Friday with random photos from my iPhone

Happy Friday and all that jazz.  I’m pretty happy about the weekend, the weather, not so much.  Our humidity level is seriously oppressive and holding steady at 76.  In case you need me to clear that up for you…..

hair

Why yes, yes it is!

That about sums it up.

So, let’s end this stellar week with some random photos from my iPhone.

I snapped this beautiful sunset as we were heading toward the skyway bridge coming home from Nokomis.

This little guy……he found his old cave which smelled so I bought him a new one.  He hates the new one and refuses to give up the old.

Hank's cave

So I sent back to new one and bought 3 bottles of febreeze. Lesson Learned.

The guys running up to me to get some food….

white ducks

They are fast!

And after they’ve eaten with full bellies!

How beautiful are they?  Right?  I just love them.

Last night Mom and I took an hour walk down to and around Kapok Park.

Kapok park

This is true Florida

Kapok Park

It’s a bit overgrown…somebody needs to do some trimming

We were pretty excited to see this little bunny.  He wasn’t afraid of us at all.

Here’s a great shot my emu friend.  He was out again the other morning and for some reason he likes to run a few yards with me before turning around and heading home.

I ain’t scared, he’s friendly.

Emu

He needs a name, suggestions?

And the last random picture is one of a peacock who was just sitting on the fence but I love how peaceful he looks.

Now tell me about what you have planned for this weekend.

What’s one of your favorite pictures on your phone right now?

Friday and I’m a Disney princess in real life, no, really.

Another week has come and gone, and very quickly I might add.  Normally I’d be happy about that but since April 18th is fast approaching and MacGyver and I have an appointment with the accountant today I would have been fine if the week would have gone on and on and on, and on. After our appointment this afternoon MacGyver and I will be heading out to the cabin to lick our wounds.

Because after paying taxes the only thing that can make you feel better is a little four wheeling, a little shooting, and some running on your own personal running trail and some shooting, I already said that didn’t I?  Oh well.

my legs

This is me….okay, technically it’s my legs.

This morning I ran/walk/jogged/ran/hobbled/crawled and managed to squeak out 6 miles.  Really, really slow miles.  I did however see a peacock, a chicken, a rooster, and an emu.  I’m sure you aren’t surprised.  If you read my blog then you already know my neighborhood is fowl.  Hehe, get it, fowl!

Ahem

If you saw my instagram yesterday you may have already seen some of the photos below and wondered what the back story was.  If not, I’ma clue you in anyways cause that’s how I do.

Yesterday I was showing Hank how to feed the turtles in the pond.  He absolutely loves the turtles.  Seriously, he’s more little boy than dog, I swear to all that is dogly.

hank and mommy

This is how you feed the turtles…

I went into the house to get more bread and Hank stayed on the dock and had a conversation with Timmy the turtle.  It was so cute.

So, how long you been livin in my backyard?  Really?  And I never noticed?

When I got back to the dock I was feeding turtles and I raised my hand with the extra bread in it so that Hank wouldn’t try and eat it.  (He’s allergic to all kinds of things and can’t eat anything with grains.)

Take a look up in that tree….

Take a look up there in the branches.  Do you see the grackle?  I wasn’t concerned with him because grackle’s are wild birds and they’ve never really been all that friendly with us.  I just think of them as like any other bird, like a blue jay or a robin.  They aren’t super friendly like the peacocks or the wood storks or even the herons.   That’s what one would think anyway.

MacGyver was taking pictures and I’m glad he was because otherwise, he wouldn’t have captured this moment.

grackle

Yes, that bird did just take bread right out of my hand.

And if you think that was a fluke, it wasn’t.  He ate out of my hand an additional 3 times.  That’s right baby, it only took me half a lifetime but I’m officially a Disney freakin princess!

Happy Friday y’all, I’ll catch up with you in a bit from the cabin.

What’s the weirdest thing an animal ever did to you?  Go ahead and tell me.  I won’t judge, I swear.

Eight miles and birds having bad hair days.

Good Morning from lovely, little Nokomis, Florida.

Nokomis, Florida
It’s been an interesting and relaxing weekend and just what we needed after a hectic and stressful long week. I decided to take a rest day from running last Friday and MacGyver and I, along with the two dogs, headed down here to Nokomis.

Shortly after we arrived we hit up a few garage sales and then worked on the house for most of the afternoon. At some point I decided to take a break and go down to the dock and just relax.

And then some random guy decided to join me.

Great Blue Heron

Why, hello there. Come here often?

I’m pretty sure that’s a Great Blue Heron.  He was majestic and he just sat there the entire time, a mere few feet from where I was. In all the time I’ve lived in Florida I’ve never actually gotten this close to one before.  When I finally did get up to leave he shook his feathers out and let out a bird sound.  They really sounds more like a high-pitched duck with a sore throat.

I wasn’t sure if he felt threatened or if this was his mating dance.

But then he did this…

Great Blue Heron, bad hairAnd that’s when I realized he was just having a really bad hair day.  I completely empathize with him.

On Saturday morning I got up and ran 8 miles. Eight. Miles. I left the house around 6:50AM and hit up the Legacy Trail. I thought about running the other way toward the Venetian Parkway Trail but it has a huge bridge going over the Tamiami Trail and I didn’t think it would be a good idea to put any stress on my ankle.  Well, there’s that and the fact that it’s a hill but in the end that eight miles sure felt good.

On Saturday Night MacGyver and I went over to see the parents and they took us to Café 776 in Englewood.  It’s not the swankiest of places but the food was really good and the portions were enormous!  I would definitely go back and if you’re ever in the Englewood area, I highly recommend it.

After dinner we took a little ride down to Blue Star Memorial Park. I never knew it was there but it was absolutely lovely.

Breathtaking!

Since I had 30 miles in for the week and the clocks moved forward I decided not to run on Sunday. It also sucks because whereas I used to be able to head out at 6:40 and the sun would be out, now I have to wait until after 7:30 and that is so irritating. Daylight savings time really annoys me, in case you couldn’t tell.

It was very windy on Sunday but MacGyver and I threw caution to the wind and took the boat out anyway. We also brought these two vagabonds along…

Boomer boat

Girl, who you callin a vagabound?

dachshund hank

Where the hell are all the fish?

They hadn’t been on the boat in forever and they were so excited. It was the perfect day for them, not too hot, not too cold, and fortunately MacGyver and I caught four of the largest sheephead we’ve ever seen which really impressed them. Or not, they didn’t say either way, it’s just what I choose to believe.

And with that I need to get to work, but quickly before I go, what do you think of this mailbox?

motor mail box
I want to make one of these for our house down here. I think MacGyver would love it and we need a new post anyway since I took ours out a few times trying to park the boat and trailer.  I could write our last name on the side using the Mercury or Johnson font, cute idea or no?

What did you do this weekend? Did you run?

What do you think of the Great Blue Heron?
