Running and trying to tweak my diet, Ketogenic anyone?

Yesterday my legs were still quite sore.  That’s why I went on a five mile walk instead of a run.  It felt good to stretch my legs out a bit but running wasn’t going to happen.

sore legs

Things were much better today and I was able to pull off 7 miles but I plan on raking leaves again and pulling some more weeds much later this afternoon so who knows how my poor legs will feel tomorrow.

Did anyone watch the Grammy’s?  Does anybody else feel like Blue Ivy is sort of a brat?  Or is that just me….

Blue Ivy

Yes, she’s cute and yes, those kitten heels were adorable but I didn’t think she was so cute watching the way she talked back and sassed Beyonce and JayZ.  I mean, she told Bey to be quiet!  Oh, No girl.

I just thought she seemed really spoiled and it made me want to have a serious talk with her parents because she’s not gonna be little forever so somebody might wanna get that attitude in check.  It won’t be cute when she’s 15.  I promise you.

MacGyver and I put on Hulu last night to catch up on Shameless and when it was over we decided to watch a move.  If you haven’t see Ingrid Goes West, I’d recommend it.  It’s not the greatest movie ever made but it was relevant to our society today in how obsessed some people are with social media.

In a nutshell, Ingrid is a girl who becomes an instafan of a girl she sees on Instagram and then moves to California to befriend her.  It’s a dark comedy so if you like that genre, I think you’d enjoy it.

Let me know what you think if you decide to watch it.

After watching a bit too much TV and indulging in way too much sugar, MacGyver and I have decided we need to tweak our diets.  I mostly follow a paleo diet due to my problems with gluten and it also seems to help with my thyroid but lately I’ve read a lot of good things about following a Ketogenoc diet.

I know that there are healthy fats but it just seems weird that a diet that has you consuming so much fat is healthy?  I’m still researching it which is why I’m interested in hearing from anyone who eats this way.  How do you feel?  Do you have more energy?  Has it improved your overall health?

I need to know these things so feel free to chime in and leave me a comment, or a recipe 😉

Random things and a Ca-nine one one

Yesterday I was craving spaghetti all day, seriously.  And for once in my life, I had all the ingredients, including the gluten free noodles.

Hallelujah!  Clearly Jesus loves me.

So, I laid out all the things I needed for later when I would actually make the spaghetti and then went back to work.  MacGyver got home around 5:30 or 6:00 and as luck would have it, he was craving something all day too.

beer and wings

We made a compromise and I cooked the spaghetti and we ate a very small amount and then we went to Smokey Bones so MacGyver could have all you can eat wings.  I had a baked potato and broccoli because wings, uh, no thank you.  Especially at 9PM!

Afterward, we came home and little Hank was trembling.  He wouldn’t stop and we couldn’t figure out why.  After we went to bed he made the most horrible sound and then threw up all over the place.  It was horrific.  I felt so bad for the little guy and we were worried sick.  He didn’t throw up anymore but I stayed up with him until 3am just to make sure he was okay.  He seems fine this morning but if he seems at all sick at any time today, I’m taking him in.

Baby Hank

I can’t have my baby sick.

Because I didn’t want to leave Hank alone for too long, I went for a fairly short run this morning.  I ran down by the park where we located Baby P’s mom and reunited them and I was so happy to see the family this morning.  Look how big Baby P is getting.

Baby P

I also thought I got really lucky because I saw something sparkly on the ground so I picked it up, put it in my spibelt and then kept running.  When I got home I took a closer look.

Nope, not the hope diamond, it’s a piece of glass.  Son of a bitch.

Our weather here has been pretty hot and we’ve had a ton of rain lately.  It seems to come every day around 11 or 12am and since I didn’t get to lay my mulch this weekend, I had to do it this morning before the rain came hence the delayed post.

What do you think?

And now, even the gnomes are happy.

That counts as a workout right?

Is there a particular food that you crave more than any other?

Do you have any pets?

Run, Clean, Sleep, Repeat, (throw some baking into the mix.)

This weekend we didn’t go anywhere.  Not to Nokomis or Englewood.  Not to the cabin, not anywhere.  We stayed home in order to try and get caught up on some things around here.  Let’s recap shall we?

On Saturday I got up very early and did some running, about 10 miles worth.  It might have looked a bit like this:

or not but you weren’t here so you’ll never know.

It actually probably looked more like this:

awkward runningBut hey, 10 miles is 10 miles, right?  Right!

And then I cleaned the house for HOURS, and when I say hours, I mean hours.  What felt like days, really, but I sort of like that kind of thing.  I even got a bit of yard work in before it started to rain. I was on a roll.

on a roll

Not this literally

I wish I could have done more because believe it or not, I’m still about 900 days behind.  Give or take a few weeks.

Anyway after that I slept.

Falling asleep

It wasn’t pretty

On Sunday, I got up and ran again, only on Sunday it rained for most of the day so Sunday’s run looked mostly like this,

Raining buckets

Minus the dress and the bags of course.

And it was only a 4 mile run after which I cleaned house again for hours.  HOURS.  Twelve, to be precise.I think I should put my house cleaning routines on Instagram or Pinterest because they should be considered legit workouts.

Should I put this in my Pinterest WOD?

After Cleaning, I slept again.

I seriously do love my sleep.

And that was my weekend.  Yeah, super exciting.  I know.

Two other things did happen though.  One cool thing, we took Woody out to play on Sunday and another red bellied woodpecker flew down to the ground to say hello to him.  It was hella cool and we weren’t expecting it at all. (Hence the reason we ddidn’t have a camera 🙁 )

Woody was so curious and the other woodpecker was so friendly.  We’re hoping he continues to come back and visit and maybe teach Woody how to do the things a woodpecker needs to do to survive in the wild.

The other thing isn’t quite as cool but since MacGyver is a good cook and I’m a pretty decent baker we decided to try and make some of my favorite gluten free favorites so we don’t have to spend a fortune every week at the grocery store.

Yeah, let’s just say Udi’s has nothing to worry about.  They’re still gettin all my money for a while.  Chalk this one up to a big fail!  We’ll continue to try and try again.  We’ll get it right though and when we do, I’ll post the recipe 😉

That’s all.  Happy Monday.

What did you do this weekend?

Do you run when it rains?

Do you love to clean house?  I know I’m a weirdo but I seriously do!
