Patriot Bowl Super Bowl?
