Racing against celebrities, how do you compare?

When I first started running I thought that maybe I wasn’t fast enough to run in races. When a friend finally convinced me to register for one, I looked up the race results from the previous year online and checked out my age group. My biggest fear was that I would be the slowest runner and actually finish last, but I was surprised to see that I wasn’t really slow at all in comparison. And I didn’t finish last. In fact, I finished 3rd in my age group and that’s when the obsession began.

Sometimes, I still look up previous race results, but mostly if it’s a race I haven’t run before and only out of curiosity. Nowadays, I like looking at the results of the elite athletes and following their training. But not to compare my time, Lord no, I’m no elite.

No these days, when I compare my times, I compare myself to celebrities and other notable people. The type of people who seem so unapproachable, so out of reach, so mysterious, so….slow. Okay, they’re not all slow. Some of them are fast as shit. But it’s fun to see which ones are in which category.

So, for a little throwback Thursday fun, let’s take a look at some celebrities and their race times, shall we?

  1. This was such a fun read! Thanks for it! Loved reading it, and I am proud to say I beat them all….hehe! I am impressed with Jennifer Love Hewitt though! It is good to see actual pictures of them running though, kinda cool! I am surprised mario lopez wasnt faster though!

    • I was surprised by Mario’s time too. Most impressed with Jonny Lee Miller. He was really fast and Joe Strummer if that was his correct time. Glad you liked it and I’m loving reading about your training! It’s so fun watching an elite in action 🙂

  2. That’s so funny because I just looked it up last week. My daughter and I were a tad disappointed with our finishing time in Chicago this fall but we feel better now. We are faster than Katie Holmes, Pam Anderson, Al Roker, Meredith Viera, Valerie Bertinelli, Freddie Prinz Jr., Tiki Barber and Jared from the subway commercials. 26.2 is an enormous accomplishment on its own and it is silly to be anything but thrilled to complete that ridiculous distance but this info on the celebrities warmed our hearts just a little!

    • YAY! I think it’s good to bring celebrities down a notch every now and then. We need to realize they are no better than us….or, as in your case, we are better than them! bwahahhahaha 🙂

  3. Ha! I’m not faster than any of them! I’m going to blame it on the ability of the celebrities to hire personal trainers and nutritionists who can assist them in preparing.
