The Monday after when you eat all the things…

Hello and greetings from Nokomis.  We came down Friday night and we’ve decided to stay until this evening.  I’m working on wrapping up a huge project and for some reason I get more done down here.

Hank packed up

Can we go already? I’m packed!

Did you see his tongue sticking out, I mean, how cute is that?

I went for a walk on Friday morning and as soon as I got around the corner a peacock started following me.  He twerked his way around me at least 5 times.  I finally yelled, ‘No, Mr. Peacock, I am not having sex with you.’  (That’s what it means when they twerk like that and fan their feathers out.)  I didn’t realize a neighbor was standing outside when I yelled it so that was embarrassing.

(I made the alt tag ‘twerking peacock’.  I wondered what kinds of hits I’ll get from that, lol.

We packed up on Friday afternoon and left Clearwater around 7ish.  MacGyver wanted to leave earlier I think but the Kid had mentioned that he sent something and it was being delivered on Friday so we I wanted to wait until it got there.

Y’all, I have the best kid in the World.  Not because he thinks of his mother on her birthday and Mother’s day but because he’s kind, smart, successful and honest.  Every day is Mother’s day because he makes me so proud.  We talk at least 5 or 6 times a week and even though he is miles away, we are very close.  I love that kid more than life itself.

And he does send the best presents too, in case you’re wondering.

He knows me so well.

Since I’m still taking some time off of running I decided to finish up the lawn down here in Nokomis.  I finished mulching and weeding the entire yard, front and back and I built a grilling patio for MacGyver.  Okay, actually I got sick of tripping over the grill and the Traeger smoker which were placed randomly around the backyard.

I didn’t take a picture of the patio because it isn’t quite the look I have in mind so I need to add some additional features and then I”ll show you guys.

On Mother’s day MacGyver and I went to dinner with his Mom and Dad.  Before we left I noticed my shoes were a bit worn so I threw them out and put on a different pair.  Somehow while we were at dinner I managed to rip the entire side of my sandal out.

Yes,  I ruined two pairs of shoes in less than two hours!  Apparently, I need to bring some new shoes down here…or go shopping.  Which do you think I’ll do?

MacGyver and I have been really good about following this diet that we are on.  Except that instead of a diet, we’re calling it a lifestyle change because it’s geared towards autoimmune issues and we really want to keep our bodies as healthy as possible holistically.

I haven’t been running and I didn’t have any other workouts planned while we’re down here but I’m pretty sure the moving of pavers and all the lawn work count for something.  Actually, I’ve felt really healthy all week until this morning because at dinner, I ate all the things.

ate all the things

Yep, Accurate!

Instead of pizza, I ate steak and potatoes and chocolate gelato and lots of champagne.  Oops.  Oh well, I’m back on track this morning.

I hope that all of you Mother’s had a wonderful Mother’s Day and I hope that everyone had a blessed weekend spending time with those you love.

How healthy is your diet?

Do you follow a special diet or just watch what you eat?

Which do you think is worse, sugar or fat?

Motiv Customer service, Christie Brinkley and other things that are awesome.

First of all, a big thank you to the most awesome customer service that is Motiv!  They absolutely rock and I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

As you may know I was having some issues with my ring and I contacted them and they were on top of it right away.  They are not only sending me a new ring but they offered to call and explain the issues so I would understand what was going on.  No need Motiv, the fact that your customer service is so great and the product has features that I do love, I’m a happy camper and can’t wait to receive the new ring.  Once I do, I’ll be giving it a full review but your customer service team deserves a trip to Hawaii because they’re the best!

Customer service

What is wrong with some of these internet trolls?  Someone actually said Christie Brinkley looked old.  Like, OLD.  Why not think of something else to call her, like attractive or smart or inspiring?  Nope you had to go and say she’s looking old.  Of course then they said but still pretty.  Really?

It’s okay though because Christie had the best comeback ever, she compared herself to wine!

Christie Brinkley

I love her.  And trolls, if all you have in you is a backhanded compliment you may want to search your soul for some real substance.  That is all.

Kudos to the Detroit Free Press who every week highlights a runner from their marathon.

highlight runnerAnd these aren’t elite runners, these are just every day ordinary runners like you and me.  How cool is that?

And before I go I just wanted to pat myself on the back a little bit.  I’m taking a little break from running for a week or two but I’m still walking occasionally and this week, I also did yoga, did some weight training and rode my bike and even when I start running again, this time, I’ll continue all of those things.

Hope y’all have a fabulous weekend!  Got any plans?

My motiv ring is no longer motivating

I expect my technology to go wonky over time but let’s get real, by over time, I mean a long time, like at least a year or longer.  I love Garmin and I’ve owned 3 Garmin watches, two of which I still have.  I use them a lot so when after a year or a year and a half when they don’t stay charged as long or they occasionally don’t track a run, I get it.

I can say the same about fitbits.  I owned two fitbit HR’s and I loved them.  I wore them every day and they tracked my workouts fine but after a year or so the bands became torn and they would occasionally stop tracking and lose battery life quickly.  Both Garmin and fitbit are great with warranties and returns so I never had a problem.

Since October of last year I’ve been using the Motiv ring.  At 199 dollars I expected big things.  Overall I’ve been fairly happy with the ring and the company has continued to improve the app to include additional features and enhancements.  The only problem I had up until recently was the battery life.  My ring stopped holding a charge for longer than a day after only 5 months.

The great thing that I can say about Motiv is they handle their customer service issues and they did send me another ring about a week or so after I sent mine back.  The problem is, it still doesn’t hold a charge.  I mean, it holds a charge for around 2 days now but that’s all.  I was prepared to live with that until recently when it didn’t track my run and then once more it happened and I realized that it only happened when I didn’t sync it before going out to run.

Lastly, I have to twist it to sync it and lately it takes a really long time before it syncs and I find that extremely annoying.  I realize I may just have a defective ring and so I’ve contacted support again.  I’m mentioning it here because I believe in being 100% honest in my reviews.  I searched online to see if anyone else was having similar issues and I really didn’t find much so I’m hoping it’s just me but I am having issues.

And that brings me to another point.  I miss the fitbit community.  I also love the Garmin connect community but it’s nice to have that connection with other fitbit users.  I was so disappointed when my sister in law sent me a request to join her fitbit community after she got a new fitbit for Christmas and then I realized, I wasn’t using mine anymore.  I also miss having the time on my wrist at all times and not having to look at my phone.

I also have an apple watch that the kid gifted me last year when he got a new one and I do like it too but it’s a bit heavy to run with and I’m constantly worried that it will get damaged.  Apple watches are hella expensive so I usually only wear it for the ability to use it instead of my phone in certain situations.  And because it’s cool.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not giving up completely on the Motiv ring but I am thinking of entertaining a new device.  It’s one thing to have a single issue with something but repeated issues or multiple ones are not okay.  And I really don’t like having to twist to sync it.  I was okay with it in the beginning but sometimes it takes a while to connect and I’m super impatient so that’s probably just my issue.

I have contacted the Motiv support department again and we’ll see what they have to say but since I haven’t seen anything about it online, I’m curious if anyone else has had any issues or if it’s just me.
