WTF Wednesday, wait, I have a blog?

Happy 2019!

2019MacGyver and I have been spending time with family and friends and we took a little time away from work and ended the year nice and relaxed.  It was pretty awesome.  I had plans to update the blog several times but then I just sort of forgot I had one, so in case you’re wondering, here’s a little update.

Even though I decked out the house in Clearwater with all kinds of Christmas flair, we decided to spend Christmas in Nokomis so we could be close to my in laws, but here’s a look at some of my decorations in the Clearwater house.

Christmas DecorWhen all was said and done we ended up with 4 large trees in Clearwater and several small ones along with a ton of other decorations.  I make no apologies because I do love Christmas and I Christmas hard.

But, as I said, we decided to spend the holiday in Nokomis and therefore, I decorated down there too because, CHRISTMAS.

Nokomis treeThe next picture is of a centerpiece that I made out of old ornaments that I had left over.  I just painted an old flower pot red and then added the bulbs and a little greenery, embellishments and voila!

centerpieceUnfortunately the kid was not able to come home from Columbus this year but we talked a lot on Christmas which is also his birthday and I was reminded once again how grateful I am to Apple for facetime,  Besides some cash, Macgyver and I sent him a folding bike for Christmas and he loved it.  He even rode it to work the day after Christmas and posted on facebook with the hashtag fitlife.  I am one proud mama.

MacGyver and I are doing our best to keep Apple in business as he gifted me an iPhone XR and I gifted him a new iPad.

iPhone XRiPad

After Christmas he decided he could no longer live with his old iPhone and ordered the XR for himself as well.

But let’s face it, the two that really made out like bandits were our fur babies.  Hank and Boomer had shit tons of presents under the tree and Boomer remembers Christmas every year and gets so excited to open them all.  Hank could care less about the opening so Boomer goes hard for the both of them.

boomerHank gets a new bed every year and is equally excited but it’s probably not really evident in this picture.

sleepy hankThe day after Christmas my sister in law and her husband came to town.  While the boys fished, we did a little shopping.

I am hesitant to post the photo because I have a steroid face right now and while I realized the steroids are supposed to be helping me, I hate the way they are changing my body and my face and I can’t wait to get off of them.

We went to some retail stores but we also hit up some of my favorite thrift stores and you won’t believe what I found.  I scored a brand new pair of Victoria Secret running pants and Lululemon running pants.  They still had the tags on them and I only paid five bucks for each pair.

No wayYes way.  It was like Christmas all over.

I haven’t worn them yet because it warmed up a lot over the last week and I’ve been running in shorts but I have been running on average 6 days a week and guess what?  I hit double digits again.  I ran 10 miles the last two Saturdays.  I haven’t had too many troubles with breathing but I have noticed that as I taper down from the steroids some of my old pains are creeping back.  Mainly neck and shins and sometimes if I hit just the right way I can feel a little twinge in my hip.  So, for now, I’m staying at around 40 miles a week and I feel okay with that.

running shoesBut I still lace up every day and I still wear my holy sock.  I just noticed recently that almost every pair of my favorite socks has a hole in the right foot at the right toe.  And I sort of like it.

We got back to Clearwater late Friday and spent the weekend working around the house.  I went to Wal-Mart on Sunday night and almost got shot.

I was looking for something I couldn’t find and talking on the phone with my mom and she suggested I try the cleaning aisle so I hung up with her and headed that way passing by the electronics section.  At the cell phone counter I heard two men yelling at each other and one kept saying, ‘don’t make me pull this out’ and I guess my mind lives in the gutter because I thought he meant something entirely different.  Until he raised his shirt and I saw a metal object that looked very much like a gun.  And I’m sure it probably was as he yelled, ‘y’all better get down, I’m about to pop this dude.’

oh my godIt has come to my attention that when someone is threatening to shoot someone and I’m standing a mere 20 feet away, I’m not the quietest person.  If I can’t figure out how to back away without falling over a stack of storage bins and landing on my ass, I’ll probably be the first one shot, you know, if it ever happens again.

One of the men,  and not the one with the gun, ran towards the front of the store and I headed in the opposite direction toward the garden center.  I have no idea what happened after that because as soon as I saw police in the parking lot I ran to my car and went home.  It was crazy and I’m just glad that no shots were actually fired.  That I know of anyway.

