I’m back.

I guess I’ve been MIA for a while, huh?  Well, it wasn’t really intentional, it’s just that we’ve had a shit ton of stuff going on around here and quite honestly, I wasn’t all that motivated to write about it.  I’m back now so let’s catch up.

soccer

First and foremost, how freakin long are the World Cup Games?  I mean, jeez Louise, it’s been weeks since I’ve seen Kelly and Ryan and I’m starting to wonder if soccer is a permanent part of the Fox Network now.  No offense for those of you who love soccer, it’s just a bit much for me.

And also, has anyone else noticed the similarities here?

I’m just sayin.  Is it just me or do you see it?

I haven’t been running since Friday so obviously I’ve had a lot of time on my hands.

MacGyver is buying all the bells and whistles for the new boat.  He’s purchased new drink holders, and hatch covers, and rod holders and such but most importantly, he bought this:

Hank in his life vest

Hank has already roamed around the boat a bit while it sat in the yard.  Boomer hasn’t been in it yet.  I’m so excited to take them out in the new one because now Boomer has a place to lay down when he gets too hot or tired.

I might even put their favorite rug in there.

dogs

Seriously, how cute are they?

It’s been raining a lot here.  The good news is my flowers are growing like weeds and the mallards have become permanent fixtures so were happy with that.

My mother in law is doing a bit better.  She just had round two of the chemo treatments and is handling them very well.  She hasn’t thrown up at all which is wonderful news.  The treatments have been hard on her stomach though and after the first treatment she developed an ulcer which bled a lot and landed her in the hospital again.  We have to watch carefully to make sure that doesn’t happen again but, other than that, the side effects haven’t been too bad.

And as I mentioned, I haven’t really been running all that much.  The reason is because last week I started feeling short of breath again.  I didn’t really mention it to MacGyver at first but then I told him and my mom about it.  I’m a bit worried because of the pulmonary nodules that they found last year.  I had attributed it to the topamax since I had issues with breathing once I started taking it and I thought because I went off of it, the breathing issues would go away.

They came back and also when I was weeding the yard last week I got dizzy when I stood up and felt like I would pass out.  This and the breathing have me worried.  Unfortunately I can’t get into see the pulmonologist until August 3rd so I won’t know anything until then.  And until that time, I’m gonna,

Dr. Google

It’s a really short week with the fourth being on a Wednesday so MacGyver and I are heading to Nokomis for a little break and Lord knows,  I need it.

What have you been up to lately?

Hey from Nokomis!

Good Morning.  I’m coming to you live this morning from here,

Nokomis House

That’s our Nokomis house.  Currently I’m sitting by those 3 tall windows typing on the computer, not that you really needed to know that but in any case, that’s where I am.

We came down Friday late in the afternoon.  I had planned on doing some running but I didn’t run at all over the weekend.  I did go walking on the trail though, with Hank on Saturday.

Hanky

That’s not my horrible picture taking skills, it’s because Hank is so fast he blurs out in pictures.  Yeah, that’s what it is.

On Saturday MacGyver and I went to a few garage sales in the morning and then we went over to Englewood to visit with his parents.  My Mother in law hasn’t been feeling well so we wanted to go spend some time with her.

Later in the afternoon they came back over to our house so they could see the new baby bird we’re rehabbing and visited with us for a while.  It was a very low key and relaxing day.  That night however, MacGyver and I got to work on the landscaping because I had some weeding to do and he needed to mow the lawn.  Sometimes it seems like we spend half of our life working in the yard…because we do!

When I woke up on Sunday morning I just didn’t feel like running so instead MacGyver and I went out on the boat really early.

Venice Inlet

It was really early and the sky was a bit overcast.  I actually saw a wood stork fly over with something in its mouth.

wood stork

Just a few seconds later we saw another one fly over.

wood stork

They were carrying nesting materials.  It looks like the stork is gonna be delivering her own baby 😉

We headed out toward the Venice Inlet and I was taking a ton of pictures because like MacGyver always says, I only have 5,000 of the same pictures of the same inlet and probably the same dolphin so I must need more.

If you enlarge this picture you might be able to see that dolphin.

dolphn picture

They were doing some kind of diving thing at the inlet and there were police boats keeping everyone away from the divers.  MacGyver and I really didn’t see anything except at one point when they pulled a bench out of the water so I have no idea what they were doing.

Venice Inlet

We caught a few snapper and then I caught some of the absolutely smallest fish I have ever seen and so after a few hours, I called it and we went in.  MacGyver went back out for a few hours later and got a few really nice redfish while I took a nap with the dogs and the birds.

Later in the day we went over to the hospital because my Mother in law had to be admitted.  We are very glad that she got some immediate attention and that they are taking such good care of her , fortunately, the situation can be repaired and she should be just fine but we’ve decided to stay in Nokomis as long as we can so we can be here for her and my father in law if they need us.  I’m sure MacGyver is going to get in a little fishing too. 😉

I got up this morning a little more motivated and actually ran 5 miles on the Legacy Trail.

I can definitely tell that Summer is here but it felt a little drier this morning and not so humid.  It was actually nice.  I can honestly say that it was one of those runs I really enjoyed.  Of course, now, I need to get to work.

