Ringing in the New Year with Fire and Mud!

And we’re back! Happy 2015!

In case you didn’t know, we’ve been in Holopaw, Florida at our cabin in Suburban Estates. We’ve been going to Suburban Estates for quite some time and bought property there a few years ago and built a little cabin. It’s very, very remote.

That’s our cabin off in the background. This is the view of it from one of the many ATV trails.

We spent last New Years at the cabin so we decided to do it again this year and I think it may just become a tradition. We were there for quite a few days so I think I’ll do this recap in a few posts.

We got ready to leave our house on New Years Eve early in the morning. Hank was determined NOT to be left behind…

Nobody leaves without the Dachshund…NOBODY!

We packed up and left our house just after noon. Since it’s about a three and a half hour drive I packed the main essential for a long road trip.

Sudoku

SUDOKU!

I’m sure I’ve mentioned it before but MacGyver calls it Sadookie. Hilarious! Anyway with Sudoku puzzles o plenty, the time flew by and before I knew it, we were in the parking lot.

The thing about Suburban Estates is that once you get to the parking lot it can still take quite a while to get to your campsite. It all depends on several factors, not limited to but including mud, flooding, impromptu redneck gatherings, vehicles stuck in mud, wrecked or broken down vehicles, sugar sand, and soupy roads.

Once we arrived at the cabin our dogs were beyond excited. Hank was excited because his girlfriend Rosie was already there. Boomer was excited because there’s a pond and it was full. Hello swimming!

When are we going swimming? I came to swim!

I spent the next hour or so cleaning and organizing the cabin. It’s amazing how much dirt can accumulate when you haven’t been there in 4 months. Well, there’s that and the fact that the last time MacGyver was here, they had to leave in a hurry due to a little emergency situation, so the ATV’s were inside the cabin.

I think I cleaned it up pretty well considering it’s a cabin in the middle of nowhere, with no running water, etc., etc.

This is the lounge area. Yes, that is an HDTV because… GENERATOR! Creature Comforts people, I need them!

The other side of the cabin. What did you expect? I did mention it was small, right?

Before long it was time to get ready to go to the Mud Hole for a New Years Eve party. MacGyver and our friend Frank took along the hard stuff but I wanted wine. I drank 2 1/2 cups of wine out of my mossy oak travel mug from Bass Pro shops. (That sounds so much better than I drank a full bottle of wine doesn’t it?) Those travel mugs are awesome.

Hank and Boomer were not allowed to go to the fireworks at the mud hole specifically because, the hate fireworks. Rosie rode over on the back of Frank’s ATV and I got the best picture of her.

RoboRosie with laser eyes! She’s coming for you!

At the mud hole, there were many a bonfire and illegal fireworks. I’m not condoning, but hey, it is what it is. Everyone was having a good time. There was music and mud trucks and ATV’s, and Christmas Lights, because in Suburban Estates, mud trucks sport the Christmas lights and trees are for bonfires!

This is actually a mud truck with Christmas Lights, very festive and….muddy.

Fire's for everyone!

Fire for everyone!

mudders paradise

Fires, Fireworks, Mud, it’s paradise.

We stayed at the mud hole til around 1:00AM and then headed back where we all passed out pretty quickly.

We woke up on New Year’s Day ready to hit the trails.

I put Hank on the back of my ATV, (Boomer doesn’t ride, he prefers to swim), and we headed out….

And that’s where I’ll end it today.

What did you do for New Year’s Eve? What did you do on New Year’s Day?

Did you drink or stay sober?
