I’d like to thank myself…

It’s 9:15AM and currently the theme for Saturday Night Fever is playing on a commercial in the background and Mom is dancing in my kitchen.

Granny dancer

Not my Mom but oh so close….

Boomer and Hank are exhausted from their morning walks and laying on the lazy boy and sofa respectively and the bird is trying to clean out Boomer’s ears with his tongue which surprisingly he doesn’t mind.

My house is sort of like this,

bird house

but with more dogs and one bird.

Over the weekend we had our annual neighborhood garage sale and craft fair hence my absence on Thursday and Friday.  You see, I planned and organized it for the entire neighborhood.  Myself.  Did I mention I planned and organized it for the entire neighborhood all by myself?  Well, I did.  I am also exhausted.  The good news is, I’m 600 dollars richer.

dollar dollar

Well, actually, I was 600 dollars richer but now it’s more like 200 dollars richer.  Did I mention that mom is in town?  And have I told you how much mom and I like to shop?  Because we do and I need a lot of things for the new house.  Okay, maybe not need, maybe more like want.  I want a lot of new things for the new house.  So we shop.  And shop.  And then we shop.

show me the money

I’m helping the economy so much.  Aren’t you proud of me?

In spite of all I had going on last week and boy did I have a lot going on because, hey I work for myself and my husband, I write a lil ol blog, take care of two dogs a bird and the occasional neighborhood stray plus I just closed on two houses in one day, so why not plan and organize a community yard sale and craft fair for thousands of people, right?  Sure, throw some more at me, I can handle it.

Despite all of that, I still managed to run over 15 miles and get some physical therapy in so I’m all kinds of pleased with myself!

In the words of the late great Dee Dee Ramone, “I’d like to thank myself, and congratulate myself, and give myself a big pat on the back.”

Now I better go get some work done before I get too full of myself.

How was your weekend?

Do you spend extra cash as soon as you get it or are you a saver?  (I buy all the running things!)

Church of the Long Run, Shalane Flanagan is awesome!

I trust y’all had a wonderful weekend. Mine was pretty gosh darned exciting!

Peacocks and Pedicures Two things. Peacocks and Pedicures! There is no substitution.

My Mom and I had a garage sale this weekend. You might think that would be fun for me since I love going to them, but not really. Actually, I hate hosting them. I am finding that in my oldish age, I don’t really like too many people. Granted the majority of the people who came were nice but we also had our fair share of idiots and nutjobs. I realize that I may also tend to attract these types of people but the ‘wish it up’ lady and 9am drunk were my favorites.

Piss Drunk

Did you know that you can just walk around and wish for things all day and most of your wishes come true? No really, you can. This lady was like 55 years old and she’s been doing it her whole life. She wished a few new cars and even a few wins at the casino, Bless her little heart.

The next time you are bored or need some cheap entertainment, I suggest you host a garage sale of your own. That is some fine entertainment there people and it’s free, although you may want to borrow my idiot and nutjob attraction perfume just to make sure you get the cream of the crop. I’m gonna to be bottling it up pretty soon and it should be available at all the fine department stores.

This year I had a garage sale but last year at this time, I ran the Iron Girl half and even though the massive bridges you have to run over kicked my butt, I was really sad I missed it this year. But even though I had to miss it, my friend Cheryl ran and I am so proud of her, she finished first in her division! That’s gold baybee!

Cheryl wins gold I stole that picture from your facebook Cheryl! I couldn’t help myself…

Cheryl is one of the only people I have ever met that loves running as much as I do and she probably doesn’t know this but she is one of my inspirations and she motivates me to want to be a better runner and to get faster.

And since we’re on the subject of my inspirations, did you watch the Shalane Flanagan interview on 60 minutes last night? I hope you got to see it. My Mom and I watched it and we’ve decided that if Shalane lived near me, we’d be besties. (The Church of the Long Run, OMG) We love her.

But on a serious note, I want her to win Boston so badly. She really deserves that and how great would that be, right? I know I’ll be rooting for her and I may even have to call up the wishing lady.

Now because it’s Monday and you might need a little motivation, heres another pic I stole, this time from my Brother-in-law’s facebook:

There was a fire

What did you do this weekend?

Did you watch the interview with Shalane?

Garage sales? Go to them or have one?

Sugar High Friday and the G-Sale, WORD!

Happy Friday! How are you?

I’m still on a sugar high from all the candy I ate yesterday and I’m not sorry about it one bit! Well maybe just a little, okay, not really. I still managed to give out about 200 bucks worth of candy last night. We get about 2-300 trick or treaters every year, it’s cray, I kid you not!

I ran 4 miles this morning, just 4 easy miles around the neighborhood. I had to hurry back because I’m hosting a garage sale with my Mom for the next two days because apparently that’s the cure for a sugar high. I probably should be running a little more since I have a little half marathon coming up on Sunday but when Momma says jump, I say how high, and so it goes.

You get to meet all kinds of interesting people when you have a garage sale. There are the familiar neighbors of course. Some of them probably just come by to be friendly and others to see what you have, as in, are you doing better than they are; and some who are really interested in what you have. I enjoy meeting the people that I don’t know and learning a little about each and every one of them.

Today, I met an elderly, hard working gentlemen who peruses garage sales in search of tools because someone broke into his garage and stole all of his. I felt bad that I didn’t have more to offer him because he was so sweet and it really pisses me off that someone would steal from someone like that.

I also met a young girl who works two jobs just to make ends meet and she recently discovered a love for basketball. She doesn’t have a lot of extra money and she was so thankful that I sold her some almost new athletic shorts and shirts for a grand total of four bucks. I hope she gets to play basketball soon because she was really excited.

I met lots of friendly people who probably just wanted to stop and talk, lots of bargain hunters, deal makers and even a few nuts; but my favorite by far was the little lady from Canada. She was in her seventies and used to be a synchronized swimmer for Canada. She bought tons of my running and yoga clothes. She was in great shape and I never would have guessed her age. I assumed the gentleman she was with was her husband. He spent the majority of the time in my garage in deep conversation with MacGyver while she spoke with me and my Mom.

As it turns out, she recently moved here to be with her boyfriend, (the guy in the garage), and she’s hoping it works out because she really enjoys his company. It was too cute, seriously.

To be truthful, I don’t’ really like having garage sales, in fact I probably hate it. I’d rather go to them than have one any day. It’s too much work and not usually enough of a payoff to justify the labor in my book, but I love seeing my Mom interact and talk to all these people and she works a garage sale like a boss. I’m sitting here typing on the computer so I guess it’s not all bad.

Hope everybody had a fantastic week and I hope you didn’t eat too much candy yesterday, and if you did, go run it off, that’s what I’m gonna do.

Did you eat a lot of candy yesterday? Do you like having garage sales or do you prefer going to them? Any big plans this weekend?
