It’s a wrap, the weekends over!

Over the weekend our weather turned cooler and it was beautiful.  So beautiful that even though I had the flu all week, I ran.  I didn’t go crazy or anything but I did run 7.5 miles on Saturday and 8.5 miles on Sunday which brought me to a total of 24 for the week.  Not bad for 3 days of running even though I probably should have rested a bit more.

running is not restingIt caught up with me this morning because I went out bright an early but after only a few minutes of running I felt sick to my stomach.  I ended up walking for three miles instead and I’ll play it by ear tomorrow.

The good news is, Hank is getting better by the minute and already itching to get out and run with me.  And with the recent weather change we had to put on his warmer clothes, which means, he got to wear this:

C’mon Mom, let’s go running!

I cannot get enough of that track suit.  Seriously.

Hank in adidogSo damn cute.

Other than the weather change and Hank feeling better not much was going on this weekend over here.  We stayed home for most of the weekend and just vegged out.  My mom was a little worried about me so she called and texted often to check on me.

My mom is hilarious.  I save her texts sometimes just so I can go back and read them when I need a little giggle.  Here, I’ll show you.

She texted me late last week to ask if I was feeling better and if I was getting back to work.  I responded and then her reply just cracked me up.

moms textHAHAHA, yep, hazmat for a kitchen fire sounds about right.

Over the weekend I sent her a picture of Hank in his track suit and told her that I also bought one for her dog.  This was the conversation that followed.

mom text 2See what I mean now?  Random hilarious stuff.  I just love my mom.

One more quick thing to show you.  MacGyver brought me some old windows to play around with and I made this over the weekend.

What did you do this weekend?

Still in Coney Island

This morning I had to take Hank to the vet for a checkup and bandage change.  They said that the wound is healing nicely and there is no reason to keep applying the spider bite ointment or the manuka honey.  They also removed some of his stitches but since he still has an open wound, he’s still hangin out in Coney Island.

Hank In Coney IslandBut those dinasour pajamas are the best, aren’t they?

This morning before we left our neighbor, Mr H. and his Grandson came knocking on the door.  MacGyver went outside to talk to them and was gone for about 15 minutes.  When he came back in he said they had actually been looking for me but he told them I was sick.

He said they had been sitting for a family member’s dog and it had gotten out and they needed my help.  MacGyver was able to help them find the dog but he said, ‘apparently everyone in the neighborhood knows your the go to for any and all pet situations’ and I said, ‘of course they do, I have a reputation, I am the pet whisperer.’

Have a fabulous weekend, I’m hoping to feel better by the weekend so I can run!

My longest run yet with no migraine and a Hank update

Happy Monday to you.  I’m a little behind with work and my blog and life in general due to all the trips to the vet and such so this post might be all over the place and full of typos and grammatical errors so, bear with me.

Hank is doing really well after his last surgery.  The wound is open so we have to use a special type of bandage which unfortunately tends to shift.  To help it stay in place the vet suggested doggie pajamas.  When she started to tell me where  I could find them I had to stop her.  Hank already has many pairs but now I have a legit excuse to put them on him.

Hank in PajamasIt’s been a little on the hot side here lately so I haven’t been able to put him in my favorite ones yet, however, it’s supposed to cool down later in the week and once it does, he will get to wear these:

AdidogRight?  I mean, those pajamas are everything.

On Saturday morning I had to take Hank in for a bandage change and I asked them to give him a shot to help with the itching and 60 bucks and an hour later the bandage was on the living room floor so the pajamas are on until this thing is completely healed.

For those of you who are following along, here is what the wound looks like currently.  Click on it to enlarge it but be warned, it’s really gruesome.

Hanks spider biteThere is one little area that looks a little dark to us but I don’t want to have any more skin removed.  Instead I ordered this kit and I’ve read really good things about it so MacGyver and I began using it this weekend.

spider bite first aidNow, let’s talk running because I had a killer weekend of running.  On Saturday I set out very early for a long run.  I made sure to take lots of powerade and water with me and I stashed some extra bottles along my route because it was hot.  I ran the longest I’ve run since I started to getting migraines, 15.25 miles and I did not get a migraine afterwards.

I didn’t look at my garmin or my phone during the run because I wanted to run by feel. I knew there was no way I could run long if I kept looking at my watch so instead I tried to run at a comfortable pace.  My comfortable pace is not really pretty.  It looks sort of like this.

awkward runningAnd during the 7th and 8th mile I felt like I was flying.  I was sure I was running an 8 minute mile or faster.  I felt like I could beat anyone.  And I was positive I looked like this:

running as fast as you canI was a little embarrassed when I looked at my splits later and realized I was running in the 10 and half minute range.  So much for me running by feel.

No matter, I still managed to run 15.25 miles.  I planned on 16 miles but I had to get to the vet with Hank so I had to stop a bit early.  On Sunday, I ran 5 more easy miles because again, it was ridiculously warm.

I have some more things to share with you this week about what I’m doing to keep those long runs migraine free.  Tomorrow I’ll share another piece with you.

What did you do this weekend?

Any of you run Gasparilla?  Did you see Meb?
