Happy Halloweenie

You heard that right, I said Happy Halloweenie.

Actually, I didn’t say it, Hank did.

Happy Halloweenie

And then Boomer was all like, “wait a minute lobster boy, what the hell am I?  The black sheep of the family?’

And then Hank was all ‘no man, you’re a white sheep.’

And then Boomer just grumbled.

You know, cause my dogs talk and shit.

Happy Halloween you ghouls and goblins.  I hope you’ve got your costumes all ready to go.  I’m dressing up as ‘middle aged lady who likes to run’, it should be a hoot.

Be safe out there and have fun!

Dog Town Running Trail is currently occupied….BY ME!

It is Friday so I guess favorites are appropriate and I do have a favorite thing this week that I want to tell you about.

running trail

Dog Town Trail!

My personal running trail that MacGyver and I built on our property. I’m mentioning it as a favorite this week because….

that’s where I am!

And guess what….the Kid is with us too! I have all 4 of my guys with me, MacGyver, the Kid, Boomer and Hank.

I photobomb like a beast!

Oh, and I almost forgot about this new guy the guys decided to adopt.

They were calling him ratty or snakey, but I called him a snake cab and sent his little butt packing because no thank you!  There will be no snakes in the house or cabin or Dog Town or whatever.

We got here very early Thursday morning and after the sun came up and it started to get hot we went over to South Beach for a swim. Boomer was in heaven!

Then we came back to Dog Town and I decided to burn some garbage that had been left around the lean to. Never let me near fire. I repeat, never ever let me near fire.

After I burned most of the garbage and a bit of old grass, the Kid and I headed off to check out the surrounding areas and look at the pond and some surrounding campsites. We came back about 45 minutes later and MacGyver was in full on panic mode trying to extinguish the fire which had already burned about a half acre area around the lean to.

No worries, we got the fire out with minimal damage but I am now banned from any and all fires, matches, lighters or flammable substances.

It’s definitely a man cave kind of cabin, but I bitched it up a little.

So, that’s what’s going on here. We’re actually coming home Friday nite because the kid has to work on Saturday and the dogs have to do some trickin and treatin. So, I’ll update again on Saturday morning.

In the meantime, have a fantastic Friday. I’m going out to run some miles on Dog Town Trail and I couldn’t be more excited…

Dog Town Trail

I love my trail! Welcome to Dog Town, I’mma eat me some miles for breakfast!

Tell me one of your favorite things from this week.

Thursday – Electrolyte Replacement, I finally nailed it! (with a little help)

In case you aren’t familiar with me or the blog I’d just like to mention that I live in Florida. That’s right, Florida, the place with beautiful yet tropical weather. The place where it’s hotter than Hades 97% of the time and I sweat y’all, a lot.

I love running in December, January, February and most of March but the rest of the year can be rough. The heat coupled with the humidity wreaks havoc on me and I’ve definitely had some issues with hydration.

You may remember a while back I posted about my experience with rhabdomyolysis and in another post where I wrote about the effects what turned out to be too much fiber coupled with too much Gatorade which resulted in an embarrassing pit stop during a half marathon.

And then there’s the migraine headaches that I tend to suffer from after long runs when I don’t hydrate properly, I could go on and on, but the point is that over the past few years I’ve tried a lot of ways to keep myself hydrated but not always without doing more harm than good.  It’s been a process of trial and error.

Gatorade and Powerade will work in a pinch but they also really do a number on my stomach and I’m not all that fond of the way they taste or the contents.  Nuun also upsets my stomach, I thinks it the fizz, but this is a problem because if you live in Florida and you run as much as I do, you need to keep your electrolytes in check.

Fortunately there are no shortages of electrolyte supplements available. The problem is finding the right one. That’s why when I was approached by Replace SR to try out their sustained released electrolyte tablet I was a bit hesitant but since nothing else had worked thus far and marathon training was fast approaching I decided to give them a try.

Replace SR

I did receive the product for free to review but my opinions about the product are all mine and I can honestly say that I love it and I truly wanted to tell you about the product. I’ve already used 3 bottles of the tablets and I am confident in telling you this is my electrolyte replacement of choice and I’ll be using it from now on.

Replace SR is a sustained released electrolyte tablet which provides a continual release of electrolytes over 4-6 hours. It’s gradual so it’s less likely to upset your stomach and it provides your body with the electrolytes it needs as you sweat.

I take a tablet in the morning before I head out to run and 2 or 3 if I plan on running longer as well as on days when I cross train. I love the fact that the product is all natural and does not contain sugar, starches, artificial flavors or sweeteners, etc. but I also love the fact that it does not upset my stomach at all.

Another bonus is that I can take the pill before I head out to run so there’s no need to take anything with me and unlike some electrolyte replacements, I don’t have to mix it with anything. It’s also been nice to be able just to drink the water my body needs without having to add all the fluid and other junk that you often find in electrolyte replacement drinks.

I know I tend to bitch a lot about the heat and running in Florida but I can’t change that, it is what it is. With Replace SR I think I’ve found a solution to my electrolyte replacement that works for me and for long runs and marathon training, that’s invaluable.

Electrolyte replacement

Again, I want to let you know that I did receive this product for free to review, however, I really do love the product and I feel that it’s a perfect solution for me, and if you are still searching for an electrolyte solution, I highly recommend that you try Replace SR.
