Valentines Day and the Walking Dead, My Perfect day.

And just like that the weekend is over, how did that happen so fast?  And today is President’s day which means maybe 2 of you lucky people will have the day off and for the rest of us, well, we’ve got…

presidents day sales

Let’s talk about my weekend, we’ll start with Friday because on Friday I ran 6 miles that morning and then I got a full days work in so I pretty much felt like a superstar. Later in the evening MacGyver was working in the garage so the kid and I ran a few errands. We went to the grocery store and to Wal-Mart and I had to run to a few specialty stores.  Before long it was dinner time and I had absolutely nothing prepared, so we stopped at Popeye’s Chicken.

I don’t mind Popeye’s, it’s not my favorite, it’s not my least favorite, it’s just meh, and I was hungry.  The guys however think Popeye’s Chicken is the best.  Actually I think it’s the Cajun Sparkle, they probably don’t really care about the chicken at all but they hoard that damn sparkle.

After dinner we all watched a little television and then MacGyver and I headed off to bed. My plan was to get up early, run 10 miles and then watch the Olympic Trials.  This was one of those weekends where I was so excited,  I could hardly wait for Saturday.  I knew I wouldn’t have any problem falling asleep because I was exhausted.

wake up throwing up
From 1:30AM until 5:30AM I threw up a small cafeteria worth of food. It was horrible. Nothing would ease the sensation to throw up and no matter what I tried, it just kept coming up. When there was no more food, I threw up liquid, and when there was no more liquid, dry heaves. It was bliss.

Needless to say the run on Saturday did not happen. I was so sick I almost went to the ER but somehow I managed to get through it. I felt well enough on Saturday to watch the Olympic Trials and that was about it, but that was all I needed, it was so exciting.

Amy Cragg is super human!  She has trained her butt off because she didn’t not even resemble the same runner from 2012.  Don’t get me wrong, she was obviously a great runner in 2012 but she is THE one to watch in 2016.  Amy Cragg could bring home a gold medal.

Can you just imagine how she would have done if she hadn’t been hanging back with Shalane the last few miles? Don’t get me wrong I think that it was highly admiral of her and it just shows you what kind of person she is but she is in top form and if the Trials were any indication, she is going to kill it at the Olympics.

I was pretty impressed with Desi as well. Although I think she could have closed the gap a little sooner and maybe have even taken first from Amy Cragg but her strategy was on point and she ran a smart race.

For the men, holy Moses, Galen Rupp ran his first marathon, and HE WON!  And of course, Meb came in second which was stellar.  After watching the trials I wanted to run so bad, it was killing me, but I loved watching all that talent and I’ll have plenty more to say about the top 3 in the weeks to come.

Sunday was Valentine’s day and MacGyver and I decided we didn’t want to go out to dinner because of my stomach issues and we decided not to spend any money on gifts this year. So instead of shopping and spending a ton of money, I made MacGyver homemade rock candy and he built me a drawer for a cabinet that I’m refinishing. It was my favorite Valentine’s day ever, bar none, and I sincerely mean that.  (Holy crap, when did I become so grown up?)

I also felt much better that morning so I was able to run ten miles with no problems at all, not even a migraine. We topped off our perfect day with the best thing ever….an all new episode of The Walking Dead!

The quiet down kid...
Yes you do Sam, yes you do.

This morning we are headed down to Nokomis and Englewood for the week. I’ll tell you all about it tomorrow. because I have to get on the road now.  Hang in there, Monday will be over before you know it, unless you’re one of the lucky two who has the day off because if you are, it will fly by.

Did you watch the Walking Dead?
What did you do for Valentine’s day?
Did you watch the Olympic Trials?

WTF Wednesday, severed fingers and dirty dishes.

Every night around 9PM I lay out my running clothes for the next morning, I pack the guys a lunch if they need it, I get the coffee ready to start brewing at exactly 5:40AM, and I pick up the kitchen, put everything away, and wipe everything down. Last night was no exception except that as I was putting away the dishes in the dishwasher I noticed a few spots on one of the spoons.

At first I blamed it on one of the guys not rinsing the dishes before loading the dishwasher but then I noticed some food on a pot. It was shortly after that, when the dishwasher was almost completely unloaded and all the dishes put away that I realized, no one had run the dishwasher.

what the hell
So I had to locate everything that I had just put away and then reload the dishwasher and actually run it.  And even though I’m a bit hesitant to admit it, this might have happened before.

