The great Mother’s Day Flood of 2019

I hope that all of you moms out there had a fabulous Mother’s Day.  I wasn’t able to spend mine with the kid because he doesn’t have any available time off right now and I couldn’t fly to Columbus so we had to settle for some facetime.  I sure do miss him but we chat at least 3 or 4 times a week.  MacGyver was a total sweetie and brought me these:

Roses for mothers dayWe had also acquired a washer earlier in the week, it’s a long story so don’t ask but anyway, MacGyver went and bought all kinds of hoses and things to hook it up so that I could have two washers because let’s face it, it’s sort of my dream.

batshit crazyAnyway, it took a few hours to get everything all hooked up and to re-organize the laundry area so that we could accommodate two washers but we got it done.  Just 10 minutes later I was washing the comforter off the bed.  And just 15 minutes later I went to check on it and my laundry area and spare bathroom looked like this:

floodAnd then it took about 4 more hours to clean it all up and move the washer back to the garage for repairs.  So, that was fun.  I’m still holding out for two washers, that dream will never die.

So, let’s talk a little about last week, shall we?

Even though I am mostly walking with an occasional jog here and there, I still managed to walk over 30 miles last week.   Thirty.

yesYeah, I was pretty happy with it.  Also I lifted weights 4 days last week so basically, I’m a full on fitness fanatic now and you should totally follow me on Instagram.  Kidding, but speaking of Instagram, if you don’t follow me, then you probably missed my post of Charlie’s mating dance.

I’ll share it with you here so you don’t feel totally left out.Cute, isn’t he?

And just because I haven’t posted a picture of him in like a hot minute, here’s a good one of Coo Coo Ka Choo on top of one of his ‘houses’ that he loves.

coo cooI totally meant to update last Friday but I was swamped with work and didn’t have the chance.  Anyway, I was dying to show you some of my favorite things, including my new entry rug.  The UPS guy and the  Postman both cracked up when they saw it.

lolI got mine on clearance from TJMAXX but I’ve seen similar ones on Amazon.

Well, that’s it for me, gotta jet.  Have a fabulous Monday, if that’s possible.

What did you do for Mother’s Day?

Seis De Mayo or the day after Cinco

Good morning.  I trust y’all had a fabulous Cinco de Mayo.  We celebrated by eating tacos last night.  Woo hoo.

cinco de mayo

Yep, that’s how we do.

MacGyver and I spent the weekend in Nokomis.  Saturday was my mother in laws birthday and we really wanted to be there so we could spend time with her.  After a year long battle with ovarian cancer her last scans came back clear so we had a lot to celebrate this year.

We had a wonderful dinner at Luna, an Italian restaurant in downtown Venice and then we hit up the 3rd annual Venice Wine and Seafood Festival.  We ended the evening with some very rich chocolate cake back at our house.  If you’re ever in the Sarasota or Venice area, you must visit Detwiler’s Farm Market.    It’s an Amish market and I got the chocolate cake there and it was absolutely heavenly.  In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever purchased anything there that I didn’t love.  You have to visit this store.  I think they have 4 or 5 locations and they specialize in fresh and organic products at great  prices.  Seriously, go there. You will thank me forever.

On Sunday MacGyver and I were doing a bit of work in the yard when MacGyver heard a huge splash in the canal. When he went to investigate, he found 2 manatees playing right in our backyard!  I managed to run into the house and grab my phone and capture a picture of one of them.

This is my backyard, I mean, how lucky am I?  I love manatees.

And birds.  But y’all knew that didn’t you?  In case you’re wondering, we still have Coo Coo Ka Choo.  I’ve grown attached.  He’s only let me pet him a few times but that’s all it took.  And he is getting real comfortable having the lanai all to himself, he even has a few favorite spots picked out.

Coo Coo Ka Choo

Isn’t he the most adorable thing ever?  I know.

I think I told you that I got an earlier appointment with the immunologist, right?  Well, I did.  He was super nice and spent a ton of time with me.  He also conducted several breathing tests which I passed with flying colors.  He is going to be doing some allergy testing on the 15th of this month.

He had me go get a test to see what my pneumococcal antibody titers are because apparently if they’re low, then he needs to do some additional testing to determine whether or not I have an immunodeficiency.  I got the results of the antibody tests back and they seem low to me but I’m not a doctor so I guess I won’t find out until I see him again so I’m still in limbo but at least some things are getting done.

How was your weekend?

How did you celebrate Cinco de Mayo?

Coo Coo Ka Choo

Last night MacGyver and I rented a few movies from redbox because the 3 streaming services and huge amount of cable channels that we have obviously don’t fulfill us.

Too much TV

Anyway, we rented The Mule and A Star is Born.  Yeah, I know, I’m late to the party but I finally watched A Star is Born.  I did like it, a lot, but I had forgotten what happens to the guy in the end and even though it happened a bit differently in this version I still hate the way it ends.   The Mule was good too but it was more MacGyver’s speed and not so much one I watch on my own.

I ran for a few little miles on Sunday.  I walked a lot too but I think it’s going to take a lot more time than normal to come back from this latest injury so I’m just going to take it slow and listen to my body.   MacGyver and I are doing quite a bit of bike riding along with our weight lifting so at least I’m getting some good cardio.

I don’t think I mentioned it on the blog before because it made me sad but last year we released our rescue birds.  They were ready and I knew it and I wanted them to have a happy life living the way they were meant to be but it was still sad to see them go.  I raised Woody from just after hatching and Squeakers wasn’t much older so I grew quite attached.  After we released them I sold all of the supplies and cages and everything because I just don’t think I’m cut out for rehab.  I get too attached and that’s not good because you have to release them.

That’s why when MacGyver found a little dove this weekend, I was very wary of taking him in but Oscar the Osprey has been hanging out all day catching fish and eating other small birds so I was worried the dove might not make it.

It was a good call.

coo coo ka choo

At first I thought it was a mourning dove but it turns out he’s not.  He’s a diamond dove.  Diamond Dove’s are sold as pets which means I can legally keep him.  I haven’t decided what we’re going to do but for now we’re protecting him and I’ve named him Coo Coo Ka Choo.

He’s still a little skittish around us so we’re just letting him feel us out and when it comes time, I guess he’ll let us know what he wants to do.  In the meantime, he lives on the lanai.

I think he might be binging me good luck because this morning I got a call from the immunologists office.  I had an appointment scheduled for May 20th to try to find out why my immunoglobulin G Subclasses are deficient and they called this morning to let me know that they have an earlier appointment.  TODAY.  So, I’m off.  Wish me luck.

Do you have any pets?

Have you ever had a pet bird?
