Tuesday, running, heat, otters, projects and James.

It’s June 4th already and I left the house to go for a walk this morning and it was 81 degrees…AT 6:45AM!  Here is an accurate representation of what it’s like to run in Florida in the summer.

Im on fire

Yes, it’s that bad.  I have been running a little though.  I get 5 miles in every day now.  Sometimes I run half of it, sometimes more but I am running and it makes me happy.  I’m also walking a lot and as long as I’m moving without pain, I’ll take it.

And here’s a shocker, I’m still weight training!  I got in 6 days of weight training last week and even worked my core on 3 days.

who am i evenI know right?

Does anyone else watch Jeopardy?  It’s one of my faves.  I’ve literally been watching it for years.  The kid and I used to watch it together when he was itty bitty and I still watch it to this day.

I was really enjoying the last month or so watching James Holzhauer  annihilate every opponent that faced him.  However, I felt like he wasn’t really trying anymore after teachers week and then came last night.  Thanks to leaked footage and the stupid internet I already knew what was coming down, but did anyone else feel like he threw that game?  I’m telling you, I’m convinced he did.  It’s almost like he didn’t want to break the other guys record or maybe, just maybe, he made some bets in Vegas about how long his run would be, like under an assumed name or something and he HAD to lose.  There’s something more to the story.  I just know it.  Dammit James, I was rooting for you!

Last week I got the pneumovax vaccine.  It didn’t hurt but my upper arm was sore for a few days.  Now we just have to wait until mid June and then I go have my antibodies tested again and if they’re still low then we have a problem.  If they are higher than they were before the vaccine, then I do not have a primary immunodeficiency.  It sure does take a long time to find out about the immunoglobulins and why they’re low.   I mean, I’m glad they rule everything out but jeez, they started testing me in October of last year.

I’m not sure if I mentioned it but we’ve got an otter in our pond.  And I’m in love with him.  He’s so stinkin cute.  He plays in the tall grasses and scratches his belly like a dog and he comes up into the yard and chases the ducks around.  MacGyver tried to get a few pictures of him but they weren’t very clear.  I’ll keep trying because you have to meet him.

In the meantime,he looks a little like this:

Not much else going on around here except I was going a little crazy without any projects so I spent a little time this weekend taking this:

And turning it into this:

What do you think?

Tomorrow is Global Running Day, got anything planned?  I think I’m going to run 3 fire filled miles.  That’ll be my max in this weather.

Projects and pets

Taking some time off from running has left me with a little extra time in the mornings and quite frankly, if I don’t busy myself with little projects, it’s an ugly day.

Fortunately there is no shortage of projects around here but I was getting rather tired of organizing screws so I was glad when I remembered I had that old dry sink to do something with. This picture is what it looked like after I had already sanded the top because for the life of me, I can’t remember how to take actual before pictures.

It was made out of knotty pine and the people that I bought it from had put in a little shelf and added some 70’s paper as a liner. I left the shelf liner because it was in really good shape but we took out the shelf itself because it was poorly made and honestly, it looked hideous.

Call me crazy but it only took a bit of cleaning and the liner really doesn’t look that bad…

I knew that I wanted to use this beside my sofa in the media room as a cabinet to store all of our popcorn and accessories. I’m gonna put the popcorn machine on top. But, that will be temporary.

Eventually it will be used as a coffee bar in my formal dining room which is what the room will be when we get rid of the media room. We don’t need it anyway, we have a living room and we mostly live in there. I don’t think we’ve actually watched a movie in the media room in at least 3 years but we eat every damn day so, instead of eating in the kitchen I think we need a dining room. Sorry, got off topic. That’s what I’ve been rehearsing since MacGyver doesn’t know the plan yet.

But for now, back to the dry sink. MacGyver insists it wasn’t that old but I think it’s fairly old. Not from the mid 1800’s old but at least the 30’s or 40’s. I think the last people who owned it changed out some of the hardware and added those hideous knobs but I could tell as I took it apart that the actual wood was quite old.

When I tried to find something similar online the closest I got was this one from Pennsylvania.

Very close, don’t you think?

What really matters to me though is what it looks like now and since my future dining room will have hints of red, I painted the bottom part and I also changed out the knobs. Here is the after:

What do you think? Do you like it?

