Snakes, birds, fireworks, wasps and thumbs.

Good morning to you.  It feels so great to get back to work after a 4-day weekend, doesn’t it?

MacGyver and I got back from Nokomis last night.  We went down Wednesday night to celebrate the 4th on the water with his parents and to get a few things done around the house.  We also did a little shopping and had hoped to get in some fishing but I have to be honest, other than heading out to the inlet to watch the fireworks, I want absolutely nothing to do with the water right now and it makes me sad, but that’s how I feel.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of bacteria in the water at Nokomis, Venice and other area beaches and recently someone died from flesh eating bacteria that she got from wading in the water here.  There have been other recent cases as well, though not as severe but I’m not taking any chances.  Period.

Fortunately, we have a wonderful trail down there called the Legacy trail and I was able to run on it quite a bit.  It was wonderful and I enjoyed every single minute of it expect for 4 minutes and 32 seconds.  That would be the exact time I froze because I ran into this guy and completely freaked out.

MacGyver said he’s a Red Rat Snake or Eastern Corn Snake and that they actually make pretty cool pets.

funny sarcastic

Pets are dogs.  Period.

At one point this weekend, MacGyver and I were driving around and we spotted a guy walking his dogs.  He had 4 doxie’s and 2 corgi’s and they were so cute that we pulled over to take a picture.

And yes, he thought we were weird but is that not the cutest thing ever? Those faces!

On the 4th of July I took MacGyver to Yoder’s for lunch.  He had never been there and I was super excited to take him.  Besides the fact that it’s located at a little Amish and Mennonite village smack dab in the heart of Sarasota, Yoder’s has excellent food.  I never noticed before but on the shelves they have little knickknacks and they had the Amish Butterprint Pyrex bowls.

I don’t know why I got so excited about the pyrex bowls but I did and I thought it was great that they had the Amish print.  MacGyver was not at all excited about it and thought I was weird for mentioning it.  He was more interested in whether or not the waitress had participated in Rumspringa back in the day because he thought she looked like she might have had a wild streak many years ago.  I was just very glad he didn’t ask her and made a mental note to cancel the network that airs Return to Amish.

After lunch MacGyver and I headed back to the house so we could clean up the boat and get it ready to go see the fireworks and that’s when it happened.  The dreaded fourth of July curse, and it got me this time.

wasp sting

That picture was only 5 minutes after the incident.

I got attacked and stung by another damn wasp!  Can you believe it?  I immediately took Benadryl to try to keep the swelling down but it didn’t work.  And a few hours later while we were watching the fireworks, I forgot I had taken the Benadryl and that’s probably why I got drunk on only one glass of wine and took 73 pictures of my thumb.

I did manage to get these shots though.

fireworks on the fourth

The rest of the weekend was spent going to garage sales and doing a ton of work around the house.  It was busy but also relaxing if that makes sense.

Oh, and one last thing, there’s a pond at the end of our street in Nokomis and lately there’s this single wood stork who’s been hanging out there.  The last day we were there he let me get really close and I got a few pictures of him.  I call him Mork.  Mork the Stork.

Mork the Stork

Isn’t he adorable?  I hope he sticks around.  He brightens up the mucky pond.

How was your fourth of July?

Did you have a four day weekend?

Coo Coo Ka Choo

Last night MacGyver and I rented a few movies from redbox because the 3 streaming services and huge amount of cable channels that we have obviously don’t fulfill us.

Too much TV

Anyway, we rented The Mule and A Star is Born.  Yeah, I know, I’m late to the party but I finally watched A Star is Born.  I did like it, a lot, but I had forgotten what happens to the guy in the end and even though it happened a bit differently in this version I still hate the way it ends.   The Mule was good too but it was more MacGyver’s speed and not so much one I watch on my own.

I ran for a few little miles on Sunday.  I walked a lot too but I think it’s going to take a lot more time than normal to come back from this latest injury so I’m just going to take it slow and listen to my body.   MacGyver and I are doing quite a bit of bike riding along with our weight lifting so at least I’m getting some good cardio.

I don’t think I mentioned it on the blog before because it made me sad but last year we released our rescue birds.  They were ready and I knew it and I wanted them to have a happy life living the way they were meant to be but it was still sad to see them go.  I raised Woody from just after hatching and Squeakers wasn’t much older so I grew quite attached.  After we released them I sold all of the supplies and cages and everything because I just don’t think I’m cut out for rehab.  I get too attached and that’s not good because you have to release them.

That’s why when MacGyver found a little dove this weekend, I was very wary of taking him in but Oscar the Osprey has been hanging out all day catching fish and eating other small birds so I was worried the dove might not make it.

It was a good call.

coo coo ka choo

At first I thought it was a mourning dove but it turns out he’s not.  He’s a diamond dove.  Diamond Dove’s are sold as pets which means I can legally keep him.  I haven’t decided what we’re going to do but for now we’re protecting him and I’ve named him Coo Coo Ka Choo.

He’s still a little skittish around us so we’re just letting him feel us out and when it comes time, I guess he’ll let us know what he wants to do.  In the meantime, he lives on the lanai.

diamond dove

I think he might be binging me good luck because this morning I got a call from the immunologists office.  I had an appointment scheduled for May 20th to try to find out why my immunoglobulin G Subclasses are deficient and they called this morning to let me know that they have an earlier appointment.  TODAY.  So, I’m off.  Wish me luck.

Do you have any pets?

Have you ever had a pet bird?

Tuesday by the twos

Two miles.  The amount that I walked yesterday morning.  It seems like such a small amount but when you’re having breathing problems and it’s hella humid, two miles is a marathon.

Two minutes.  The amount of time it will take me to put on my running shoes and run a marathon as soon as my doctors figure out what is wrong and then ultimately fix it.

when you cant run

Two Days.  The amount of time until I actually meet with my new pulmonologist.  Also, an eternity.

Two movies.  I told you about one of these months ago but these are two movies that I simply cannot wait to see.

Love, Gilda

Three Identical Strangers

Two for the price of one.  A cassette tape in which I am auditioning to be a teacher, at 8 years old because yes, I thought I needed to audition.  So I reigned in my brother and sister and on that same tape my sister can be heard pretending to be Rosanne Rosanna Danna who stepped in cat poo and my brother, who is playing my student pronounces agent as ag-ant.  AG Ant.  I have that cassette tape in my possession and I am just waiting for the perfect moment to play it again.  Embarrassing two of my siblings at the same time.  Two for the price of one.  Finding a cassette player may prove to be  challenging…… and also I just dated the hell out of myself.

Never mind found it, AMAZON.

Two Dogs.  The amount I have and the little boogers who keep me somewhat in shape by insisting I walk them many times, every. single. day.  And feed them and pet them and give them snacks and take them for car rides and….

Two Birds.  Also the amount I have although I’ve released them countless times because they refuse to leave me.

Too Many.  The amount of peacocks and ducks that I feed daily in my yard.  Also why the two birds may be refusing to leave.  My shopping bill is huge.  HUGE.

Two hours.  The amount of time I slept last night because MacGyver is in Nokomis and it was eerily quiet without the soothing sound of his snoring.

Your turn, tell me something in twos.