Typically for Halloween I make my standard mouse cookies which look sort of like this:

mice cookies
You can read all about how to make them here.

This year I wanted to mix it up a bit so I decided to make some severed finger cookies. I had to make a few batches before I got it right, but they still didn’t look all that great. When I finished I was a bit disappointed so I just threw them all in a container and popped them in the fridge.

The next day MacGyver pulled them out and holy all that is Halloween and scary do they look awesome.

See for yourself:

If you want to try to make them yourself, here is a recipe. They look a lot better than mine but I couldn’t get the fingers to fatten up no matter what I tried. If you can accomplish the fat finger look, please let me know how you do it and I might just attempt to make them again.

Did you watch The Walking Dead this week? I don’t want to give anything away in case you haven’t seen it but MacGyver and I have a bet going. I say he’s dead and MacGyver says he’s not. If you’ve seen the episode and you know what I’m talking about, what do you think?  I will say I’m glad to see the old Carol.  I like killer Carol so much better than baking cookies Carol, don’t you?

Remember when I gave up drinking soda? Well, except for 2 occasions of weakness, I’m still soda free. And after seeing this video, I couldn’t be happier!  Watch it and you will never want to drink soda again.

WTF? Because Wednesday!

You know how it works, tell me about one of your WTF moments this week.

Teenagers and Zombies, this is my life….

Happy Tuesday my people. How are you?

I am feeling pretty spritely. I took the day off from running yesterday and I ran a short 1.25 miles this morning. I’ve decided to ease myself back into my morning routine of running and to also add in some cross training. Shit’s about to get real people. I don’t want to run junk miles and just finish races. I want to compete and I’m about to go all serious on my training….stay tuned.

I’ve probably mentioned it at least 10 times but I was down in Venice. My niece is in town for Spring Break. She brought along some friends. At first she asked if she could bring around 4 or 5 but then that became 7 and it ended up with ’just her and 9 of her closest friends’. I went from super excited to super terrified in about 10 seconds flat. Sort of like this:

Excited then Terrified

Seriously though, I was excited. I couldn’t wait to show them around because most of them had never been here before so of course, one of the first things I did was take them to a craft fair:

Nokomis Craft Fair

And they had the typical teenage reaction to that:

Throw up

But later we took them to what was probably one of the largest drum circles I have ever seen at Casey Key on Nokomis Beach and they had a really good time. Can you believe how many people came out for this?

largest drum circle

Nokomis Drum Circle

They even danced inside the drum circle. MacGyver and I love watching all of the performers and when it comes to participating in the activities like hula hoops and belly dancing, I’m going to have to say:

I also took the girls to Nokomis Groves and I’m pretty sure my niece is now addicted to the orange and vanilla ice cream and will be visiting daily. I only hope that my sister doesn’t send me the dentist bill….

The weekend was not without issues though because in case I didn’t mention it, our Venice house only has 1 bathroom..I know right? 10 girls + 1 bathroom = chaos! So, MacGyver and I got to work on a solution:

outdoor bathroom

Problem solved. Well, except for Sunday when we had pretty serious winds. The shower curtain kept blowing open so that was a bit of a problem. Fortunately, we got through it.

It was fun but I don’t have teenage daughters and I never have so after a few days I was frazzled.

Getting on my nerves

Oh. My. God. I am that lady. I had no idea how uncool I actually am. Apparently craft fairs, garage sales and bargain shopping are not exactly what all the cool kids are doing. Who knew?

Shut up

Since we didn’t have much to offer in the way of ‘cool ideas’ MacGyver and I headed home. We got back on Sunday nite just in time for The Walking Dead. Holy Zombies! WTF?

*Spoiler Alert ahead* (If you haven’t seen the latest episode, you may want to exit now..)

Did anyone else see that coming? I was completely caught off guard. I totally expected Lizzie to go all psycho, ala murder a few innocents or something, but I had no idea that she would actually stab Mika to death. Crazy, Holy Zombie Shit!

And poor Carol, it just killed me to watch her have to shoot Lizzie. Heart wrenching. I was beginning to get a little bored with this season but no more. Dang.

And that’s that.

Did you watch The Walking Dead? What did you think?

What did you do on your spring break when you were a teenager?
