Responsibility is overwhelming sometimes.

I was trying to think about what we did this weekend and what all I wanted to tell you about.  In reality, it wasn’t much and I feel like MacGyver and I are both a little overwhelmed with home owner shit and all the responsibilities.

responsibility

It must have hit us both at the same time this weekend because we had a minor roof leak that we might have ignored for a bit too long but we couldn’t ignore it any longer, so we had to go get supplies and fix it.  We ended up getting into an argument in the middle of Lowe’s over what type of mulch is better.

That’s when we realized we probably need to get our shit together and take care of some of this stuff, so we each made a list and then we compared the lists to prioritize and that’s when I realized that maybe we don’t even live in the same house.

MacGyver’s list was things like, fix soffit and fascia on west side of house and pump septic for main bathroom, repair stucco on side of garage.  My list was replace carpet in spare bedroom with wood look tile and add a 2nd bathroom in the Nokomis house, rip out extra closets in master bedroom and expand the room, buy new sofa.

not on the same page

Last week I had a total of 35 miles in my workouts.  Only 20 of those were running miles, the other 15 were walking.  I’m okay with that.  Its summer and it’s ridiculously hot so running is not really at the top of my list of fun things to do.  Some days it’s just miserable and walking feels so much better so I play it by ear.

MacGyver and I did manage to do some organizing in the man cave and since the Kid moved out almost a year ago we have decided to put back the home gym.  It’s on the list, somewhere in the middle of re-landscape the front yard and replace the rotten wood on the back deck.

At least we’re eating healthy.  Check out these kabobs that MacGyver made on Saturday.

kabobs

You’re hungry now, aren’t you?

They were delicious and the best thing about that many kabobs is that you can eat them for days!  If you’ve never grilled chicken with pineapple, try it, it’s so good.  We also added onions and zucchini but we both preferred the pineapple.  It was the best.

Last week another sinkhole opened up about 40 minutes from us.  It swallowed a few houses and boats and has put many other homes in danger.  There is a video of the sinkhole actually swallowing the home.  That is one of my biggest fears.  I never thought about sinkholes when I was younger and I can’t really ever remember thinking about them before I moved to Florida though I’m sure they have them in other states as well, but they scare the hell out of me.

I have a confession to make.  I’m a garbage picker.  It’s true.  It’s MacGyver’s fault although I may have done it once or twice before I met him.  But let’s be real, if you saw something really good and in perfect condition just lying on the side of the road ready to be thrown out with the garbage, wouldn’t you pick it up?

What if you could get something like this?

Okay, I admit, at first I thought they were stupid too but that’s what MacGyver and I got this weekend and apparently those individual cars can be worth hundreds of dollars.  We got four of them in excellent condition and lots of extra parts. Boom!  Now maybe we can pay for some of these home repairs and improvements.

What did you do this weekend?

Run, Clean, Sleep, Repeat, (throw some baking into the mix.)

This weekend we didn’t go anywhere.  Not to Nokomis or Englewood.  Not to the cabin, not anywhere.  We stayed home in order to try and get caught up on some things around here.  Let’s recap shall we?

On Saturday I got up very early and did some running, about 10 miles worth.  It might have looked a bit like this:

running

or not but you weren’t here so you’ll never know.

It actually probably looked more like this:

awkward runningBut hey, 10 miles is 10 miles, right?  Right!

And then I cleaned the house for HOURS, and when I say hours, I mean hours.  What felt like days, really, but I sort of like that kind of thing.  I even got a bit of yard work in before it started to rain. I was on a roll.

on a roll

Not this literally

I wish I could have done more because believe it or not, I’m still about 900 days behind.  Give or take a few weeks.

Anyway after that I slept.

Falling asleep

It wasn’t pretty

On Sunday, I got up and ran again, only on Sunday it rained for most of the day so Sunday’s run looked mostly like this,

Raining buckets

Minus the dress and the bags of course.

And it was only a 4 mile run after which I cleaned house again for hours.  HOURS.  Twelve, to be precise.I think I should put my house cleaning routines on Instagram or Pinterest because they should be considered legit workouts.

WOD

Should I put this in my Pinterest WOD?

After Cleaning, I slept again.

sleepy

I seriously do love my sleep.

And that was my weekend.  Yeah, super exciting.  I know.

Two other things did happen though.  One cool thing, we took Woody out to play on Sunday and another red bellied woodpecker flew down to the ground to say hello to him.  It was hella cool and we weren’t expecting it at all. (Hence the reason we ddidn’t have a camera 🙁 )

Woody was so curious and the other woodpecker was so friendly.  We’re hoping he continues to come back and visit and maybe teach Woody how to do the things a woodpecker needs to do to survive in the wild.

The other thing isn’t quite as cool but since MacGyver is a good cook and I’m a pretty decent baker we decided to try and make some of my favorite gluten free favorites so we don’t have to spend a fortune every week at the grocery store.

Yeah, let’s just say Udi’s has nothing to worry about.  They’re still gettin all my money for a while.  Chalk this one up to a big fail!  We’ll continue to try and try again.  We’ll get it right though and when we do, I’ll post the recipe 😉

That’s all.  Happy Monday.

What did you do this weekend?

Do you run when it rains?

Do you love to clean house?  I know I’m a weirdo but I seriously do!

A long Weekend hawking coffee cups for peanuts

Well, that was nice and relaxing.  Because when you have a three day long garage sale and you really want to keep it short, especially when the weather man calls for temps in the mid 90’s, you advertise that you’re ending at 2PM every day.  That way people will only show up til 8PM just as you’re finishing a late dinner and about to undress and jump in the shower.

moron

I wish I would have had this mug to sell them.  I would have even bought it if I could have found it locally.  It was completely appropriate.  People are really that rude.  And stupid.

For the most part though, people were generally nice but Mom and I were exhausted.  We got up early every single morning and worked outside from 6:30AM til 8:30PM three nights in a row and then we worked around my house all day on Sunday.  I think we need a vacation now.  Thankfully we have some hefty garage sale cash with which to take one.

Cha Ching

I’m going to take Mom down to Nokomis later this week and we’re going to vacation for 4 or 5 days and do all kinds of things but until then, reality.

Even with everything going on last week I still managed to run 33 miles last week, 16 of them over the weekend.  I also put over 120,000 steps on my fitbit.   And, I got in 2 weight workouts and a 30 minute yoga routine from a youtube video so yeah, I am feeling a little super human right now.

Super girl Mug

It’s been really dry here in Florida and crazy hot but we’re expecting a cool down and some rain later in the week so say a prayer for us because we really need it.  I’ve got to get going for now.  For some reason I’ve got a really strong craving for coffee….

What did you do this weekend?
