It’s hot and humid, what’s for dinner?

On Monday I didn’t really feel like running in the heat and humidity so I walked five miles but it seemed like it took forever and I really didn’t care much for that.  That’s why this morning I decided to go ahead and run.  I ain’t gonna lie it sucked just as bad as walking but at least I finished quicker, although not by much.

In case you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to run in Florida in the summer, it looks a lot like this.

Yes it is….

It might be time to warm up the treadmill for the summer and my high powered fan.  That sounds like a good plan.

Yesterday I pulled what I thought was frozen chicken out of the freezer to make for dinner but it turned out to be pork.  And it wasn’t chops either, it was some other kind of pork that I’m not really all too familiar with, like loins or something.  I tried to get MacGyver to cook it because I had no idea what to do with it but instead MacGvyer suggested we go to Smokey Bones.  Who was I to argue?

going to dinner

I’m ready!

I’m pretty sure that was the quickest I’ve ever gotten ready for anything.

We also called the kid and asked him to come along because MacGyver had a coupon.  The only problem was we had to wait until 9PM because the guys wanted all you can eat wings!  NINE. P.M.!  Oh, the sacrifices I make….

I passed the time by taking selfies in the car but the lighting was bad.

We got to the restaurant a few minutes before nine so I ordered some wine.  I’m not a big drinker so one glass is about all it takes to get me a little buzzed.  I’m a cheap date.   That’s probably why MacGyver loves me so much.

The guys obviously over estimated their all you can eat skills because they hardly put back 16 wings each before they threw in the towel. Wing wussies!   I remained true to my healthy eating and ordered a dinner salad. And I ate every last bit of it.  (Except for the croutons which I neatly stacked on the side of the plate.)

After dinner I was exhausted.  Who stays up past 10PM on a work night?

It’s way past my bedtime.

This morning there is still the matter of the mystery pork in the fridge.  Looks like I might have to google some recipes, (after I google pork cuts and determine what exactly it is.)

Do you have a good recipe for pork?  (If you do, please share.)
What’s your favorite thing to make for dinner?
(For me, it’s reservations.)

I’m a bit of an addict.

Yesterday my fitbit flashed a message to let me know it needed to be charged. Thank the Lord I was sitting down working when it almost went dead because y’all know the overwhelming sense of dread you feel if your fitbit goes dead and you don’t get an accurate step count. Oh, the horror!

That’s just not possible, sir.

Anywho, I charged the old girl up while I was working and the second I got up, I put her back on. She did the usual thing she does after I charge her, she flashed me a quick message. I barely caught it but when I read it….

fitbit message

Bitch called me a step geek!

WHAT? As opposed to a regular geek? Is this a bad thing? Ms. Fitbit thing continues to surprise and amuse me.

Anyway, I’ll be the first to admit I have gotten a little obsessed with getting all my steps in lately. I may have mentioned that I increased my step goal to 15,000. What I haven’t really mentioned is why.

It’s the 5-10 pounds that came on board last year and that I haven’t been able to get rid of no matter what I do.

eat all the things

This is me….ALL the time!

I could work out til I’m blue in the face. I could run all the miles, lift all the weights, swim all the laps, and bike all the bikes? The reality is, if I keep eating ALL the food, those 5-10 pounds that are hanging on for dear life are going to be permanent.

Yesterday I was reading about a new study that determined people who perform moderate exercise daily burn an average 200 calories more per day than sedentary people. But the study also determined that people who exercise vigorously, even more than the moderate exerciser, don’t really burn many more calories because the body adapts to higher levels of activity!

So it all boils down to diet. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t eat a totally unhealthy diet. In fact, some people might think I eat really healthy and for the most part I do but I also engage in quite a few sweets and treats and I’m really bad at counting calories because God bless it, I’m always hungry! Always.  Sometimes I wish it was a tape worm so I’d really have an excuse but it’s just me, glutton girl.

I’m addicted to the good stuff and by good stuff I mean chocolate, sugar and salt!

Here’s the challenge. I’m addicted to Wendy’s Vanilla Frosty’s which I put ‘tons’ of reeses mini peanut butter cups in and I’m addicted to biscoff spread which I melt and dip my apples in….daily! I also tend to pig out on baked lays bbq chips throughout the week.  I need to break my addiction to these 3 things.

food, food, more food

Now seeing as how, I’m not all that creative when it comes to food and cooking, do you have any suggestions?

What can I substitute my frostys, biscoff and chips for that still tastes good and isn’t loaded with calories or my beloved sugar? Suggestions please…..

Lots of running and fishing, it’s the weekend recap.

This weekend, we were down in Venice. I believe I promised a weekend update as well as some pics, so here they are.

On Friday, we drove down to Venice. We had to go all the way to our house, pick up the boat and then drive it back to Sarasota for some work. We’re having a tower built for it. I’m not sure exactly why but I’m trusting that MacGyver has a good reason. After that was done we stopped in at Trader Joes for some essentials.

And then we went to get a healthy lunch…or not.

And I did a little shopping while MacGyver was in the Sporting Goods Store. If you have a Bealls Outlet near you, by all means run there! It’s usually hit or miss but when it’s a hit, it’s a hit. This was my haul which cost less than $25.

After shopping we headed toward Venice and stopped in at a local car show. MacGyver has a 1967 Pontiac Lemans Convertible. He loves it. It is on the ‘must
save first in case of fire list’. I’m pretty sure I’m not even on that list. Anyway, he we had a good time looking at all the cars.

And I had a good time with this one, the Little Deuce Poop.

I started itching like crazy on Friday afternoon and MacGyver and I surmised that it was probably poison ivy or poison oak due to all of my recent yard work. We went to get some calamine lotion but it didn’t help that much. Because it was itching most of the night, I wasn’t sure if I would run on Saturday.

Saturday morning came and then I woke up with a bit of a cold as well as the itching but I decided to run anyway at the last-minute. I had an eighteen miler on my plate, but I only ran 15 and I took my phone and snapped lots of pics. This is the Venetian Waterway Trail in Venice.

Caspersen Beach. It’s really a beautiful trail and the weather was fairly nice and not too humid, considering that it’s Florida and all.

After running, MacGyver and I went fishing and had a pretty good day of it.

Fishing in Venice

With all that fish, you can imagine what was for dinner, blackened redfish and pan seared snapper with lemon butter sauce and capers.

I know, I can’t believe this is my life either….

On Sunday, I woke up with that stupid cold again but I decided to hit up the Legacy Trail just to try to run out the congestion while MacGyver went fishing again….5 miles later, I wanted to crawl in bed and sleep. Sometimes your body just wants rest.

MacGyver came home from his day of fishing with this ah mazing snook! 28 inches long!

28" Snook

And yes, in case you’re wondering, we eat a ton of fish.

It’s a rainy Monday here today which is just as well because I am still resting and trying to feel better. The itching has subsided but this cold is a butt kicker.

We’ll see how I feel tomorrow.

What did you do this weekend? Did you race or do a long run?
