Labor Day was a wash, sort of. What I mean is, it rained for most of the damn day.
I had planned on running in neighborhood for 5 or 6 miles before we made the trip south but the rain got heavier and heavier as the morning progressed. By 7am I did the only thing I could do and I jumped on the treadmill.
It was better than running in puddles and I always like to avoid the possibility of getting struck by lightning if I can help it. Don’t you?
Anyway, the rain started to clear up around 11am so we packed up the car and got ready for the trip south. MacGyver and my brother in law drove MacGyver’s truck and my sister and I followed in my car. Hank drove.
Our first stop was the Nokomis house to drop off and pick up some things. It wasn’t raining at this time but it was a bit overcast. Unfortunately, by the time we got to Englewood, rain.
My sister and I decided that while the guys worked on the boat we would hit up the grocery store. While we were inside it started pouring and my umbrella is about the size of a paper plate so I ran ahead and fetched the car and then we loaded it. It was only after that I realized the Publix bag boys actually walk you to your car with an umbrella and load your groceries for you! It sure would have been nice if I would have noticed first…
When we got back to the house the guys were napping so my sis and I snuck out to do a bit of fishing. We didn’t have much luck unless you count the gnarly catfish I caught and we don’t.
Around 6 my sister and I made a trip back to the other house to pick up some things
we’d MacGyver had forgotten, like the tackle box! Of course 10 minutes after we got there the guys called to tell us all the bait we bought earlier in the day was dead and we needed more. And conveniently, it was while we were in the bait shop that they texted us pics of the fish they were catching, heathens!
The rain let up around 7:30pm for a few hours and we had an opportunity to fish a little.
Unfortunately both of us had been fighting off headaches all day and my sister ended up with a migraine so we decided to make it an early night. The guys decided to go fishing around 10PM and about 5 minutes after they pulled out, the skies opened up and a monsoon ensued. Some days fishing just isn’t in the cards. It’s a good thing we’re going out again tomorrow.
So, what did you do for Labor day?
Did it rain where you are?
