123, Happy Birfday to me!

In case you’re wondering how I’m feeling today, it’s sort of like this,

I’m pretty sure my nephew feels the same way because it’s his birthday too.  Happy birthday Vinny!  🙂

MacGyver is taking me to do a little shopping.  He’s already given me a few gifts which I’ll share with you later but he’s taking me to pick out some more because, well let’s face it, I deserve more.

my birthday

This year I broke down and bought myself a practical gift.  I always have a hard time finding the right buttons on the remote control and since the TV in our bedroom at the Nokomis house doesn’t have a remote, I bought myself a Universal one.

I thought it said I’m Hip but the Kid said it really said I need a hip.

If you have any doubt at how large that remote control is, let me put it into context for you.  It is laying upon my oversized King bed.

Sort of looks like an iPad doesn’t it?  Except it’s a lot bigger.

You see, that’s what happens when you get old.

i'm old

Yeah, all that good stuff happens too.

But while I still feel young, I intend to act like it.

Happy Birthday

Aren’t birthdays just the best?

When is your birthday, what’s your sign and do you prefer cake, cookie, or cupcakes?

It’s Good Friday!

Happy Good Friday or if you don’t recognize Good Friday, it’s good today is Friday so be happy!

Good Friday

This week is coming to an end but this weekend is going to be full of festivities and family time.  My heart couldn’t be happier but before we get to it I wanted to tell you about some of my favorite things from the week.

The kid came down to Nokomis with us for his days off which are Thursday and Friday.  Yesterday he and I spent the morning visiting some of the local thrift shops and we had a ball.

The bargains here are insane!

After all the bargain hunting we wanted to decompress a bit so while MacGyver was helping to trim a tree for a neighbor the Kid and I took out the kayaks.

Look at that view…

We tried to find a certain canal that leads up to a long creek that the kid discovered for the first time a few years ago.  Unfortunately, we went the wrong way for a while and by the time we figured out the right way it looked like a storm was rolling in so we headed back.  We didn’t care that we didn’t find the canal because we had a great time.

Good Friday

That’s the kid way back there soaking up every minute of it.

In case I haven’t mentioned it like 300 times, my niece and nephew are in town and I know of two dogs who are over the moon with all the attention that they’ve been getting.

This picture warms my heart.

True love, unconditionally.

Another favorite from the week was running on this beautiful trail with my sister in law.  As far as sister in laws go, I struck gold with both of mine.  But they’re not just great sister in laws, I truly love the both of them as if they were my own sisters, they are wonderful, wonderful people and if you are lucky enough to know either one of them your world is much brighter, I promise you.

IMG_4676Lastly, I wanted to say how proud I am of this girl.  Tina is running in the World Championships for Great Britain and Northern Ireland this weekend.  I know how hard she has worked for this and I couldn’t be more excited for her.  If you have a moment, check out her blog.  She is full of helpful information and her love of running exudes from everything that she does.

Have a Happy Easter!

Tell me about one of your favorites from the week.

Monday Morning

Welcome to Monday!

We are still down in Venice.  I have a doctors appointment down here today so MacGyver and I decided to stay an extra day and that way he can attend some additional angler management therapy.

Gone Fishin! Angler Management

The dog’s obviously enjoy it too.  They certainly like it more than fireworks.  In the past we’ve watched the fireworks in the Venice Inlet from our boat but it get’s a little crazier every year.  This was what the inlet looked like on Saturday at 11am.

So we decided rather than dealing with the potential drunk idiots operating their floating vessels we would go watch the fireworks from the pool in Englewood.

And on the way over many people were already shooting them off which didn’t exactly appeal to Hank.

firework dog

What the hell is that? A firework? I don’t like this firework!

Firework? Damn, I thought you said hot dogs.

Firework? WHAT?  I thought you said hot dogs.

Once we got to the pool both dogs were fine and we were able to see all of the fireworks from a safe and much quieter distance.

lab kisses

Boomer was quite happy.  He gave me many kisses.

I celebrated the 4th with 4 glasses of wine which is exactly 3 more glasses than I normally would drink.

Needless to say, I did not run on Sunday.  Instead we went boating and fishing.

dachshund swimming

He looks like he is swimming but he’s actually hunting bait fish.

These dogs grew up on the water and they love to fish.  On another note, what do you think of my glorious windblown hair.

We got back to the house around 2pm and we all took super long naps.  Later in the day I was able to catch up on some local news and such, and relax.

One of the articles I read was one I wanted to share with you. Y’all know I believe that slower runs are incredibly beneficial if you want to get faster and build endurance.  This article talks about why slower cardio is good for your body.

You can read the article here.

Also from this weekend here’s another example of why you shouldn’t celebrate a win before you actually win.

no tape

Nope, I don’t believe you are number 1…

Check it out here.

Later on Sunday night MacGyver and I tried to watch a few movies.  Unfortunately Netflix was pixellated and no matter what we did we couldn’t fix it.  I sure wish we would have realized it before we spent 4 hours watching the same damn movie.

And in appliance news, my coffee pot in the Venice house goes rogue on me on the reg.  It randomly changes the time and when I pre-set it to go off in the morning, it goes off much earlier than I set it for.  This would be the reason I got up at 4:45am this morning…..I should get a new one but I live for the excitement.

Time to go for a run.

Now, tell me what you did this weekend.
