I’m still running and people are still trying to kill me, nothing really changes

Hi.

In Florida we have two seasons.  Regular and snowbird.  Regular is basically two thirds of the year and Snowbird is when the people from up north migrate down like the birds to get away from the snow, get it?

snowbirds

Unfortunately most of them can’t drive.  I’m not profiling, it’s the truth.  Ask anyone who lives here.  You know who else can’t drive?  Teenagers and young adults.  It’s a fact.  I know this because I used to be one and I couldn’t drive at that age either. But teenagers and young adults today are distracted and stupid, and that’s even worse.

Over the weekend I was was walking through the parking lot at the local Walmart dodging the clueless snowbirds, and I finally thought I was in the clear when out of nowhere this idiot young guy came flying around the corner and literally tried to run me over and then did a burnout right in front of me.

what is your problem

I was stunned but I also had a conference call scheduled in a half hour and dinner to cook a shit ton of stuff to do so I just continued on but this lady and her husband had witnessed the entire event and she ran up to the dudes car and slammed her hands on the front of his car and then her husband ran to back of the car and whipped out his phone from his chained wallet and started recording video.  It looked like a redneck version of Dog and Beth.

At first I was shocked and then I was horrified as she said, ‘I’ve called the police, and m’aam, I’mma need you to stay here and testify cause you just almost got hit and runned by this dude right here.’  I politely backed up and told her that I really couldn’t stay because if I didn’t get back to work I was gonna lose my job and she seemed to understand.

So I walked toward my car as fast as humanly possible and headed over to publix where for once in my life I gladly paid premium prices.  And as I tell you that story I will end it by telling you it was the just the first time someone tried to run me over in the past few days and sadly, not the last.

I started steroids last week.  I’ve only been on steroids once before and at that time I remember feeling like I was getting better but this time I don’t feel that way.  This time feels different.  It’s hard to explain.  I am running but I seem to be getting very slow and I’m concerned about how I’m feeling.  It isn’t my lungs I’m concerned about but more my heart.  I can’t explain it really, it’s just a feeling but I’m not pushing myself too hard until I see my doctor again on the 5th of December.

In the meantime, I cannot shut my brain off and because of that projects are being completed, things are being organized, shit is getting done.  Even MacGyver’s Garage is about to get overhauled.  He’s pretty stoked about it too.  We’ll see how he feels about it afterwards.   Here are some of my latest projects in case I haven’t posted them yet.

The old owner’s of the house in Nokomis left this cabinet, it was actually the bottom of a china cabinet.   MacGyver and I used it as a media cabinet but I always had plans to restyle it, I just hadn’t had the time.  What do you think?

AFTER

It’s still not finished.  I took the doors to Clearwater and have taken them apart.  MacGyver has taken the inserts out and I have some really old antique stained glass that I’m going to put in.  I think it’ll look really cool.

This next project is a coffee table we got at an estate sale while we were down in Nokomis one weekend.  It just needed to be refinished.  MacGyver didn’t want me to buy it because we really didn’t have anywhere to put it but I wanted to replace the one in Clearwater with this one because I felt like the one in Clearwater was too big and also it was five freakin dollars.

I don’t have a before picture but here is the after, after I sanded it all down and refinished it and after I hand rubbed it and after I I hit it with quite a few coats of clear coat.

It’s a mid century modern Danish solid Teak coffee table.

Ain’t she pretty

Does anyone else find it hard to work the week of Thanksgiving?  I am finding it damn near impossible.  Well, let me put this another way, I’m finding it impossible to my actual work.  Projects around my house in my steroid induced haze are a breeze.  If I don’t get better soon, I’m going to need a new career path…

What are you doing for the holidays?

I’m back.

I guess I’ve been MIA for a while, huh?  Well, it wasn’t really intentional, it’s just that we’ve had a shit ton of stuff going on around here and quite honestly, I wasn’t all that motivated to write about it.  I’m back now so let’s catch up.

soccer

First and foremost, how freakin long are the World Cup Games?  I mean, jeez Louise, it’s been weeks since I’ve seen Kelly and Ryan and I’m starting to wonder if soccer is a permanent part of the Fox Network now.  No offense for those of you who love soccer, it’s just a bit much for me.

