15 miles before heading to the cabin where my running trail is no more…

So I thought I would check in and let you know that I’m still here.  It’s just that the kid is in town and we’ve been having so much fun I almost forgot about my little blog.  And then just when I decided to sit down and write a little post, bam, my internet took a crap again.  Thank you WOW cable and internet, you never cease to amaze me with the amount of mistakes you make and the crappy service you continue to almost provide.

sarcastic applause

Anywho, since we’ve got service for the time being, let me start by telling you about my awesome Saturday long run.

fifteen mile long run

Yep, I got my fifteen mile run done, albeit slow, it was still 15 miles and I did not get a migraine and I felt great afterwards.

The kid and his friend arrived around 1:15 in the afternoon and we hung out around the house because he was tired from driving for so many hours.  MacGyver and I went to get pizza and another of the kids friends came over so they all chilled on the lanai for a while.  It was a pretty low key evening because we had to get up early the next morning.

On Sunday at 5AM I woke everyone up and we hit the road.

four wheelin

We headed out to our cabin in Holopaw.  We didn’t bring our mud jeep this time because we were only going to be there for a few days and the guys weren’t interested in muddin all that much.  They had other plans.

guys shooting

In case I didn’t mention it, we have our own shooting range on our property.  MacGyver brought out a mini arsenal and they all wanted to shoot every single thing.

They set up tons of targets and the thing that launches the clay pigeons.  The kid is the master at skeet shooting.  For real.  He doesn’t miss.  Ever.  He loves it.  Unfortunately he also loved MacGyver’s Benelli and has informed me that’s what he would like for Christmas.  If anyone knows where I can get a Benelli super black eagle III on sale let me know.

While the guys were busy shooting, the dogs were busy napping.

sleeping dogs lie sleepy dog

I wish I could sleep through all that noise.  Silly dogs.

Instead, I was inside the cabin setting up dog town with new sheets.  For those of you who don’t know, our camp is actually called ‘Dog Town’.

dog sheets

Can you believe I found those dog sheets on clearance at Walmart after Christmas for only 7 bucks!  Score.  And bonus, they’re flannel.  Perfect for the cabin.  I also got a queen set for 11 bucks for our bed.

We did a bit of riding around while we were out there and we even did some Urban Exploration through some abandoned camps and I’ll post those photos tomorrow.  It was so much fun.  I could have done that for days.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to run on Monday morning because my running trail is grown over and since someone bought the lots around us, we have to reconfigure it anyways.

We got home around 9:30 last night and the guys must have been exhausted because I got up and ran 7 miles, walked the dogs and showered and they were all still sleeping.  Too bad because they missed this beautiful sky.

That’s it for me. I better get some work done while the internet is functioning.  Check back tomorrow, I promise you will love the pictures from our urban exploring adventures.

How was you’re weekend?

27 miles, a birthday, a boat ride and why I’m avoiding stores and people.

Hello from Nokomis, Florida.  We’ve been here since Thursday night for a long weekend to celebrate MacGyver’s birthday, which was yesterday.  He’s still out fishing today so it looks like we’ll be headed home tonite.  I don’t mind at all because I’ve spent a ton of my time here,

The legacy Trailand here,

Legacy Trail

and here,

Legacy Trail

Seriously, does it get any better than that?  I mean how lucky am I?  Including today I ran 27 miles on that trail including this long run that I did on Saturday.

Long Run

Long Run Done, Boom!

MacGyver and I worked on our house a bit too.  He’s been doing some work around the dock and in the canal and I’ve been trimming up all of the plants in the back.  It’s starting to look good and once we get it to a point where we love it, I’ll take some pictures.

For MacGyver’s birthday his parents took us for a late lunch/early dinner at this place.

Saltwater Cafe

If you’re ever in the Nokomis, Florida area, I highly recommend it.  It’s very, very good.

After we ate we all jumped in the john boat and took a ride down our canal.  It was such a treat to be out on the water after so many cold days.  Apparently everyone had the same idea because there were a lot of people out.  Here are some pics from our day.

Of course I had to take a few pictures of the pelicans.

One last pic because it’s probably winter where you are and you really need to see how beautiful it is here.

Makes you want to take a vacation doesn’t it?

We’ll be heading home later this afternoon.  I really need to go to the grocery store but I like to wait and go to the 24 hour Walmart around 1am because I’m terrified somebody’s gonna be out with the flu and I’m avoiding it as much as possible.  Every time my mom calls she tells me somebody died from it and MacGyver’s mom tells us the same thing.

