Friday – Five things, maybe six.

Hello from Venice. Yep, we’re in Venice. We got here last night. I’ve scheduled another doctors visit today so we came down early for the weekend.  If the doctor cancels again, you might read about it in the news…that’s all I’m sayin.

The Board Room

This is my bedroom boardroom in our Venice house, see what I did there?

Now before I go off and do some beach-y things and then visit the doctor I wanted to tell you about a few things.

First, let’s talk eating. I probably eat way too much of it, but for the record, I love bread. I do. I try to eat the healthiest versions of it but you can bet I won’t be giving it up anytime soon, especially after reading this article.  It sheds new light on the good and the bad of eating bread.

From the article:
The type of grains you cut makes a big difference here. For instance, a 2014 study published in PLOS ONE found that refined carbohydrates drive up the body’s levels of a fatty acid (called palmitoleic acid) to raise the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Meanwhile, according to the American Heart Association, whole grains can improve blood-cholesterol levels and lower risk of heart disease, stroke, obesity, and type 2 diabetes. The choice is clear.

It’s an interesting read, to read the rest of the article, click here.

Now let’s talk about running. Have you seen the latest issue of Women’s Running Magazine with Erica Schenk on the cover? I was so thrilled when I saw this.  I mean Women’s Running typically has a runner on the cover and often times it’s someone notable or a model.  Erica Schenk is an avid runner and a model.

A plus sized model!  Go Women’s Running!

A real woman on the cover! Imagine that.

You can click on the image above to go to the website and read the interview with Erica.

My favorite excerpt from the article is this from Erica:

“Women of all sizes deserve to be praised for good health and have a presence in the media.”

Yes they do Erica, yes they do!

Kudos Women’s Running, Kudos to you!

On a serious note, I’m not really sure what to think about Alberto Salazar. I am trying my best to give him the benefit of the doubt but is has been reported that as many as 17 more people have come forward.

I hope this is resolved soon and whatever the outcome, I certainly hope that if change is needed, it happens for the betterment of the sport and I gotta say I think Kara is pretty brave for coming forward and speaking up.

And moving on, let’s talk about one of my favorite things, running clothes.  I have the scoop on an awesome tank from Brooks that you can pick up from right now for some seriously small change!

And finally,  one of my favorite things about Venice is the Legacy Trail.  No matter if I’m running, biking or walking the dogs, I use it every time we come down here.

the Legacy Trail

I feel like I talk it about it so much that you guys probably feel like you’ve been there and I hope so because it really is one of the best running trails in Florida.  Anyway, I thought I’d turn the tables today.  Instead of me telling you about the same trail over and over again, it’s your turn.

Tell me about your favorite running trail or path and why I should go run on it, go!