I’ve been pinning things like crazy to go in the room once I change it and because I get sidetracked quite easily I’ve also been saving images for a Tennessee house. We don’t have one yet and quite honestly we just started entertaining the idea but of course, I’m already designing it.

I found the cutest thing to do instead of using curtain rods. I’m in love with this idea:

Can’t you just see that in a little farmhouse? It’s the cutest thing ever, right?

I have two more quick things to show you before I get to work. First, I need to show this picture of Charles. His feathers are coming in for spring and he’s getting all kinds of action from the lady peacocks.

Isn’t he gorgeous?

And this last picture is the boys. It was freezing this morning. Okay, actually it was around 45 degrees but that’s really cold for here. Anywho, Hank couldn’t find the sofa blanket so he used the next best thing.

That’s it for me. I need to get some work done.

Who does the home improvements and redecorating in your house? You or your husband? Or both?

I’m back! What? You didn’t know I was gone?

I’m still alive, you know, in case you were wondering.  I ain’t gonna lie it was really hard to leave this view.

View of beachI’m sure you understand.  Anyway we are home and have been for several days but I’ve had some things going on and haven’t been able to update until now, but here I am so let’s catch up.

First, we were in Nokomis until late Thursday night.  We spent a lot of time with MacGyvers sister and her husband, and the parents and we had a lovely time.  I got some great pictures of the beach.

Nokomis beach at Casey Key

Casey Key is amazing!

And I got some great pictures of some seagulls.

They really are cute so long as they don’t fly over you….

And who can forget about the fish?  Not that we caught any that were substantial which is why I am going to show you just one picture and it’s the picture I took from our dock.  You can see the millions of mullet that are in there and also you can see that the water seems milky.

Those are mullet, maybe not millions but close enough.

I’m not sure what’s going on with the water but MacGyver and I are convinced it is the reason we didn’t catch any ginormous fish.  It has absolutely nothing to do with skill, trust!

You may also remember I told you that we were working on some craft projects.  Well, I am prepared to show you my masterpieces.  Yes, plural, because I made two…so far.

The project that we were doing involved several steps.  The first step was to remove all the backing of a picture frame and then use clear caulk and seal the glass to the back of the frame.  Then you draw a picture of what you want the finished piece to look like on top of the frame.  For this project I wanted a seahorse.

I painted this seahorse onto the glass

Once you’ve drawn the picture you then place shells or sea glass or beads or whatever you want over the picture.

seahorse shells

The shells are all laid out.

Then you pour an epoxy resin over the shells and let it set for the next 48-72 hours.  After waiting for the resin to completely dry, you hang your masterpiece.

Voila! A new masterpiece for the bathroom.

And this was the second one that I did, a Mermaid.

We even hid shark’s teeth in the projects.  I need to get a better picture of this one, it was actually really cute.

I’m sure I’ll be making more of these.  It was such a fun thing to do but I gotta be honest though, for now, I’m all crafted out.

On Friday morning MacGyver and I got up and took the dogs down to see the peacocks.

I’m not tooting my own horn but this one kind of had a crush on me.

They were in rare form.  It’s mating season so they haven’t left the farm all that much which is why we had to go see them.

After walking the dogs I headed off to the chiropractor.  While at the chiropractor I found out something about my health that had no relation to why I was at the chiropractor, and it was quite disconcerting.    I’m not ready to talk about it yet and probably won’t be until I see a few more doctors but what I will say is that I chose not to do a long run this weekend and I think the mystery of the migraines may no longer be a mystery.

I swear I’m not doing the vague blogger thing, I just don’t want to speculate on something that I don’t really have all the answers to just yet.

Anyhow, since I didn’t get a long run in MacGyver thought a nice little kayak ride was in order and so that’s what we did on Saturday afternoon and y’all it was lovely!

This is a secret trail in Safety Harbor that not a lot of people know about.

MacGyver on his kayak

This man always knows how to make everything okay.

With all that was going on and despite my health concerns, I did manage to run 32 miles last week.  I also cross trained with kayaking and a little yoga and I did 3 weight routines.  Go Me!  😉

And now you’re all caught up, well except for the canine chronicles….

I’ve just been hanging out waiting for food or treats and the occasional walk.  Anyone?

Hank the tank

I don’t really care so much about food or treats but if you ever leave me alone again, I’ll piss all over your favorite pillow, just sayin.

And now, you’re all caught up.

What did you do this weekend?
