So, a Florida Running Blogger walks into an Expo….

So in case you didn’t figure it out already, I went to the Best Damn Race Expo today. The race is tomorrow.

Best Damn Race Packet Pickup

You probably can’t tell by the pictures but it’s still freakin raining here. It’s been raining pretty much since Wednesday and I’d have to say that I about over it. I already ran a half marathon last Sunday IN THE RAIN. I’m not really looking forward to running in the rain again but I probably don’t have much of a choice.

the weekly forecast

I’m not so much upset about the weather as I am the shitty job the newscasters do at predicting it, because people please, if you don’t know what the weather is going to be like in 24 or 48 hours fine, just don’t try to predict it because you’re always wrong and it’s annoying. Seriously. I can look outside my window and tell whats going on without your input.

The expo started at noon today and ran through 7pm. I waited until almost 3 to head over because I was hoping the rain would let up.

Best Damn Race Expo

It did not.

Best Damn Race Tents

Can you see the Safety Harbor Marina Pier in the background? You may remember it from about 9000 of my photos, Hehe.

Best Damn Race Expo Vendors

I felt bad for the vendors because it was rainy and wet and I hope tomorrow morning goes a bit better for them.

The 10K starts at 6:45 and the half starts at 7:15. The 5K is scheduled for 9am.

Best Damn Race Start

Anyhow, I am looking forward to this race, it’s not called the Best Damn Race for nothing. And it’s 5 minutes from my house, booyah! I love Safety Harbor, obviously, but more than that…I get to run by my favorite tree..

The Safety Harbor Old Tree

It’s so majestic looking up close isn’t it?

Old Tree

And it’s very old. No, really it is. It even tells you that it’s old, see:

I'm an old tree

Now, I need to get some sleep because tomorrow is going to be so much fun ….. even if it rains!

Are you racing this weekend?

Do you like to race in the rain?

Oranges, Drum Circles, Fire Tables, Expos and a Half Marathon, my weekend in pics.

Hope you’re all having a fantastic weekend. We are in Venice. We came down Friday with my in-laws and are having a blast. Here’s a little recap of the weekend in pictures….

Nokomis Groves

First stop is Nokomis Groves for 40 pounds of oranges and grapefruit…I kid you not!

And you cannot leave the Groves without Orange and Vanilla Ice Cream! It taste just like a creamsicle. I would share but it's long gone...

Lakewood Ranch

Saturday Morning, we headed out to Lakewood Ranch….

Lakewood Ranch

I think this is the clubhouse for Lakewood Ranch, but I couldn’t get over the bar…it was pretty awesome.

Suncoast Half

Entering the Expo for the Active Suncoast Half Marathon!

Suncoast Half Marathon expo

The expo for the Suncoast half was small but very personal and I loved it.

Nokomis Beach Drum Circle

After the Expo, we headed to the Nokomis Drum Circle. If you ever come to Venice or Casey Key, this is a do not miss!

Drum Circle

There are bellydancers and hula hoopers and some people who really can’t dance at all and sort of spaz out all over. I like watching them all.

shells and sharks teeth

There are tons of shells on the beach and even prehistoric sharks teeth.

There were 5 or 6 sailboats out this evening.

drum circle

There were hundreds of people who came out for the drum circle.

The sunset was beautiful however, my picture taking skills need some work.

POPS Grill

After the drum circle we headed to Pop’s on the water for some serious carbs.

We ate outside around the fire table while watching the band.

MacGyver and Mom and Dad.

Too many Coronas later, time to end the night...

This morning, I woke up at 3AM, headed down to Lakewood Ranch and just a little after 9am, I completed my first half marathon and first race of the year!

Suncoast Half Marathon

I’ll do a full recap later but for now, I’m a bit tired, a bit under the weather, and hella hungry!

Did you run a race this weekend? How was it?

The Athleta Iron Girl Expo

Good day, how you doin? Me? Spectacular!

No running today because I am running the Iron Girl Half tomorrow. I’ve been wanting to do this race for a few years now so I’m super excited. Today was the race expo and I convinced my Mom to go along with me.

Iron Girl ClearwaterIron Girl 2013

This is the tenth year of the Athleta Iron Girl race series. I love the fact that it’s a women only race and everyone is so supportive. If you are interested in learning more about the Athleta Iron Girl race series, you can visit their website. Here is a little excerpt from the site:

“Iron Girl empowers women to discover their personal best, embrace strength and celebrate accomplishment in a supportive community of women that will cheer them on. The event is about women with all the touches and amenities developed with women in mind. Whether this is your first or 100th event, there is a place for you at Iron Girl.”

Athleta Iron GirlOf course the best part about taking your Mom to the Expo with you is that she buys you a new spibelt and lots of neat little things. I kid, I kid, actually the best part is having a personal photographer so you don’t have to take selfies:

Heres a few more pics from the expo:

Has she lost her mind, Can she see or is she blind?

Did you see that bridge, oh wait there’s two, holy shit!

Yeah, I’m kind of freakin out on the bridge deal. Obviously after my little run in Tennessee I have realized that Big Hills + Up and Humming = Turtle Power!

After the expo, I got my pre race fuel on with a little dinner from Codys Roadhouse.

Codys Roadhouse

So one last thing before I go get my sleep on. A big shout out and super congrats to my sister who ran ANOTHER 5k today and beat her last time by an incredible 8 minutes! GO GIRL! I am so proud of you!

Did you run any races this weekend?
