The surprise attack.

We didn’t go anywhere this weekend but I feel like I ran 3 marathons!  I got shit done y’all, for  real.

On Friday afternoon MacGyver and I went shopping. Typically he doesn’t go with me because well, he’s a dude, but I had coupons for epoxy resin for my sharks tooth designs and he loves a good epoxy.  Of course no trip to the craft store is complete without a trip to a clothing store and MacGyver must have been high from the epoxy fumes because look what he bought for me.

I never want to take it off!

I never want to take it off!

On Friday night I decided the lanai needed some redecorating.  Since MacGyver was able to repair my treadmill and I plan on using it a bit more I needed some ambiance.  I think I nailed it.

My treadmill is positioned smack dab in the middle.  It’s like running at a rave!  (Do they still have those?)

Saturday morning when I woke up the weather was beautiful so I decided to attempt a long run.  I ran 8 miles near the house and I was feeling so good I decided o run more.  Right about that time I felt a push from behind and then realized I was falling.  I didn’t know what had happened at first and then I felt the weight on my back and then the breath on my neck and I saw a lady running towards me.

I’m familiar with the dog, I had seen it many times in the fenced backyard, a Chow and German Shepherd mix.  I had no idea if it was nice or not but it always barked and snarled when I ran past. Now that he was standing on my back I was pretty sure he was not nice and I was extremely grateful when the owner pulled him off.

He didn’t bite me but he scared the bejesus out of me, so 8 miles was the end of my run on Saturday.  Several hours later MacGyver and I were in Lowe’s and I got an insane migraine.  I don’t know whether it was the run or the dog that caused it but I came home and took a nap.

We have some friends in town from Vermont and they came over on Saturday night for a short visit and afterwards MacGyver and I went to bed.

The kid wasn’t due to come home until very late Sunday night or early Monday morning so on Sunday morning I got up and ran 4 miles in the opposite direction of the angry dog and then MacGyver took me to breakfast.  We decided to just relax on Sunday and have an easy day which wasn’t too hard considering we had these new guys to play with.

Today I have to get some work finished as soon as possible because I’ve got a special guest coming tonite……

So, enjoy your Monday!

When’s the last time a dog jumped on you and knocked you down?

Have you ever been bitten by a dog?

Cold Fronts, Speedwork and Lucy

I turned on the news first thing this morning and immediately heard the weather anchor say “With the cold front that blew in overnight, temperatures in the bay area are much cooler and a lot more comfortable.”

cold front?

Bitch please!

It didn’t feel all that cool to me but I had to get in a quick run because I had to take the Kid in for a minor medical procedure at 8:30AM and since it was only 5:30AM and pitch black dark outside, I decided my only option was a 3 miler on the treadmill.

And since time was limited, I thought I would try a little speed. I finished in 25:56. My splits were:

mile 1   9:01
mile 2   8:44
mile 3   8:11

Note to self: Speed work is best on days when I have little time to spare.

Unfortunately I don’t have much time to update here either because I’ve got to hit up the apple store. Don’t ask!  Just don’t.

But, before I go, one more thing, today is National I love Lucy Day!

Well said Lucy!

Be good to yourself and have a fantastic day, I’ll be back tomorrow morning….

How often do you do speedwork?
Do you make speedwork a priority? Why or why not?
Have you ever watched “I love Lucy”? It was one of my favorite shows when I was younger.

Speeders shall be stoned!

The past week was awesome. I got to spend time with my sister and her husband fishing and hanging out in Englewood. They had to leave yesterday afternoon and MacGyver and I had to return to Clearwater and get back to work as well.  Unfortunately, my sister and I never did catch the elusive snook we were after but the guys did. Here is MacGyver’s catch.

We were all impressed, even Hank!

Maybe my sister and I will have better luck for crappie season, if we can stay away from the damn catfish.

Fast forward to today, I woke up this morning and it was 73 degrees. SEVENTY THREE! Of course the best part is, the dew points were only in the sixties so the humidity was much lower than usual. Y’all that is some cool and crispy weather for this time of year.

florida weather

Don’t get me wrong, it will still be around 88 – 90 degrees by the afternoon but this morning was pure bliss and with lower humidity the afternoon should be almost comfortable.  I said almost.

I should’ve really run outside with those temps this morning but I chose the treadmill instead because, well, I missed it. I can’t believe I said that either.  Somebody pinch me.

I ran 6 miles at a 1% incline and I was happy with that but I just really wanted to be outside so I took the dogs for a walk. My dogs love to take morning walks. Actually, they love walks at any time of the day but especially in the morning.

Did somebody say walk?  Walk?  Walk?  Yes please!

I left the house around 8:45AM with Boomer and Hank in tow. I decided to take them on our usual route which is around a half mile through the neighborhood. The speed limit in our neighborhood is 25 mph. It’s posted in numerous locations but apparently it isn’t obvious enough because I am constantly dodging cars driven by idiots.

That’s why when I saw this sign, I knew I had to have it.

speeding sign
Wouldn’t that be an awesome sign to have? I wonder how long it would last before someone ripped it down.   Or sped over it….I’m betting less than a day.  In the meantime I guess I’ll just be forced to throw rocks at those speeding bastards until I get myself one of those signs.

Do you run outside even when it’s hot?
What’s your ideal running temperature?
Have you ever narrowly missed a speeding car while out running or walking?
