And I ran, slow and steady, but I ran

Well, this weekend it happened, I started running again!  I mean, I’m all kinds of awkward and slow but then, is that really a new thing?

silly running

Nope.

I walked around 10 miles last week and my hip felt fine so on Sunday I decided to run and I ran a whole 5 miles.  It was a slow and steady run but it felt so good.  I can definitely tell the difference in how I feel since I started cross training more.  I’m gonna veer off my beaten path from now on and keep doing that.  It seems to work. 😉

We had a pretty low key weekend around here.  It rained on Saturday afternoon and pretty much all day on Sunday.  It didn’t stop me from getting some yard work done though because we’ve entered the rainy mowing season here and I have 3 lawns to mow on the reg.  If I get behind it’s a bitch to catch up.

For some reason I happened to be awake on Saturday morning and caught some of the royal wedding.  I loved both dresses though the second one was my favorite.  The first one would have been pretty in a tea length but then it wouldn’t have been a wedding dress now would it.  That train!  Oh my gosh, I would have gotten it caught on a pew or something and ripped off the crown jewels so that would have been a no for me but she pulled it off so Go girl.

I wasn’t really all that interested in the actual wedding or who attended and all the customs and pomp and circumstance.  I was interested in little Charlotte.

Charolotte

her wave game is on point!

MacGyver and I did manage to go to a few estate sales over the weekend and I did very well.  One of the places that we went to had some various things in the garage and I found this unique looking rooster.  I offered the person hosting the sale a dollar and they accepted.

Turns out it’s a Dala Rooster from Sweden, circa 1950’s.

I found one just like it on etsy selling for 92 dollars!  I’m not selling mine, it’s prominently displayed in my kitchen on a shelf above the sink.

Now let’s talk food.  I know it may seem like I’ve been a bit evasive in talking about the diet that MacGyver and I have been on.  It’s not that I didn’t want to tell you about it but rather I wasn’t sure exactly how I felt about it and so until I figured it out, I didn’t want to talk too much about it.

eat all the cheese

Anyway, we were doing the keto diet.  We didn’t plan to stay on the diet long term for many reasons but mainly because it is very hard to keep your body in ketosis and in order for the diet to work in the way that it’s supposed to, that’s what you have to do.  I have to say though, when I read I could eat ALL the cheese, I was on board.

The problems that I had were that I had to keep my carbs under 8 grams a day just to even get my body in ketosis and then if I went over 20 grams of carbs in a day, my body would not stay in ketosis.  Also, no matter what recipes I found or tried, I could not get enough fiber.  And I NEED fiber.  I will say the diet did a good job of breaking me of the sugar habit that I had developed over the past few months but I could no longer eat all the fat.  I mean, let’s be honest, food was going in but nothing was coming out!

So I had to Veto the Keto.  MacGyver and I are now back to our paleo way of life and while it’s still fairly low in carbs, we get enough fiber and not so much fat.  I lost weight after the first 24 hours of getting off the diet.  I’m not going into details, I’m sure you can figure out how 😉

Have you tried the keto diet?

Are you strict with your diet or do you splurge whenever you want to?

  1. I have not tried Keto. Lately my diet has been if I like it I will eat or DRINK (beer) it. If I am craving it I will eat or DRINK(beer) it. If I am with friends at a bar I will DRINK beer. ha! I am trying to have fun more because it seems whenever I “diet” or watch my carbs I can’t have my beer and thus, I say no to outings more often. (Not wanting to be put in challenging situations)

What can I say??? A lot of my friends like to go to Happy Hours and I see nothing wrong with that. 😉

  2. I’m doing OK with my running. I even went in the rain (when it was kinda light. Not when you can only see the rain falling). But my muscles are TIGHT. I’m trying to work on stretches to get them to release and may get PT. I had a trainer at the gym a couple of years ago and we had to work on loosening my muscles then. I couldn’t do a lunge really.

(ha first post from my new phone. Have to fill out my name)

    • My muscles are always tight too. I did find a yoga video for runners that works for me but I have to build up to it. Meaning I can’t do the full moves until 3 or 4 days of doing it. Flexibility used to be one of my best features, so long ago….LOL