Yesterday we made a quick stop at Winn Dixie and the guy collecting carts told us how serious the flu is this year and that tons of people are dying and and he told us how everybody should wear masks and how he thinks it’s a virus created by the government and I just kept thinking, why are there so many carts out here?  I was practically running away from him and he just kept spouting off facts that may or may not have been accurate. It didn’t make me any more fearful because that’s probably not possible anyway

I’m just gonna stay inside with my dogs.  This is a typical day for Hank and me.

Ain’t no lap like momma’s lap.

Just in case you don’t think he’s totally comfortable, here’s a better view,

How was your weekend?

Did you run?  How many miles and where?

Older runners, you can do it! There are no limits.

Over the weekend tragedy almost struck twice.  On Saturday after my long run I decided to trim up the ferns in the back of the Nokomis house.  All was going well until I realized my Motiv ring was once again, missing.

Oh my God

I was sure it wasn’t going to fall off.  I had checked several times and it seemed tight enough on my finger and yet here it was missing.  I looked all through the ferns and y’all have no idea how many ferns are in the back of this house.  TONS.  There was no way I was going to find it in there so I thought maybe it might be in the trash can where I had been throwing all of the cut branches.  It was a long shot and the huge can was full but I had no choice other than to dig through it all.

found it

I FOUND IT!

Laying somewhat close to the top of the can amidst all the fern leaves, boom, there it was.  I put that baby back on my finger and vowed never to lose it again.

On Sunday we went over to Englewood to visit with the family.  We weren’t sure how long we would be over there so we took the dogs with us.  On the way over MacGyver stopped at TJMaxx so I could run in quickly and look for something I I’ve been looking for but they didn’t have it.  Then I saw that the thrift store in the same plaza was going out of business and having a big sale so I asked MacGyver to sit in the car with the dogs just a bit longer so I could go check it out.

By the time we got to Englewood Hank was itching to get out of the car and he nearly pulled my arm off as I held onto the leash.  We finally got the dogs settled and as we were talking with my in laws, I reached down to twist my ring around as I often do, and that’s when I realized, IT WAS GONE!

son of a bitch

MacGyver instantly recognized the look on my face and asked what was wrong.  When I told him he said he couldn’t believe that I lost it again.  This time, I had absolutely no idea where it would be and MacGyver thought that maybe I had lost it in one of the stores that I had been in.

I decided to go out and check the car in case it had fell out in there and MacGyver and his dad followed me outside.  As I went to open the door, I looked down on the ground and low and behold, a shiny Motiv ring was laying in the grass.

Holy shit

That’s what I said!

Can you believe that?  I lost that damn ring twice and each time I found it.  MacGyver said if I lose it again and I’m lucky enough to find it, he’s going to screw it to my finger!  And I have no doubt that he’d try.

Now, let’s talk running because this weekend, I rocked my running shoes my friends.  On Saturday I woke up feeling sad because I haven’t raced in a while and it’s on my list of things to do this year, but since I haven’t registered for anything yet I decided to just go ahead and run a half marathon on my own.

half marathon

Boom! Nailed it!

It was slow and steady but my goal was to keep the pace consistent and I checked my splits after and it was super consistent, like within a few seconds each mile.

On Sunday, I woke up feeling great but since I had run two back to back long runs last week, I didn’t want to do that again.  Instead I wanted to run a progression run of 8 miles.

progression run

Progression run = PROGRESS

I didn’t look at my splits until I was finished.  I just tried to run based on how I felt and again, nailed it. As far as running goes, this was definitely my week.  I’m not sure why I’m so motivated lately but a lot of inspiring stories have come across my facebook feed and across other accounts and they have inspired me.

Did you see the story about Molly Friel?  Shes the California woman who recently qualified for the Olympic trials by running a 2:43:57 in the California International Marathon.

Molly FrielHere’s the thing, Molly Friel is 50 years old.  FIFTY!  So, don’t let anyone tell you that you’re too old, ever.  You can do anything you set your mind to.

If you need additional proof, look no further than Andrea Linck.

Andrea LinckWhat Andrea did is just as amazing.  She sat out to run a marathon, and not just any marathon but her very first marathon.  And then she won.  No, really, she won!  Her first marathon.  Go girl, go!

So you see, anything is possible.  You just have to get out there and run.

Switching gears because that’s how I do, do any of you live in Hawaii?  What the hell is going on with that notification system and how many people had heart attacks before realizing it was a mistake?  Damn Hawaii, get it straight!

What did you do this weekend?

Have you ever lost something multiple times and couldn’t believe you found it?  What was it?
