My video surveillance saves the day again.

I had a plan.

Yesterday I had my to do list all ready to go. I ran five miles, then walked the dogs and finally at 8:45 I sat down to conquer the day and let me tell you, I was ready!

And then, my computer crashed.

I was pretty sure I knew what the problem was but I had to go on another computer to google all of the issues and then try and fix it, which I did, after a deadline, and just before lunch.

I was just about to make some lunch when I heard my neighbor yelling and so I ran outside to see what was going on. My neighbor has a gold and yellow macaw named Gracie and apparently she up and disappeared. She doesn’t really fly all that far so I was thinking that she probably walked across the road and was hiding and I decided to check my security system to see if I could tell which way she went.

And that’s when all hell broke loose.

In the footage from my surveillance cams I noticed a yellow car parked in front of my neighbor’s home so, I asked her if she knew the people in the car and she said no. Then we decided to view the video of the car a little bit closer just to see if we could tell why it was sitting there so I zoomed in.

And that’s when we first saw a woman get out of the car and grab a blanket or towel and throw it over Gracie and put her in the car.

An actual birdnapping right in front of us!

Holy Shit

And, it had happened just a half hour earlier!

My neighbor called the police and they spent the next few hours looking over the scene and viewing the video. Fortunately, it’s a brand new system that MacGyver installed this weekend, (black Friday sale) and the police were all kinds of impressed with the quality, but unfortunately because it’s new, we have no idea how to get the footage off the system and onto a jump drive or a disc.

were idiots
The police will be coming by at some point today and their IT guy will figure it out. I’m just happy I don’t have to try and figure it out and risk losing the data. That would suck because I’m hoping with the footage they can get their bird back.

Wouldn’t it be great if I could have their forensic IT person actually look at my computer and figure it out too? Yeah, I’m not counting on it either but I can dream.

Do you make to do list or are they over rated?

Who do you call when you have computer problems?

The end to a Rite of Passage…

When I was a kid going to a concert was a rite of passage.  It was something you looked forward to until you could actually go by yourself.  When the day finally came and your parents actually dropped you off and told you where to be for the pickup, you were more excited about the prospect of going than for the actual concert itself.

Concert time

I remember it seemed like it took forever to convince my parents that going to a concert was a good idea and the convincing came from the unlikeliest of sources, my Mamaw.

We used to go to my Mamaw’s house every Friday and I remember sitting in her dining room and she was talking about a concert that she had been to.  She said that she had only ever loved two men in her whole life, my Papaw and Mel Tillis, and she said it while she was sporting a MMMMel Tillis concert T-shirt.

I used her story as leverage, not the lovin’ two men part but the going to a concert part, and it worked.  I told my parents that if my Mamaw could go to a concert then surely it was safe enough for me to go.  Of course back then about the worst thing my parents had to worry about was whether or not I would take drugs or leave with somebody, and they hoped they had brought me up to know better.   I didn’t always make the best decisions but I wasn’t stupid either.

brain freeze

I mostly stayed away from the hard stuff.

As I got older I started to prefer smaller shows and even now, when MacGyver and I occasionally go to a concert, we prefer intimate settings like small theaters over large arenas.  Maybe we’re just old.  If MacGyver’s hearing and my eyesight is any indication, well, we’re old.

dancing granny boss

I don’t care, I’m still a dancing granny boss, just maybe not yet a granny and I dance at home now, (mostly to avoid embarrassing the family).

MacGyver and I were watching the news last night and we saw the tragedy occurring in Manchester.  It was heartbreaking.  I thought about what those parents must be going through and it is gut wrenching.  These are not the concerts that I dreamed about when I was younger, that my kid dreamed of, and I’m sure it’s not what those children dreamt of either.  What is wrong with this world?   Why are people so broken?

This is not the same rite of passage anymore…..

Tuesday tangents

I just got back from walking the dogs and taking a five mile walk myself and now I’m sitting here watching the CSI van roll by.  Nothing tragic to report just another robbery in the neighborhood.  Another vehicle break in.

It’s so annoying to watch helplessly as my little neighborhood just repeatedly gets targeted over and over again and all we can do is just sit here like targets and it’s all because of the way we are zoned.  Just to give you a basic idea, my house is county but the house directly across the street is city and the house next door to it is county and the house directly behind it is city.  It’s a ridiculous mess and when a crime occurs such as a minor break in and the police are called, the 911 operator has no idea who to direct the call to and God forbid we have an emergency.  I’m so afraid that one day I’ll have a need to call for medical services and they won’t know who to dispatch and the outcome will be determined by the mere seconds it takes for them to decide….I shudder to think about it….

On the other hand we sort of have it made because we are zoned county so we can have small farm animals and fires, so there’s that.

fire pit

I ended up with a migraine yesterday but not because I ran.  I know this because I have been keeping really good records and I hate that I have to do this but it’s become necessary, otherwise I wouldn’t know what went wrong because Topamax does help with migraines but for memory, not so much.  Anyhow, I took a peek at Saturday and Sundays diet notes and then I looked over what I drank and I was a little shocked to see that I didn’t drink very much at all.  Bad girl!

Migraine mystery solved.  Also, Topamax and too little water is a no no since it can cause kidney stones so I won’t be making that mistake again.  We learn from our mistakes right?  I wish I would have caught it earlier instead of losing half a day to a migraine but it wasn’t so bad.  I made a fort blanket in the media room with the dogs and we chilled out for a while. I feel all better today.

I’ve got a visitor coming tomorrow and so do the dogs….

How much water do you drink in a day?
