And I ran, I ran so far….

Sometime on Friday afternoon MacGyver, my Mom and I were sitting in the living room watching TV and discussing our plans for the next day when one of our neighbors pulled up outside.  He isn’t one of our immediate neighbors, he lives a few streets over and we aren’t really close friends with him but I would often see he and his wife when I was running all the time.  Since he has a son in law who works in the same industry as MacGyver I assumed he was there to see MacGyver so I told MacGyver to go out and see what he wanted.

After a few minutes MacGyver came back in shaking his head and asked me if everyone within a 5 mile vicinity knew me as the ‘that runner girl’.

I'm THAT girl

Duh, they just all KNOW me!

So, I asked him why and he said the neighbor was just worried because he hadn’t seen me running by lately and he and the other neighbors had been talking and they decided that since he knew my husband he should come by and check on me and make sure I was okay.

So, you see, I am famous.

Kidding.

I’m trying to make a point.  And get to an important lesson here, which is, if you run in your neighborhood, get to know your neighbors.

They’ll watch out for you and they will help to keep you safe.  And for all of those people who made fun of me for running in circles, go suck it.

On Saturday the cold front came through and while MacGyver went hunting with friends I decided to forgo the morning exercise and spend the day with my mom instead.  I knew I wouldn’t have a lot of time to take her to garage sales or to the malls or for any other shopping throughout the week so we went Garage sale-ing on Saturday and we had a blast.

We found some pretty awesome things but mostly we just had a really good time spending the day together, talking, laughing, and enjoying the weather.  We also shopped got over 10,000 steps on our fitbits so I’d say it was pretty productive.

Sunday morning turned a bit cooler and I decided it would be a good day to attempt a longer run again.  I was determined to go at least five miles without stopping but more if I felt okay.

I ran six!  SIX FREAKIN WHOLE MILES WITHOUT STOPPING PEOPLE!

awkward

And then I danced a jig, kind of like this but maybe even more awkward.

It was epic.  Six miles felt like sixteen.  It was incredible.  It was slow and I didn’t run any spectacular trail, I didn’t master any amazing hills or break any speed records.  I ran six uninterrupted beautiful, peaceful, blissful miles and I realized that I didn’t forget how to run, my body hasn’t totally fallen apart and I am still as strong as I ever was. and I didn’t get a migraine.  F*ck Gluten.  I quit you.

I spent the rest of the day doing some things around the house and running errands with mom.  Last night MacGyver and I joined the rest of the World and watched the season premiere of the Walking Dead.  I won’t spoil it for you….I can’t anyway because there are just no words.  I haven’t even processed it yet.  I mean, I already knew what would happen, I seriously did, I called it a long time ago but still, they never cease to surprise me with the way they make it happen.  Does that make sense?  Did you see it?

Last thing…If y’all have read my open letter to Nabisco then you know how upset I was over the Candy Corn Oreo’s, but by the grace of the Cookie God’s Nabisco must’ve read my letter because Mom took a trip to Target yesterday and brought these home.

Great timing Nabisco.  It only took you three years.  And now that I’m flippin Gluten Free!  Nice.

Dammit

Dammit!

If you need me, I’ll be out in the neighborhood.  I’ll be drowning my sorrow in exercise.  Running.  In Circles.

Don’t knock it til you try it.

Have you tried the Candy Corn Oreo’s?

Did you watch The Walking Dead?

Visitors and vacancies, an update.

When I disappear from the blog for a few days, it’s not because I don’t have a lot going on and that there isn’t much to write about, quite the contrary.

i;m busy

I’m probably the exact opposite of most bloggers in that when I have a lot going on I hardly have time to catch my breath and it’s hard for me to gather my thoughts and put it all into words so for that I apologize because there are a lot of things and I often want to tell y’all but sometimes it just doesn’t make it to the blog.

Anyway, here’s a brief update, I’ve been walking and running and working my a$$ off.  The end.

Miss Piggy!

Kidding, sort of.

My Mom arrived last night around 9pm with little Shakespeare.  We didn’t have much time to catch up since it was late and everyone was tired but I’m sure we’ll have plenty of time to do so later today and over the weekend.  I’m glad she’s here. I mean I was doing okay, running a little here and there and working my butt off but I definitely needed her here because I can use her help and her company.

Otherwise I’d just be a little worker rabbit slaving away all day at the computer until bedtime taking an occasional running break and walk breaks here and there.

Like this little guy….

I just wanted to use that gif because it’s the best gif ever and I’m pretty sure he’s my spirit animal.

My Gastro appointment is Tuesday and while I’m sure I can handle it just fine on my own it’ll be nice to have some back up.  Mom and I were talking about the status of healthcare in this country the other day and I mentioned how said it is that almost everyone with any kind of health problem really needs an advocate these days just to handle all the bullshit that insurance puts you through and it really has come to that hasn’t it?  So sad.

Also, Mom is a great distraction from all my woes because whenever I feel sorry for myself she quickly snaps me back to reality and steers me right back to the mall mothership.  Life is good.

MacGyver is going to be doing a lot of hunting this weekend so I am going to pull myself away from the projects that have defined my life for the past month and spend some quality time with her.  I am also going to go for a longish run and I am hella excited about that.

Oh, and the weather Holy shitballs how could I forget about the weather?  Have you guys seen the weather?  It’s going to be perfect this weekend!

Get outside and do something this weekend!  I demand it and you deserve it.  Treat yourself to some exercise and nature.

Tuesday tangents

I just got back from walking the dogs and taking a five mile walk myself and now I’m sitting here watching the CSI van roll by.  Nothing tragic to report just another robbery in the neighborhood.  Another vehicle break in.

It’s so annoying to watch helplessly as my little neighborhood just repeatedly gets targeted over and over again and all we can do is just sit here like targets and it’s all because of the way we are zoned.  Just to give you a basic idea, my house is county but the house directly across the street is city and the house next door to it is county and the house directly behind it is city.  It’s a ridiculous mess and when a crime occurs such as a minor break in and the police are called, the 911 operator has no idea who to direct the call to and God forbid we have an emergency.  I’m so afraid that one day I’ll have a need to call for medical services and they won’t know who to dispatch and the outcome will be determined by the mere seconds it takes for them to decide….I shudder to think about it….

On the other hand we sort of have it made because we are zoned county so we can have small farm animals and fires, so there’s that.

I ended up with a migraine yesterday but not because I ran.  I know this because I have been keeping really good records and I hate that I have to do this but it’s become necessary, otherwise I wouldn’t know what went wrong because Topamax does help with migraines but for memory, not so much.  Anyhow, I took a peek at Saturday and Sundays diet notes and then I looked over what I drank and I was a little shocked to see that I didn’t drink very much at all.  Bad girl!

Migraine mystery solved.  Also, Topamax and too little water is a no no since it can cause kidney stones so I won’t be making that mistake again.  We learn from our mistakes right?  I wish I would have caught it earlier instead of losing half a day to a migraine but it wasn’t so bad.  I made a fort blanket in the media room with the dogs and we chilled out for a while. I feel all better today.

I’ve got a visitor coming tomorrow and so do the dogs….

How much water do you drink in a day?
