Keeping up with a 12 year old: Tales from the whipped.

The men’s 800 meter race has been dominated by Kenya for several years so it was quite a surprise to see Clayton Murphy take home the bronze for the United States.

If you’re in the mood for an inspirational story you might want to read how a 21 year old pig farmer from Ohio became an Olympian and won a bronze medal in a race the USA hasn’t won a medal in since 1992.  I think we’re going to see some amazing things from this kid.

While I didn’t win any medals yesterday I did manage to get up bright and early to go on a six mile walk yesterday morning and the sunrise was breathtaking so that was a win.

I probably should have gotten a bit more sleep the night before because this bridge almost killed me.

On the bright side, there's a poke stop at the top of it ;)

On the bright side, there’s a poke stop at the top of it 😉

In all honesty I can’t wait until I can actually run over it again instead of walking and I’m hoping it’s sooner than later, but we’ll see.

After walking yesterday morning and then working for a few hours my nephew and I headed out to do a bit of shopping for my sister in law’s birthday.  It didn’t take long because as it turns out my nephew is pretty observant and knows exactly what his mom likes.

This puzzle is awesome!

After shopping I had to work for a bit longer and then we went out to play a little Pokemon Go and work on our 23 by 23.  We found the cutest little kayak launch that I had no idea was there.

We walked a few miles and my nephew informed me that he hopes to have a six pack by the time he finishes all the levels in Pokemon Go.  He’s only twelve so I’m pretty sure he has a better shot at it than I do.

I haven’t seen a six pack in at least 10 years, coincidentally that was also the last time I drank beer.

Kids, this is what they really mean by beer belly!

On a serious note I did earn my piece of ice cream cake from last night because between all the shopping and walking and trying to keep up with my nephew, I walked over 23,000 steps.  On a Monday.

What?  That’s crazy talk!

fitbit stats

The fitbit don’t lie!

Nope, it really happened.  It’s been a long time since the kid was little and MAN, kids wear me out!  I think I might have to borrow some more often, it could seriously whip my  butt into shape, or kill me.

Last night we had a little birthday party and celebrated with my sister in law.  Everyone had a great time.  The kids and dogs were exhausted by the end of the night.

The birthday girl!

My niece came home with us last night for her sleepover turn and I suspect the dogs will be attached to her like glue.

And with that, I’m out.  Time for a walk.  If an Ohio pig farmer can become an Olympian, I can get my butt up and walk 5 miles today, right?

Did you see Clayton Murphy’s race?

Have you been watching the Olympics?

Do you think the marathon should be run in the Winter Olympics instead of the Summer or does the weather make the race more of a challenge?

  1. Winter running is a CHALLENGE (for me that is). Because I prefer summer and hot runs I think it’s everybody’s favourite.

  2. I’ve already lost my fitbit 🙁

There’s a retiree a couple doors down who walks 2 twice a day for 10 miles. He said it’s because he likes to eat 🙂 Yeah me, too!
