Friday Five, Reality TV and a watermelon turtle

Blue Bell is making ice cream again! I do like Blue Bell ice cream, like a whole heck of a lot, but I have to admit the first thing that came to mind when I heard that they were back in production was the safety of their products. Obviously that was based on the reason they had to halt production in the first place.

Apparently, I wasn’t the only one who thought that way, check out this tweet:

I think this guy is my new best friend.

Besides ice cream, I love watermelon and I will be the first to admit that when watermelon season comes to an end, I will cry. But since that isn’t going to happen for a bit, I’m going to seize the opportunity to create these creatures that I saw on the cover of this magazine while down in the Keys.

frog and turtle watermelonHow cool are those guys?  Mind you, mine will look nothing like that but I’m sure I’ll have some fun trying.  I can’t wait to make the turtle!

Since we’re on the subject of food, I read about a taste test involving all the flavors of Oreo cookies. It’s no surprise to me that the author chose the Reeses mini Oreo flavor as the winner, it just sounds delicious.  I have put off trying these due to my disdain over the candy corn oreo cookies, but after reading the article, I’m tempted….

Yesterday I decided to get back on the treadmill and pound out some miles. I was determined to get in 6 full miles no matter what, and guess what, I did it!  And then this morning I got up, got myself on the treadmill again, and I ran 5 more miles. That puts me at 20 for the week which was my goal and I nailed it!

You know that feeling you get when you finish your goal, that I’m superwoman, Queen of the World, Don’t get in my way, I rock, kind of feeling? Yes? No?

Well, it sort of feels like this:

Go daddy air pump

I love this woman, LOVE!

I can do anything, seriously, I can.

Lastly, I wanted to share with you the story of Linda Kleinbub. Linda was a stay at home mom. Her kids were grown and moving on and she longed to go back to school and start a new life.  But Linda was feeling bad about herself and she needed a change.

After losing 35 pounds with the help of weight watchers, Linda did one of the most dramatic things that most people could ever imagine.

Reality TvLinda went on Reality TV to improve her appearance and her smile. This is her story and as I was reading it, I thought about her standing in that box at the beginning of the process and how hard it must have been for her.

I wondered if I ever had the chance to do what she did, could I subject myself to that type of scrutiny, or would I? I’m still not really sure.

If you had the opportunity to go on Reality TV for a makeover would you do it, and what would you want to have done?  I still don’t know if I could do it but I think if I did, I’d probably want everything that they offered because I’m sort of a sucker for makeover shows. And also I’m pretty sure I’d get sucked into the excitement of the top plastic surgeons working on me, which is probably another reason why I should never do it.

I bit off more that I can chew

I bit off a bit more than I can chew this weekend.

biting off more than I can chew

I feel you turtle man, I do.

Let’s start with last Friday afternoon, shall we?  On Friday afternoon I made a trip over to Lowe’s with the kid.  Since we decided to stay home for the weekend, I thought it might be a good time to paint my bedroom so I bought lots of paint.

The last time that I painted it was years ago and unfortunately I used the wrong type of paint.  I won’t bore you with the details except to say that I have 2 walls primed and that’s as far as I’ve gotten and when I think of what’s left to do, I feel like this…..

This could go on for weeks….WEEKS!

In case you didn’t know it, I’m not really good at taking my time with things.  I like to just get them done.  Unfortunately,  I spent all weekend on this room and now it’s the weekday and I have other things that have to be done, like that job thing, ugh!

MacGyver refuses to help because he wanted nothing to do with painting the room in the first place.  Besides, he’s a little preoccupied with his new toy.

The mold of the fish he caught a few weeks ago.

This is the 42″ Snook that he caught….

So I’ll just have to resort to working on it during breaks and at night and hope I get it finished this month.

Since I was painting the bedroom this weekend I only had a chance to watch one episode of Orange is The New Black but it was hella good.  I can’t wait to see more.

I did manage to run both Saturday and Sunday and I was smart and ran on the treadmill.  I did 4 miles on Saturday and 5 on Sunday.  It was a nice break from the painting and although I would have liked to run more I just couldn’t find the time.

I did get a chance to wear my new romper on a trip to Lowe’s.  I’m not sure I like it with flat shoes and also because I have such a long torso I’m not sure it looks all that great.

The pattern is really cute though so that’s a plus.

All right, I need to get to work so I can find the time to paint today.  Oh joy!  And yes, that’s sarcasm.

Do you like painting?
Do you paint your house yourself or hire someone?

The recipe for the dessert that will change your life!

I think I promised y’all a recipe today. Typically I don’t share recipes because, well let’s face it, I don’t really cook. This recipe however is my Grandmothers and it’s for the best Christmas treat EVER. Hands. Down.

peanut butter bon bons
This will be your favorite thing from this point forward, trust me.
Side Note: I’m giving you the recipe for a double batch because otherwise you will have a shit ton of chocolate left over and no one in their right mind would throw away a shit ton of chocolate, am I right?

So, for the actual bon bons, here’s what you’ll need:

2 Cups (16oz) of Creamy Peanut Butter
2 Cups (16oz) of Confectioners Sugar
2 Tablespoons of softened butter
2 Teaspoons of Vanilla Extract

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix together

Roll the mixture into balls between 1 to 1 ½ inches round

Chill them in the fridge for an hour

For the coating, you’ll need the following:

ingredients for coating
A Double Broiler
¼ lb of Paraffin
6oz of Milk Chocolate Morsels
6oz of Butterscotch Morsels
(You can also use dark chocolate, white chocolate or any combination you choose. Just be sure to add 12 total oz of morsels.)
Put water in the bottom of your double broiler and bring it to a boil.

Put the top of your double broiler on and melt the paraffin first.

Melt the Paraffin
Next add the Chocolate and the butterscotch morsels.

Stir the mixture until all the morsels are completely melted. Be sure to turn your double broiler down to simmer at this point.

Now you’re ready to coat the bon bons.

After many years of making these, I’ve found the best way to coat the bon bons is with a fancy little culinary tool I call…a corn pick.

Corn Pick
Coat the bon bons and then place them on wax paper.

Dipping the bon bondry them on wax paper
I use a little fan to help them dry quicker but it’s not really necessary.

Once you’ve coated all the bon bons, you’ll want to go back and fill in the hole from the corn pick. Just quickly dip the other side and then place them back on the wax paper.

Let the coating thoroughly dry and then place them in a tin for the best gift ever!

Are you going to make my peanut butter bon bons? If so, let me know how they turned out! Please.