And also, has anyone else noticed the similarities here?

I’m just sayin.  Is it just me or do you see it?

I haven’t been running since Friday so obviously I’ve had a lot of time on my hands.

MacGyver is buying all the bells and whistles for the new boat.  He’s purchased new drink holders, and hatch covers, and rod holders and such but most importantly, he bought this:

Hank in his life vest

Hank has already roamed around the boat a bit while it sat in the yard.  Boomer hasn’t been in it yet.  I’m so excited to take them out in the new one because now Boomer has a place to lay down when he gets too hot or tired.

I might even put their favorite rug in there.

dogs

Seriously, how cute are they?

It’s been raining a lot here.  The good news is my flowers are growing like weeds and the mallards have become permanent fixtures so were happy with that.

My mother in law is doing a bit better.  She just had round two of the chemo treatments and is handling them very well.  She hasn’t thrown up at all which is wonderful news.  The treatments have been hard on her stomach though and after the first treatment she developed an ulcer which bled a lot and landed her in the hospital again.  We have to watch carefully to make sure that doesn’t happen again but, other than that, the side effects haven’t been too bad.

And as I mentioned, I haven’t really been running all that much.  The reason is because last week I started feeling short of breath again.  I didn’t really mention it to MacGyver at first but then I told him and my mom about it.  I’m a bit worried because of the pulmonary nodules that they found last year.  I had attributed it to the topamax since I had issues with breathing once I started taking it and I thought because I went off of it, the breathing issues would go away.

They came back and also when I was weeding the yard last week I got dizzy when I stood up and felt like I would pass out.  This and the breathing have me worried.  Unfortunately I can’t get into see the pulmonologist until August 3rd so I won’t know anything until then.  And until that time, I’m gonna,

Dr. Google

It’s a really short week with the fourth being on a Wednesday so MacGyver and I are heading to Nokomis for a little break and Lord knows,  I need it.

What have you been up to lately?

TV’s, Miles and Chainsaws, a weekend update.

My computer is driving me insane. It is so damn slow that I can literally click to open an email, go get a cup of coffee, come back and then maybe, just maybe, the email will have opened. But probably not.

slow computer

And today of all days is flippin Cyber Monday. I need my computer! Not that I didn’t shop over the holiday weekend because I definitely did. Not so much on Friday though because MacGyver and I have a tradition and it happens a few hours after our Thanksgiving dinner.

It’s called TV after Turkey Thursday.

TV Thursday

For the last three years MacGyver and I have battled the crazies at Walmart in order to score that coveted prize of a new TV. The first year we bought one, last year three, and this year we scored two Sharp 55” 4K smart TV’s.

No, we don’t actually need them but we just love a good bargain. Come to think of it though, I should have been looking for a new computer.

Over the weekend I managed to run 13.5 miles, 9 on Saturday and 4.5 on Sunday. I’m not gonna lie, those nine miles on Saturday were hard towards the end but I got it done. I didn’t stop once and afterwards, I did NOT get a migraine. Progress. I can feel the fitness level rising.

Define runningI also decorated over the weekend and I say over the weekend because it took a total of two full days and I’m still not finished. I may decide to keep it low key this year and stop at three trees, or not.

over decorating
There is something so addicting about all those lights…and clearly, I need to visit an over-decorators anonymous meeting before I duplicate that madness.

I wasn’t able to decorate my backyard because I needed to finish trimming back some trees and I have been waiting on MacGyver to do that since, forever. But now I can do it myself because late Saturday he gave me one of my Christmas presents early.

chainsaw
The ban has been lifted and I am now using power tools again. I can’t wait to get out into the backyard and trim those trees. I also have a pretty good idea about what I can do with my computer if it doesn’t speed up soon!

How was your weekend? Did you have a fantastic Thanksgiving? Did you shop?