On New Years Eve MacGyver and I actually stayed up til 12:10AM and rang in the new year.  Mostly because our neighbors were shooting off fireworks and we couldn’t sleep but we made it past midnight and I like to take a win where ever I can these days.

As for New Year’s Day, well…

AlexaShe didn’t and so I did.  And it only took 11 hours.

And just like that, it’s 2019.  I hope the New Year is a happy and healthy one for each and every one of you.  And if I stay out of Walmart, I probably have a good chance of having a really good year myself.

WTF?  It’s Wednesday.

What did you do for the holidays?

Ringing in the New Year with Fire and Mud!

And we’re back! Happy 2015!

In case you didn’t know, we’ve been in Holopaw, Florida at our cabin in Suburban Estates. We’ve been going to Suburban Estates for quite some time and bought property there a few years ago and built a little cabin. It’s very, very remote.

That’s our cabin off in the background. This is the view of it from one of the many ATV trails.

We spent last New Years at the cabin so we decided to do it again this year and I think it may just become a tradition. We were there for quite a few days so I think I’ll do this recap in a few posts.

We got ready to leave our house on New Years Eve early in the morning. Hank was determined NOT to be left behind…

Nobody leaves without the Dachshund…NOBODY!

We packed up and left our house just after noon. Since it’s about a three and a half hour drive I packed the main essential for a long road trip.

Sudoku

SUDOKU!

I’m sure I’ve mentioned it before but MacGyver calls it Sadookie. Hilarious! Anyway with Sudoku puzzles o plenty, the time flew by and before I knew it, we were in the parking lot.

The thing about Suburban Estates is that once you get to the parking lot it can still take quite a while to get to your campsite. It all depends on several factors, not limited to but including mud, flooding, impromptu redneck gatherings, vehicles stuck in mud, wrecked or broken down vehicles, sugar sand, and soupy roads.

A perfect example of an impromptu redneck party.

Once we arrived at the cabin our dogs were beyond excited. Hank was excited because his girlfriend Rosie was already there. Boomer was excited because there’s a pond and it was full. Hello swimming!

He gets a little excited when he see’s Rosie…

Lab wants to swim

When are we going swimming? I came to swim!

I spent the next hour or so cleaning and organizing the cabin. It’s amazing how much dirt can accumulate when you haven’t been there in 4 months. Well, there’s that and the fact that the last time MacGyver was here, they had to leave in a hurry due to a little emergency situation, so the ATV’s were inside the cabin.

I think I cleaned it up pretty well considering it’s a cabin in the middle of nowhere, with no running water, etc., etc.

This is the lounge area. Yes, that is an HDTV because… GENERATOR! Creature Comforts people, I need them!

The other side of the cabin. What did you expect? I did mention it was small, right?

Before long it was time to get ready to go to the Mud Hole for a New Years Eve party. MacGyver and our friend Frank took along the hard stuff but I wanted wine. I drank 2 1/2 cups of wine out of my mossy oak travel mug from Bass Pro shops. (That sounds so much better than I drank a full bottle of wine doesn’t it?) Those travel mugs are awesome.

Hank and Boomer were not allowed to go to the fireworks at the mud hole specifically because, the hate fireworks. Rosie rode over on the back of Frank’s ATV and I got the best picture of her.

Rosie the pit

RoboRosie with laser eyes! She’s coming for you!

At the mud hole, there were many a bonfire and illegal fireworks. I’m not condoning, but hey, it is what it is. Everyone was having a good time. There was music and mud trucks and ATV’s, and Christmas Lights, because in Suburban Estates, mud trucks sport the Christmas lights and trees are for bonfires!

This is actually a mud truck with Christmas Lights, very festive and….muddy.

Fire's for everyone!

Fire for everyone!

mudders paradise

Fires, Fireworks, Mud, it’s paradise.

We stayed at the mud hole til around 1:00AM and then headed back where we all passed out pretty quickly.

We woke up on New Year’s Day ready to hit the trails.

I put Hank on the back of my ATV, (Boomer doesn’t ride, he prefers to swim), and we headed out….

And that’s where I’ll end it today.

What did you do for New Year’s Eve? What did you do on New Year’s Day?

Did you drink or stay sober?
