Tuesday Tangents

The past few days have really sucked in terms of running for me.  Yesterday I ran 5 miles on the Legacy Trail before we came home to Clearwater.  I walked a large portion of it.  For some reason my gait felt all wrong and I couldn’t quite catch my breath.

This morning I ran another 5 miles but I pretty much walked the last mile.  Again, I felt like I just couldn’t catch my breath.  Granted it was humid but not unbearably so.  I’ve slowed down quite a bit as far as my pace goes and I think that may have something to do with it.  Whatever it is, I’m not in pain and I’m not injured so I am not going to overthink it.  Sometimes your body just needs a little break.

Little Hank seemed to be recovering from his dental issues quite nicely.  He was able to eat only a few hours after his surgery and by Thursday he seemed very spritely and active.  Then, on Monday morning he seemed quite lethargic and when we tried to feed him he seemed like he was in pain and didn’t want to eat.

At first I thought maybe he was still upset over the ending of the latest episode of the Walking Dead, I know I was, but it actually had something to do with his teeth and not what happened on the show.  I mentioned to several people that he wasn’t given antibiotics and most of them thought that was weird so I took him back to the vet last night.

I may be a little sick but I”m upset about the Walking Dead too!

The vet didn’t think that there was infection of any sort but she gave him a shot of antibiotics anyway and sent me home with more pain medicine and another hefty bill.  I am so glad my dogs continue to prove they are million dollar animals.

This is Milla Bizzotto

Milla Bizzotto

She just competed in the Battlefrog race.  If you’re not familiar with it, it was designed by navy seals which means, it’s tough.  Milla is 9 years old and a past victim of bullying.  She trained for 9 months to run in Battlefrog and she completed 36 miles, swam an eight kilometer course and finished 25 obstacles for six laps.

During the 24 hour race she only slept between 2am and 6am.  She was the only competitor under 18 and she kicked ass.   She told the Miami Herald that she was bullied in the 2nd and 3rd grade and wanted to compete to show other kids that they can do or be anything they want.

What an inspiration!  Maybe I should think about Milla’s example the next time I’m pushing through 5 measly miles….

All right it’s your turn, go off on your one tangent right here.

Last week in workouts

Since we were in Englewood late yesterday we came back to the Nokomis house to watch the Walking Dead and then it was after 10PM and neither of us wanted to drive home so, as you may have guessed, we just got home this morning.

I’m a little behind the gun today but I’ll get caught up eventually.

In the meantime, here’s how some of my week went….

Last week I ran a total of 34 miles.  I also got in some additional strength workouts and some cross training.  I got one arm workout in that I found on Youtube.  I also worked in the lawn twice which I’m counting as cross training since each time I was out there for over 2 hours and I’m pretty sure pushing around a lawnmower is a decent workout. (If you don’t agree you are welcome to come mow my lawn.)   I also got in a 2 hour kayak ride with the kid and I loved it.

This week I’m hoping I can focus more on weights because that’s the ultimate goal but whatever I can get done, it’s better than nothing.

Since I’m really crazy busy today I just wanted to check in and update quickly but I also wanted to tell you about Tina.  Tina is a fellow blogger, runner and someone who is so sincere you can’t help but like her.  She had a lifelong dream to run in the world half marathon championships for her country, Great Britain.  This weekend she accomplished that goal and she finished strong, 49th overall and 3rd for Great Britain!  You can read her post here.  And if you love running, follow her blog, she’s absolutely amazing.

Did you get all your workouts in last week?  Tell me about them.

It’s Good Friday!

Happy Good Friday or if you don’t recognize Good Friday, it’s good today is Friday so be happy!

Good Friday

This week is coming to an end but this weekend is going to be full of festivities and family time.  My heart couldn’t be happier but before we get to it I wanted to tell you about some of my favorite things from the week.

The kid came down to Nokomis with us for his days off which are Thursday and Friday.  Yesterday he and I spent the morning visiting some of the local thrift shops and we had a ball.

The bargains here are insane!

After all the bargain hunting we wanted to decompress a bit so while MacGyver was helping to trim a tree for a neighbor the Kid and I took out the kayaks.

Look at that view…

We tried to find a certain canal that leads up to a long creek that the kid discovered for the first time a few years ago.  Unfortunately, we went the wrong way for a while and by the time we figured out the right way it looked like a storm was rolling in so we headed back.  We didn’t care that we didn’t find the canal because we had a great time.

Good Friday

That’s the kid way back there soaking up every minute of it.

In case I haven’t mentioned it like 300 times, my niece and nephew are in town and I know of two dogs who are over the moon with all the attention that they’ve been getting.

This picture warms my heart.

True love, unconditionally.

Another favorite from the week was running on this beautiful trail with my sister in law.  As far as sister in laws go, I struck gold with both of mine.  But they’re not just great sister in laws, I truly love the both of them as if they were my own sisters, they are wonderful, wonderful people and if you are lucky enough to know either one of them your world is much brighter, I promise you.

IMG_4676Lastly, I wanted to say how proud I am of this girl.  Tina is running in the World Championships for Great Britain and Northern Ireland this weekend.  I know how hard she has worked for this and I couldn’t be more excited for her.  If you have a moment, check out her blog.  She is full of helpful information and her love of running exudes from everything that she does.

Have a Happy Easter!

Tell me about one of your favorites from the week.
