This morning I was determined to run at least 4 miles although I had already made up my mind that if I felt like it, I would run longer. Of course that was how I felt before I got out of bed.
First I overslept. And then I realized my Garmin 620 was dead.
I got my old Forerunner 405 out and for some other worldly reason, it was charged. Obviously it’s been a while since I used it and guess what? Yeah, I forgot how. By the time I figured it out I was already a few blocks in.
The final straw was my water bottle. I haven’t carried one in a while because typically I don’t need to when it’s cooler outside, but when it’s 74 degrees already at 7am you tend to need water. I brought along my favorite hand-held bottle that my hand slips through but it made my fingers numb by the first mile.
I ran the first mile in a slow 10 minutes and the second in 9:22 and by mile 2 I was over it and I ran straight home.
But I didn’t give up.
I ditched the garmin and the water bottle and I got on the treadmill. I walked for just a few seconds and then I ran a mile in 9:49. I was feeling good so I started slowly speeding up and I ran the second mile in 8:11 and it felt amazing.
I was going to keep going but I decided not to push it since I’m doing weights today but damn, it felt good. Really good.
No, it’s more like really, really, I feel like…I feel….I sort of feel like…..
I forgot how much I actually like the treadmill sometimes. I also forgot how sometimes just a change of scenery can make a huge difference. I also forgot that my day started out sort of crappy because I totally turned it around. I seriously enjoyed those last few miles.
