Team USA, boats and family

Let’s just go ahead and address the most important thing that happened this weekend.

Jemima Sumgong

A big congrats to Jemima Sumgong of Kenya!

The 2016 Olympic Women’s Marathon.

I didn’t watch it live because we were on the boat but I did follow along via my iPhone and it was just as exciting albeit much less stressful.  Kara Goucher said it perfectly via Twitter.

A big congrats to Shalane, Desi, and Amy who were so amazing and looked so strong and powerful.  I love watching those women run.  Actually I love ALL of the track and field events and I have for as long as I can remember.  My favorite site for keeping up with results, news stories and medal counts is ESPN.  This link is for the track and field events but you can navigate to any other events from there.

And now, let’s talk about my weekend.  On Friday night MacGyver, me, and the dogs headed down to Nokomis to spend time with the family.  I was supposed to come down Thursday night and have an EEG on Friday morning but due to some other issues I cancelled, (more on that at another time), and so we all came down together on Friday night after the rain which afforded us the opportunity to see this:

At one point it was a double rainbow and so close it looked like you could actually touch it.  I couldn’t get a picture of the double one though because I was too busy trying to figure out what it meant.  Bwahahahaha

Rainbows never cease to make me happy.  Well, rainbows and bad jokes.

We got to the house too late to actually do much except look at the grass and moan and groan about how much of a pain in the ass it is to cut it.

overgrown lawn

There is a dachshund somewhere in this picture…no really, there is.

FYI, this is what your lawn looks like in Florida if your too much of a control freak, (me) or too much of a cheapskate (MacGyver) to hire a lawn service.

On Saturday morning MacGyver got up to go fishing and I headed over the Legacy Trail where I managed to walk 6 miles and score some serious Pokemon.

That’s an awesome shadow right there let me tell you.

Later that morning Inspector Gadget came over and the brothers hung out all afternoon while I went shopping with my sister in law and the kids.  We had a great time and then decided to call it an early night with plans to get up early on Sunday and head out on the boat.  We were all really looking forward to a day on the water.

I got up early and got dressed and prepped for a day of serious fishing, I was ready!

Bass Pro

Bass Pro Shops, REPRESENT!

We headed out about 8:00a.m. and here are some photos from the trip

At the beginning of the trip we were happy and hopeful.  Hopeful to catch some serious snapper and maybe a redfish or  two…..Unfortunately the only thing I caught was a tiny speckled trout.

I did catch selfie fever because this happened.

Selfie oneAnd I kept going because obviously I have no shame.

Today is my sister in law’s birthday so I hope you will all join me in wishing her a wonderful and happy birthday!

happy birthday

Happy Birthday Philly!  We love you.

MacGyver and I decided to take each of the kids on separate evenings so that they could each have a night alone to feel special.  On Saturday after we got back from fishing we all swam in the pool and then MacGyver and I stole my nephew and headed back to the Nokomis house.  We had a great time playing Pokemon Go, eating a little too much junk and watching some hilarious TV.  It was a great time.

My nephew and I have a special bond, we actually share the same birthday.  For the last few years we’ve celebrated together.  I love having someone to share my day with and we always have a great time.  This year we decided that since we’re both playing pokemon Go, we would set a goal to reach level 23 on the 23rd (our birthday).  We’re both pretty excited about it but probably for different reasons.  My nephew is on level 14, which means he needs to play a lot of Pokemon Go and do a lot of walking to hatch some eggs and that means we get to spend a lot of time together and I am really looking forward to that.

After taking almost an entire week to get to Level 21 I’m worried that may have been a lofty goal but nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?

I am also looking forward to having our niece over this week.  She is also our goddaughter and we have a special bond with her as well.  We only get to see the kids a couple of times a year so it’s nice to have some one on one time with them and I also like giving their mommy a little break.  🙂

Unfortunately today is Monday and reality just hit me like a ton of bricks, time to get to work!

What did you do this weekend?

What do you do on your birthday?

Did you watch the Olympics?  Which events did you watch?

  1. This weekend I ran 5 miles, went to the beach for 2 hours and then later didn’t feel well. Sunday went to the beach for 3 hours and didn’t run. Read some books. My weekends don’t vary much!

I like to 1. not work on my birthday and 2. I like to travel for it (but doesn’t end up happening often). This year I worked it but I traveled. I think I would have rather worked it and not traveled lol

  2. You look great on your pictures. The 400m for men was taken by South Africa AND he broke the record. That was exciting AND his coach is a 74 year old lady. She is so cute!!
