Yesterday, after I finished running and hopped in the shower, I thought to myself that after several weeks I really probably should not be dealing with all this constant pressure in my head from my sinuses, and I should be feeling some sort of relief by now.

So, I followed the advice that I gave MacGyver and I went back to the doctor.  The doctor agreed with me and did some poking around.

My sinuses are all kinds of f’ed up and the infection hadn’t really been identified and treated correctly.   If I had kept running eventually it could have gotten worse and it could have turned into bronchitis again or something worse, or not, who knows really.

Thankfully it has now been identified and it is being treated.  I now have the proper antibiotics, which I will be taking for 20 days, and then I’ll follow up with the doctor again.  If the infection isn’t clear, I’ll take the antibiotics again for 20 more days.  That may sound like a lot but it’s what worked for me in the past and I have no doubt it will work for me again.

Now let’s go back to running for a minute.  It’s no secret that for the past year or two I’ve been burdened with migraines and some stomach issues and other things but we’re slowly getting to the bottom of things and in the interim I’ve slowly been getting back to running as my body lets me.

I’m now running an average of 30 miles a week and while it feels great to be running again I haven’t really been able to set any solid goals or plan any races or do any real training.  I’m hoping that will all change soon.  Since changing my diet a few months ago and then eliminating processed sugar a few weeks ago, I’ve noticed big improvements.

I haven’t really attempted any speed workouts but I have looked down at my RunKeeper app lately and noticed this happening:

So that’s nice to see but I’m not gonna lie, it sure will be nice to be able to do some speed work and actual real training soon.  And hopefully, (fingers crossed) I can even race next year.

Anyway, the whole point of this post besides the fact that I ramble is, if you know that you just don’t feel right and somethings wrong, it probably is, so have it checked out.  Err on the side of caution and don’t risk it because it’s just not worth it.  I plan on running a 5K in under 25 minutes in 2017 and you can bet your sweet ass I will because I’m going to do everything I can to get healthy first.

  1. You have been doing awesome with your running! It’s been so great to watch your come back. Sinus infections are my jam (NOT). I can get some nasty ones that require augmentin and prednisone! Since having allergy shots and trying to do regular sinus rinses they have gotten better but I got a bad one last year. 2 rounds antibiotics plus 2 rounds steroids!! I feel your pain. Hang in there, girl.

    • Awe, thank you! Sinus infections are the worst! I hate them. I’ve been getting them since I was six years old and my doctors used to say I would grow out of them but I never did.
