And just like that the weekend is over, how did that happen so fast? And today is President’s day which means maybe 2 of you lucky people will have the day off and for the rest of us, well, we’ve got…
Let’s talk about my weekend, we’ll start with Friday because on Friday I ran 6 miles that morning and then I got a full days work in so I pretty much felt like a superstar. Later in the evening MacGyver was working in the garage so the kid and I ran a few errands. We went to the grocery store and to Wal-Mart and I had to run to a few specialty stores. Before long it was dinner time and I had absolutely nothing prepared, so we stopped at Popeye’s Chicken.
I don’t mind Popeye’s, it’s not my favorite, it’s not my least favorite, it’s just meh, and I was hungry. The guys however think Popeye’s Chicken is the best. Actually I think it’s the Cajun Sparkle, they probably don’t really care about the chicken at all but they hoard that damn sparkle.
After dinner we all watched a little television and then MacGyver and I headed off to bed. My plan was to get up early, run 10 miles and then watch the Olympic Trials. This was one of those weekends where I was so excited, I could hardly wait for Saturday. I knew I wouldn’t have any problem falling asleep because I was exhausted.
From 1:30AM until 5:30AM I threw up a small cafeteria worth of food. It was horrible. Nothing would ease the sensation to throw up and no matter what I tried, it just kept coming up. When there was no more food, I threw up liquid, and when there was no more liquid, dry heaves. It was bliss.
Needless to say the run on Saturday did not happen. I was so sick I almost went to the ER but somehow I managed to get through it. I felt well enough on Saturday to watch the Olympic Trials and that was about it, but that was all I needed, it was so exciting.
Amy Cragg is super human! She has trained her butt off because she didn’t not even resemble the same runner from 2012. Don’t get me wrong, she was obviously a great runner in 2012 but she is THE one to watch in 2016. Amy Cragg could bring home a gold medal.
Can you just imagine how she would have done if she hadn’t been hanging back with Shalane the last few miles? Don’t get me wrong I think that it was highly admiral of her and it just shows you what kind of person she is but she is in top form and if the Trials were any indication, she is going to kill it at the Olympics.
I was pretty impressed with Desi as well. Although I think she could have closed the gap a little sooner and maybe have even taken first from Amy Cragg but her strategy was on point and she ran a smart race.
For the men, holy Moses, Galen Rupp ran his first marathon, and HE WON! And of course, Meb came in second which was stellar. After watching the trials I wanted to run so bad, it was killing me, but I loved watching all that talent and I’ll have plenty more to say about the top 3 in the weeks to come.
Sunday was Valentine’s day and MacGyver and I decided we didn’t want to go out to dinner because of my stomach issues and we decided not to spend any money on gifts this year. So instead of shopping and spending a ton of money, I made MacGyver homemade rock candy and he built me a drawer for a cabinet that I’m refinishing. It was my favorite Valentine’s day ever, bar none, and I sincerely mean that. (Holy crap, when did I become so grown up?)
I also felt much better that morning so I was able to run ten miles with no problems at all, not even a migraine. We topped off our perfect day with the best thing ever….an all new episode of The Walking Dead!
This morning we are headed down to Nokomis and Englewood for the week. I’ll tell you all about it tomorrow. because I have to get on the road now. Hang in there, Monday will be over before you know it, unless you’re one of the lucky two who has the day off because if you are, it will fly by.
Did you watch the Walking Dead?
What did you do for Valentine’s day?
Did you watch the Olympic Trials?
