Saturday… far.

So, I made it to the doctor on Friday.  It’s a new doctor as required by my lovely government mandated, more expensive than diamonds, sub-par, thank God you’re not terminally ill, shitty insurance.  Surprisingly, I love the doctor and the people in the practice.  It was a wonderful experience all around.

doctors office

Just once I’d like to walk into a doctors office filled with funky furniture and cozy blankets. Sounds comforting doesn’t it?

Unfortunately, the insurance pharmacy benefits, not so much.

wont pay for a prescribed epi-pen so I would have had to pay 540 dollars!  I’m going to take my chances and avoid bees and shellfish for a while.  In the meantime, I filed a request for an approval, so that should be interesting at best but trust me when I tell you, I’m not holding my breath….

So, back to what’s going on.  This guy is in town for the summer from California,

Little Danny is not really little anymore.

Danny came over and spent the night Friday so that he and MacGyver could get up early and go fishing on Saturday.  I was supposed to go running that morning but instead, I took a cue from the dogs and slept in.

sleeping dogs lie

They look really comfortable don’t they?

After I did get up I took the dogs for a walk. and I’m glad I did because shortly after it started to rain and it never stopped.  Like ever, as in ALL DAMN DAY.  In fact, it’s still raining now.

We can swim in the front yard too! Well, not really but soon….

Seeing as how the dogs were sleeping, the rain was coming down, the guys were fishing and I didn’t have to be at the doctors office until 4, I did the only thing I could do.

more shopping

I did a teeny weeny bit of shopping.

I would have taken pictures of all the new stuff and showed you the photos but I had to pack it all away before MacGyver returned, you know, just in case he wanted me to model it all, or put on a fashion show, or show him the receipts, one of those things.

Anyway, I still had a few hours to kill so I got started on some reading material.

I finally read the recent issue of Runner’s World and the last 3 issue’s of Shape! I’m a serious slacker!

But my main focus is on this book which I am half finished with.

go set a watchman

I will probably need to read it twice and then re-read To Kill A Mockingbird so that I can give you my full and honest opinion.

Late in the afternoon, I got ready to go to the doctor.  I picked out something to wear from Clearwater and brought it here but then I wasn’t sure I liked it….

I hate it when that happens.  Do you ever do that?  Take an outfit with you and forget to try it on first and then not ‘feel’ the outfit?  Or is that just me?

Oh well, I think it turned out okay.  It was comfortable and because it was raining, pants were an option which is normally NEVER the case in the summer in Florida.

The jury is still out….but I’ll probably where it again, maybe with a scarf…..

The earrings however are all in…I love these earrings…and flamingo’s!

And now we have our fingers crossed that the rain will let up because we plan on going out on the boat and doing some serious fishing and some serious beaching.  My paddleboard is screaming my name and I just want to play in the water for the next few days.

So, right now, I’m going to attempt a run and hope the rain lets up and there are no thunderstorms.

And then, I’ll change out of my running clothes and into this:

swim suit

And commence with the weekending whatever that may be… be continued.

Now tell me about you’re weekend so far….talk to me…..

Happy 4th of July from Venice!

Happy 4th of July!

I hope you’re out enjoying the festivities wherever you may be.  We made it down to Venice around 10:30 yesterday morning and have been having a ball.  The dogs were super excited to come down.  It’s always exciting to sniff new grass and poop in new yards, in case you didn’t know.

Just wake me up when we get there….

Once we got down here and got unpacked MacGyver and I decided to head out for some fishing.  We haven’t been here in about 3 or 4 weeks so we were sort of surprised to see how overgrown the canal was.

our canal

It might be time to cut back some trees…

And how creative some of our neighbors have become.  Did you know that you can combine a barge with a bar b que, who knew?

bar b que barge

That might even be a smoker on there. Now that’s a party!

I guess a lot of people actually did have the day off on Friday because there were loads of people on the water.  Snake Island was packed and there were people fishing all over the place.  I’ve never seen so many kayakers, paddleboarders and boaters at the Venice Inlet on a Friday morning.

Even the sailing school was out and about…

rich kids daycare

Or, as I like to call it, Rich Kids Daycare.

MacGyver and I got right to fishing and we caught quite a few fish.  MacGyver caught 5 really good-sized snapper which we cooked for dinner.  I caught several snook but they’re not in season so we couldn’t keep them.

The most interesting thing though was this pelican I named Pete who came right up to the boat and hung out with us for most of the morning.

Pete the Pelican

                                              This is Pete

After a while Pete got pretty comfortable with us and I was able to feed him.

It’s pretty cool to watch them eat.

I have to admit I wanted to take him home with me but MacGyver said no so that was the end of that.  Bye Pete.

We headed out to the Gulf and did a bit of fishing out there and a manatee actually swam up to the back of the boat and played with us for a bit.  I wanted to get a picture but my iPhone got hot and wouldn’t turn on….

