Happy 2017 y’all!

Happy NEw Year

I hope that it’s starting out well for you and that you had a fabulous time ringing in the New Year.  MacGyver and I aren’t big on celebrating the actual event.  Well, there’s that and the fact that we don’t really like to stay up til midnight, like ever, so we don’t.  MacGyver went to sleep around 9 after a full day of hunting, and I passed out around 10:30 since I ran another 10 miler that morning, it was a blissful day.

We’re not the kind of people who do resolutions either.  I think it puts too much pressure on a person to commit to changing on a specific day.  I think consistency is key for anything in life and I think if you feel like you need to make changes then you need to find a way to make those changes whenever.  I think of the first of the year as more of a time to reflect, if anything.  Unless, of course, you’re Mariah Carey, then you might want to resolve not to perform on New Years Rockin Eve never, ever, again.  I watched that on the news the next morning and it was very hard to see.

Make it stop!

The Kid works for a major bank so he has the day off today as do a lot of other people that I’ve spoken to.  MacGyver and I are self employed so we work all the damn time.  We’re super busy today and it looks like that will be the theme of our January since we also have to do our yearly taxes and such.  That’s always a real joy.  I just love this time of year.

Fortunately the really big project that I was working on for the last four months I have almost finished and I am training the clients tomorrow.  I will be so glad to have that one off my plate.  So freakin glad.

I ended 2016 with another double digit run on Saturday, a ten miler around the neighborhood.  It was cold too.  I left the house and it was 43 degrees and my fingers were stone cold blue when I got back.   A full hour and 45 minutes later and by that time it was 51 degrees.    I had on gloves the entire time but I didn’t think I needed my hot hands.  I guess I was wrong.  I have become such a wuss.

The next time it falls below 45 degrees I will definitely put hot hands in my gloves.  Blue fingers and toes are no fun.  I have mad respect for you snow runners!  You people are beasts!

I am halfway through the Zero Sugar Diet and I’ll have a review on that for you pretty soon.  I’ve also got some other books I’m reading and plan on reviewing.  If you guys have suggestions please throw them out for me and I’ll see what I can do.

Also if anyone got the Fitbit Alta for Christmas or the Charge HR I’d love to hear how those are working out for you.

I’ve got some things to get done now.  I’m making dinner for MacGyver tonite and he’s requested beans and cornbread.  Making gluten free cornbread from scratch is going to be a first for me and the beans I started last night but I need to get em on the stove.

Does anybody else know what ‘lookin’ dry beans over’ is or am I the only person in the world who says this?

Does anyone make Black eyed peas for the New Year?

  1. Happy New Year to you! Yay for another double digit run. We didn’t stay up til midnight either. We were going to go to a movie and dinner but I wound up getting shingles (UGH) and Rick got a terrible cold so we watched college football bowl games and got take out! I was in bed by 8 PM and not mad about it (I never want to stay up because I want to feel good on the first day of the year). My only goal for the year is to get back to a more regular yoga practice. I kind of let it slack last year because I ended up lifting much more, but I am ready to get back on my mat. Oh, how did the cornbread turn out? I have made GF cornbread–it’s really good! P.S. you might not be able to disclose but what is your job? Do you like being self employed? Rick owns his own company and LOVES it (mostly). I am not sure he could ever work for a company like I do 🙂