What did you do this weekend?

Easter orange mist on the moor and stuff.

Can you believe it’s April 3rd already?  I can’t even believe it’s April.  Seriously.  Time is flying by this year.

Anyway, in case you missed me, MacGyver and I just got back from a little mini vacay down to Nokomis.  And when I say vacay, I mean we basically went down and worked on our house for 5 days.  It wasn’t all work though, we had some fun too.

We saw this chrome car on the way down.  Does anyone have any idea what type of car this is?

chrome car

We got there on Thursday and I took MacGyver out to lunch at my favorite place, Left Coast Seafood Co.

pasta

After lunch we drove over to the pond supply place to check out some fountains and stones for our landscaping.  We are determined to put in some sort of water feature in the front yard.  We spent an hour or so looking at everything and got some pretty good ideas and some serious sticker shock.

All of the rock that we grew up with in Tennessee and Virginia is hella expensive in Florida.  We might have to go visit the relatives and pick up some to bring back.

On Friday I found an estate sale and a few garage sales locally and I convinced MacGyver that we needed to go.  It didn’t really take a lot of convincing.  If you have any doubts as to how much he loves a bargain, here he is retrieving a tool that someone dropped in the middle of a busy street.

Run honey

He spotted it from a half mile away, pulled over and ran out to get it.  I barely saw it.  Wouldn’t you know it turned out to be some German wire cutter worth around 75 bucks!  Yes y’all, MacGyver is that good!

I scored some awesome vintage marbles at the estate sale but they hardly compare.

I am taking all the credit for this next find because we found it at the estate sale that I heard about through one of my sources and we got it for only 60 bucks.

water fountain

Water feature, check!  I added the little bird statues because I already had them and they were too cute not to add.  We may change the cherub for a dolphin eventually but for now, we have a fountain.

While we were out we kept checking the security camera to make sure the animals were okay.  This is how they were practically the entire 3 hours we were gone.

dogs and bird

The two dogs cuddled in the chair the entire time and the bird ran around the room because you know, he’s in charge.

When MacGyver and I got home on Friday afternoon we started painting as we had the day before.  MacGyver also started putting in new windows.

You can see the new one on the right.  I love my new windows.  Love them!

And here is a picture of our living room which we finished painting with the dolphin gray that we used in the rest of the main parts of the house.  It’s hard to make out though.

living room

I also painted the spare room a very pretty blue but the picture is also hard to make out.  Obviously I suck at taking pictures.

spare bedroom

I refinished this desk too.

The highlight of the painting revolved around the master bedroom which we started on Saturday.  See, I had this vision in my head and I was positive it would be bright and sunny and exhilarating. So, while MacGyver and his dad put in some more windows, I got to painting.

master bedrroom

As you can see I stopped half way down the wall. Unfortunately it was the last wall.

I literally painted 3/4’s of the room before I realized it was the most hideous choice ever.  I stopped painting halfway through the fourth wall and then left and called my mom and told her I ruined my house because I turned my bedroom into an orange.  I’m pretty sure I cried a little too.  I should have known.  I mean both of my in laws hated the color and the paint guys at Lowe’s were making fun of it, though I didn’t get it at the time.  MacGyver thought it looked like pepto bismol but it wasn’t pink, it was coral.  I guess that’s a mute point.  The point is, it was definitely not a good color choice unless it was for a little girls room.  Or a grove.

That night MacGyver and I went to sleep but I got up at 2 in the morning to check to see if Lowe’s was open on Easter, it was.  And that’s where I went very early on Easter Sunday.  Because we had already returned paint twice, the guys at lowe’s thought I was playing an April fool’s joke on them.   I was not.

I told them we hated the color Tropical Breeze and needed to choose another one.  We ended up choosing Mist on the Moor and I think we made the right decision.

Master Bedroom

It also ended up looking much better in the master bathroom.

I couldn’t be defeated though so I decided to leave a feature wall in the bedroom and I saved one of the coral walls.

Master Bedroom

I think it works but MacGyver thinks that I should put the half can of leftover ‘mist on the moor’ to work and finish the job, we’ll see.  The coral is kind of growing on me.

On Easter Sunday MacGyver’s parents were over helping us with the house again and my mother in law made us the most wonderful Easter Dinner.  It was so good.  I have truly been blessed when it comes to in laws.  I couldn’t be any luckier, I swear.

I didn’t run a lot this past weekend, only 12 miles total on Saturday and Sunday and 36 total miles for the week however, I am so sore from all the painting and prepping that I’m pretty sure that counts as a few workouts.

We got home late yesterday and unfortunately I had a migraine all day and night, (probably from paint fumes.)  As we were driving in we thought we smelled smoke.  As we got closer we saw it.

Fire

This house is 3 street down from us, not far at all.  Fortunately the family was able to escape.  I have only met them once but they seemed nice, a young couple and their mother or mother in law.  Unfortunately the family’s two dogs perished in the fire.  So sad.  This is the third house fire that has happened in my neighborhood in the last few years.  I’m definitely going to be more careful with candles and things.

That’s it for me, I’ve got some serious work to do.

How was your Easter weekend?  Do anything fun?
