A Birthday Manatee

So the birthday was awesome, of course, but it was made even more awesome by the fact that I got to share it with someone who has the exact same birthday, my nephew.

The birthday duo!

And I also got to spend the day with my amazing brother in law, sister in law and my beautiful niece.

When MacGyver asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday, I could think of only one thing and fortunately my nephew agreed.

Yep, that's the plan.

Yep, that’s the plan.

Unfortunately the fish weren’t out like they normally are in Lemon Bay probably because of all the recent rain, so we headed out to our little island paradise instead.

We found a ton of these babies.

By far the best part of the day was when this guy came swimming up to the boat.

Well, hello baby manatee!

Well, hello baby manatee!

Happy Birthday to me
From this Manatee
Who swam up to our boat,
And smiled and said cheese!

Does it get any cuter than a manatee? I think not!

Anyway, we spent the entire day on the water and a lot of time on the island. We found an old cypress tree with a shell display that was incredible. We took the opportunity to take a heck of a lot of photos, like these…..

After a full day in the sun we were cooked but we still managed to make it to dinner at Landy’s on the water in Englewood. It was the first time MacGyver and I had eaten there and it was delicious.

My absolutely wonderful and talented sister in law made a spectacular brownie cake for my nephew and I but we were so stuffed we decided to wait and eat it the next day.  And by eat, I mean devour…..

I had full intentions of updating on Monday morning but then….

This was calling my name

This was calling my name

The water was calling.  The beach, the pool, family surrounding us, and good times to be had.  And then, there was shopping.

We’re in Englewood through the day and then we’re headed back to Clearwater tonight where we’ll be for a few more days and then back to Englewood. The next few weeks are going to be a mix of family, fun, some work here and there, and of course, lots of running.

And now before I re-read that and exhaust myself, I’ve got a couple of pups who are waiting on a walk so I’ve gotta jet but I’ll see ya tomorrow.

How do you like to celebrate your birthday?

  1. I like to leave the country on my birthday! LOL I’ve only successfully done that once. The other trip ended up postponed a few months
I also prefer to take the day off from work.

  2. What a great way to spend the day!! The beach looks beautiful. Love the friendly manatee. My birthday falls right around the Boston marathon race day, so it’s been put on the back burner for the last few years while we cheer my husband on for his race! But this year I got to run Boston so I spent my birthday running the marathon. In the cold rain. Yep, it could have been a bit more enjoyable during the race – but the finish line was awesome 🙂

  3. That looks so so awesome!! What a fun time. I tend to run on my birthdays. Last year I ran 29 miles, this year I ran 30… I’d also be happy laying on the beach and not moving hahaha

    • Typically after running 29 or 30 miles, I lay down anywhere and don’t move, 😉 Kidding. But all jokes aside, I also love running on my birthday, it’s the one thing I really look forward to but I”m okay with under 10 miles. 🙂