Anyway, after several hours, we headed back and while MacGyver cleaned the fish I lit the fire pit and got some wine ready.

fire pit

I built that fire pit with my own two hands all by myself.. Not that I’m all proud or anything…

After dinner we sat down to watch Dolphin Tale 2 because what else do you do when you’re on vacation.

Today, more boating and fireworks, but first, I’m off for a run.

my sign

I also built this sign. I’m obviously  all kinds of crafty.

I’ll catch up with you again soon.

Fireworks, love em or leave em?

The Weekend or A Comedy of Errors, same thing really.

It’s Monday already! Does it seem like the weekend just flew by? It sure feels that way to me but that’s probably not a bad thing. I don’t know about yours, but our weekend was a little ‘crazy with a side of nuts’ kind of weekend and it all started Friday afternoon……

Hanky oh nuts

MacGyver and I decided to go to the Venice house for the weekend, well actually, I decided and MacGyver went along. He didn’t really want to go but I can be pretty convincing when I really want to do something so that’s that. Anyway, I went out to pack up the car and just as I walked over to the car door, a bazillion wasps flew out of the trash and attacked me! I got stung 5 times in the ankle before I even had a chance to react.

wasp sting
Y’all, it hurt! No seriously, it was so painful. I contemplated not going to Venice for all of 5 seconds but then I was like, nah. Fortunately my allergies had been bothering me earlier in the day so I had taken a Benadryl, and I think that kept the swelling down quite a bit.

My pretty cankle

I’ve got a perty right cankle!

I did sport a serious cankle for most of the weekend, but since I’m only allergic to bees and not wasps, it wasn’t catastrophic. It could’ve been pretty bad…fortunately, there was no need to call Bear Grylls.

Bear Grylls

EWWWW, No, Just No Bear!

We finally got on the road and just 10 minutes into the drive it starting pouring, as in monsoon conditions, but we made it to Venice unscathed. We were there all of 15 minutes when I heard a rather large crash outside. No one was injured but my new tropical style umbrella took a beating as a very large limb fell off the tree in the backyard.

Needless to say when bedtime rolled around we were pretty glad to end the day.

Saturday morning, MacGyver and I decided to hit up some garage sales. We went to a community wide sale with about 60 individual sales. It was pure awesomeness and we had a blast. At the very last sale MacGyver and I were chit chatting with the homeowner when we heard a crash followed by a screeching sound that seemed to go on forever. A few seconds later we see an elderly woman pull over with a rather large scrape down the entire side of her car.

As we made our way towards her, Garage Sale Granny steps out and immediately asks us what happened. When we told her that she hit something, she said she realized that. So we asked her why she didn’t stop immediately if she knew she hit something and she said that she thought she had just clipped her bumper on the curb…

old lady drivers
But wait, it gets worse. We rounded the corner and the first thing we see….

is my car,

freshly scratched, with newly acquired dents.

my car with damage
It wasn’t too bad considering how bad her car was and I actually felt sorry for her, but as the homeowner pointed out, there are little signs that you should probably give up driving. This would be a sign!

We exchanged information and all that stuff and then MacGyver and I made our way back to the house. It was around noon and we decided to just go out and fish for a few hours.

I caught some snapper, a grouper and a trout and I was good to go and ready to turn back but MacGyver is never satisfied. When the fish are biting, it doesn’t matter what else is going on because MacGyver will continue to fish. And that is why we stayed out far past the time we should have……how far?

Like this….

The perfect storm
Okay, it was that bad, it felt like it was though. It was pouring and we were in the small boat with no cover so we had to haul ass to a bridge. It was thundering and lightning was crashing down all around my head. I’m just gonna go ahead and throw it out there, I was scared shitless and I cried like a little bitch.

Looking at the picture afterwards, it doesn’t look all that bad but I assure you, it was.

under a bridge

We had to hide out under the bridge for an hour and I was a soaking wet, cold mess.

After about an hour, we ventured out and the fish were still biting, so MacGyver would not take us home. We continued to fish for another hour. But when I saw lightning off in the distance I threatened to dismember him if he did not take us back. MacGyver drove us home. He fears no storm but he does fear the wrath of me!

Fortunately the rest of the night was uneventful and by the next morning the storm had passed and it was beautiful. We spent Sunday morning and early afternoon fishing and I caught a pretty sweet redfish and many other types of fish. I even caught a stingray. It was a great day out on the water mainly because I caught more fish than MacGyver and that always makes me happy. Competitive? No! Okay, a little…

We came home and did a little yard work, cleaned up the house and got ready to come home. As we loaded the car, MacGyver looked up at me and said, “You know, it looks like our luck has changed. This has been the perfect day.” And I was just glad nothing was trying to sting me.

As we were driving home, there was an accident on the interstate. We exited as soon as we saw it and reentered at the next onramp completely missing the entire thing and all the traffic associated with it. I started to believe him, our luck had changed.

I took a little nap with Hank in the front seat and woke up just in time to see the big bridge we cross heading into St. Pete towards home.

It wasn’t pretty….

Storm over bayside bridge
Yeah, hello storm.

Luck is overrated anyway!

So, how was your weekend?
What did you do?
