WTF Wednesday, it’s all about the protein

So all during the month of April I ate very healthy foods and I didn’t snack or over eat.  I also ran or walked when I could but mostly I lifted weights with MacGyver.  A solid month of that and I stepped on the scale and was completely shocked.

Yeah, I gained a pound.  I mean, I know it’s only a pound but I gave up Wendy’s Frosty’s and Reeses Peanut Butter cups for this!  What the hell?

So I asked my doctor about it because I was sure the steroids had somehow damaged my body and he told me to try to eat more lean protein and healthy fats.  Jesus, is everybody on the Keto train now?  I mean, not that I don’t think you’ll lose some weight but I read Bob Harper’s book and while I don’t eat a ton of carbs, I still like to think my diet is much healthier.

So for the first week of May I’ve been eating more protein but I’m not eating a lot of fat sans the occasional avocado.  I’ll see how much I lose at the end of the month before I decide if more protein is the key.

Diets suck

As far as exercise goes, I’m still not running.  I decided to take some additional time off to make sure my legs are completely healed before starting again, but I am walking every morning.  I’m up to 4 miles a day.  I’m also still lifting weights because I love the way my arms are starting to look.   And when you factor in that it’s already in the 90’s here and humid as all heck, walking seems a lot more fun that running.  Except for the bugs.

Actually, this morning I swallowed a pair of love bugs and at least 4 or 5 gnats.  Does anyone know how much protein is in bugs?  Maybe I can add that to my daily total.

Thursday, some things

Remember when I used to have a blog and wrote things on it like, a lot?  Yeah, I forgot too.

The truth is that I’m still working on this year long project and it’s so time consuming I barely have a moment to spare.  Oh, and also it has been raining for like a year, (actually 4 or 5 days) and the grass and weeds are taking over.  So yesterday we got a break in the rain and I spent the better part of the day weeding the mulch beds and trimming the massive overgrowth that is my lawn.

Remember how I told you that MacGyver and I had been on the Keto Diet but we switched back to our regular Paleo diet?  Well, for some reason MacGyver has managed to stay in Ketosis even with eating a few more carbs and he has lost a whopping 9 pound WITHOUT working out.  I however, am working out an hour to an hour and a half every day, eating less than 1,500 calories a day with a carb count under 75 and somehow I managed to gain 2 pounds in the last 2 days!

Here’s the plan.  There is no plan.  I’m gonna eat when I’m hungry, continue to work out and fuck it.

Did you see the news reports of the 30 year old who was evicted from his parents home?  This story was so great I wanted to posted it yesterday for WTF Wednesday but I didn’t have a chance.  So today, I am giving you the most awkward interview ever.  Oh, and also, this man will never in his life go on another date.

The Monday after when you eat all the things…

Hello and greetings from Nokomis.  We came down Friday night and we’ve decided to stay until this evening.  I’m working on wrapping up a huge project and for some reason I get more done down here.

I went for a walk on Friday morning and as soon as I got around the corner a peacock started following me.  He twerked his way around me at least 5 times.  I finally yelled, ‘No, Mr. Peacock, I am not having sex with you.’  (That’s what it means when they twerk like that and fan their feathers out.)  I didn’t realize a neighbor was standing outside when I yelled it so that was embarrassing.

We packed up on Friday afternoon and left Clearwater around 7ish.  MacGyver wanted to leave earlier I think but the Kid had mentioned that he sent something and it was being delivered on Friday so we I wanted to wait until it got there.

Y’all, I have the best kid in the World.  Not because he thinks of his mother on her birthday and Mother’s day but because he’s kind, smart, successful and honest.  Every day is Mother’s day because he makes me so proud.  We talk at least 5 or 6 times a week and even though he is miles away, we are very close.  I love that kid more than life itself.

And he does send the best presents too, in case you’re wondering.

Since I’m still taking some time off of running I decided to finish up the lawn down here in Nokomis.  I finished mulching and weeding the entire yard, front and back and I built a grilling patio for MacGyver.  Okay, actually I got sick of tripping over the grill and the Traeger smoker which were placed randomly around the backyard.

I didn’t take a picture of the patio because it isn’t quite the look I have in mind so I need to add some additional features and then I”ll show you guys.

On Mother’s day MacGyver and I went to dinner with his Mom and Dad.  Before we left I noticed my shoes were a bit worn so I threw them out and put on a different pair.  Somehow while we were at dinner I managed to rip the entire side of my sandal out.

Yes,  I ruined two pairs of shoes in less than two hours!  Apparently, I need to bring some new shoes down here…or go shopping.  Which do you think I’ll do?

MacGyver and I have been really good about following this diet that we are on.  Except that instead of a diet, we’re calling it a lifestyle change because it’s geared towards autoimmune issues and we really want to keep our bodies as healthy as possible holistically.

I haven’t been running and I didn’t have any other workouts planned while we’re down here but I’m pretty sure the moving of pavers and all the lawn work count for something.  Actually, I’ve felt really healthy all week until this morning because at dinner, I ate all the things.

Instead of pizza, I ate steak and potatoes and chocolate gelato and lots of champagne.  Oops.  Oh well, I’m back on track this morning.
