Birds of a feather flock, wait don’t tell the dogs….

It’s still raining here.  Mind you, I’m not complaining because just last month it was me who was saying that we desperately needed rain, it’s just that it’s sort of miserable when it rains all day and we don’t really get a break from it for several days.  I mean, I need a little break.

girl in rainNope?  Okay then.  We’ll move on.

Or not….because this morning MacGyver and I took the dogs for a walk in the rain for the second day in a row.  They hate it too.  Woody also hates rain.  He just sits on top of his cage and looks outside as if he wants to go out but he isn’t going to because dry is soooo much better.

It must be hard to learn to fly in the first place but imagine trying to learn to fly with soaking wet feathers.  Not gonna happen.  This morning we took Woody with us along with the dogs on their walk.  He rode on Boomer’s back.

What?  Like you never seen anything like that before?

The neighbors think we’ve lost our minds.  Obviously they’re new to the neighborhood.  They’ll learn.  At least it’s interesting around here.

How’s your weather this week?

I can’t stand the rain…..

Good morning.

I’m sitting here all by myself in the living room listening to the rain fall all around me and checking the weather report every 2 minutes.  Despite a brief respite yesterday, late in the afternoon into early evening, it’s been raining for what seems like forever.  No one wants to go out, not even the dogs.

Fortunately I have a treadmill so I can get some morning exercise and get myself moving but if I don’t exactly love the treadmill, kids hate it.  Did I mention that my niece and nephew are here?  Well, they’ve been down south in Englewood for a few weeks and we’ve been so busy that we haven’t had time to head down so my sister-in-law was sweet enough to drive up here so we could all hang, out and then, rain.

forecast

Yeah, that doesn’t look so good….

When it rains for days and you have kids in the house, particularly kids on summer break as well as summer vacation, you have to get creative.  MacGyver took my nephew out to the garage and they rummaged around until they found some parts interesting enough to construct a robot.

Robots

Number five alive! Name the movie.

My sister-in-law and I took my niece shopping but even shopping gets boring after a while, (or you run out of money) and since we had already made a bazillion pieces of jewelry, we had to really put on our thinking caps.

One of the things you can do when it’s raining outside is to turn your coffee table into a coffin table.

Of course after a few days of rain everyone eventually runs out of ideas and patience but, like I said, last night we had a little break and somehow we managed to walk the dogs, take a little walk over to the peacock farm, and then circle around the park for a quick one mile walk.  My nephew and I also managed to capture a few pokemon and restock our balls.  Poke balls people, Poke balls!

Trust me though, even the peacocks are going stir crazy.

Do you come here often?

I woke up this morning hoping I could avoid the treadmill but then I heard the rain move in and so  I checked the hour by hour forecast.

hour by hour

It’s going to be a very, very long day.

What do you do to entertain your kids when it’s raining?  I need ideas.
Do you go to the treadmill when it’s raining outside?

Running, Rain and a little rambling.

Labor Day was a wash, sort of.  What I mean is, it rained for most of the damn day.

raining

This was my morning view

I had planned on running in neighborhood for 5 or 6 miles before we made the trip south but the rain got heavier and heavier as the morning progressed.  By 7am I did the only thing I could do and I jumped on the treadmill.

run on the treadmill

It was better than running in puddles and I always like to avoid the possibility of getting struck by lightning if I can help it.  Don’t you?

Anyway, the rain started to clear up around 11am so we packed up the car and got ready for the trip south.  MacGyver and my brother in law drove MacGyver’s truck and my sister and I followed in my car.  Hank drove.

Low gas prices

Jesus, would you look how far down gas prices have come! I haven’t seen prices that low since i was a mere pup.

Our first stop was the Nokomis house to drop off and pick up some things.  It wasn’t raining at this time but it was a bit overcast.  Unfortunately, by the time we got to Englewood, rain.

My sister and I decided that while the guys worked on the boat we would hit up the grocery store.  While we were inside it started pouring and my umbrella is about the size of a paper plate so I ran ahead and fetched the car and then we loaded it.  It was only after that I realized the Publix bag boys actually walk you to your car with an umbrella and load your groceries for you!  It sure would have been nice if I would have noticed first…

rain

Fortunately a little rain never hurt anybody.

When we got back to the house the guys were napping so my sis and I snuck out to do a bit of fishing.   We didn’t have much luck unless you count the gnarly catfish I caught and we don’t.

Around 6 my sister and I made a trip back to the other house to pick up some things we’d  MacGyver had forgotten, like the tackle box!  Of course 10 minutes after we got there the guys called to tell us all the bait we bought earlier in the day was dead and we needed more.  And conveniently, it was while we were in the bait shop that they texted us pics of the fish they were catching, heathens!

The rain let up around 7:30pm for a few hours and we had an opportunity to fish a little.

fishing family

My sister is serious about her fishing! You might even say it runs in the family.

Unfortunately both of us had been fighting off headaches all day and my sister ended up with a migraine so we decided to make it an early night.  The guys decided to go fishing around 10PM and about 5 minutes after they pulled out, the skies opened up and a monsoon ensued.  Some days fishing just isn’t in the cards.  It’s a good thing we’re going out again tomorrow.

So, what did you do for Labor day?
Did it rain where you are?
