Home for the holidays!

Happy Friday before Christmas!  Are you ready?  Have you gotten everything done?

I’m one of those people who gets everything done and then when I have a bit of time to relax, I start second guessing all of the gifts I bought.  Did I buy enough?  Did I get something they really want?  Should I go get something else?  Should I exchange so and so’s for another person?  It’s maddening!

nervous breakdownThis year I’m trying to pull off perfection because after a  long almost 14 months, THE KID IS COMING HOME!  That’s right, at 12:22AM he’ll be landing at the airport and I’ll be there to pick him up.

He’s pretty important at his job so they’re only letting him off on Christmas Day which means that he has to fly back that afternoon but no matter, I get three days with him and I’m so excited.

When I spoke to him earlier in the week I told him that I had gotten together with friends and baked cookies and he asked if I made the peanut butter bon bons.  I said no and I could tell he was disappointed.

My Mamaw used to make the peanut butter bon bons every year at Christmas and she gave me the recipe when the kid was little.  When he was five we started making them together and it became a tradition.  He wasn’t able to come home last year so I didn’t make them.  Guess what I’m doing today?

Bon BonsWhy, I’m surprising the kid of course!  Shhhh, don’t tell.

Tell me about one tradition that you do with your family every year?

My favorite drink evah, especially at Christmas time

In all fairness let me just say I don’t really drink all that much.  I enjoy it less and less the older I get, but there are times when I like to indulge and one of those times is Christmas.

Typically I like a good glass of Pinot Grigio but at Christmas and a few other special occasions I like to drink a Nuts and Berries.

what is thatA nuts and berries is a drink that taste, well, just like nuts and berries.  It’s smooth and sweet.

nuts and berriesI like to make mine with whole milk but you can also use heavy cream or if you want to really get festive, mix it with eggnog.

Here’s what you need,

Nuts and Berries drinkMix together, 1 oz of Chambord and 1 oz of Frangelica, pour over ice and fill with whole milk.  (You can substitute the milk with cream or eggnog as I mentioned above.)  Most importantly, enjoy.

Isn’t that a sweet punch bowl?  It’s a vintage 1950’s Hazel Atlas Egg Nog set/Punch Bowl with 12 cups with Horse and Carriage and Tom and Jerry design. I got it at a yard sale for only 5 bucks but I found one here and here.  I absolutely love it.  Vintage Christmas finds are the best and I’ll probably end up handing it down to the Kid or one of my nieces eventually.  Hopefully it will stay in our family for generations to come.

What’s your favorite drink?

How often do you indulge in libations?  hehe, I said libations.

WTF Wednesday – the Christmas list

MacGyver has been asking me what I want for Christmas for the last few weeks and believe it or not, (I know my family is totally not going to believe it), I don’t really want anything.

Anyway, the things I’d like to have aren’t available yet. You know, like a dryer that also folds and puts away the clothes or dog collars that magically train your dog as soon as you put them on. I’m holding out for those big ticket items.

But under the pressure I caved and put together a list of a few things that I saw and that I liked. And now, I’m going to share them with you, just in case you need recommendations for that sarcastic introvert on your list.

Coffee cups. Not just any coffee cups, these coffee cups,

Dish towels that completely get me.  Because really, if I have to always wash the dishes, I should at least be entertained while I’m drying them, right?

I love books and I love to read.  These books are readable.  They make the list.

We need a new door mat and this welcome mat accurately describes our home.
And I’d love to have this last thing, except it’s on backorder on Amazon.  I will most likely buy it for myself as soon as it is available.  It might also be a future birthday gift for certain members of my family, I won’t say who but you’ve been warned.

I wonder if we’re allowed to have farm animals where I live because a real screaming goat would be awesome.

WTF, it’s Wednesday and there’s still time to get that shopping done.

What’s on your list this year?
