The recipe for the dessert that will change your life!

I think I promised y’all a recipe today. Typically I don’t share recipes because, well let’s face it, I don’t really cook. This recipe however is my Grandmothers and it’s for the best Christmas treat EVER. Hands. Down.

This will be your favorite thing from this point forward, trust me.
Side Note: I’m giving you the recipe for a double batch because otherwise you will have a shit ton of chocolate left over and no one in their right mind would throw away a shit ton of chocolate, am I right?

So, for the actual bon bons, here’s what you’ll need:

2 Cups (16oz) of Creamy Peanut Butter
2 Cups (16oz) of Confectioners Sugar
2 Tablespoons of softened butter
2 Teaspoons of Vanilla Extract

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix together

Roll the mixture into balls between 1 to 1 ½ inches round

Chill them in the fridge for an hour

For the coating, you’ll need the following:

A Double Broiler
¼ lb of Paraffin
6oz of Milk Chocolate Morsels
6oz of Butterscotch Morsels
(You can also use dark chocolate, white chocolate or any combination you choose. Just be sure to add 12 total oz of morsels.)
Put water in the bottom of your double broiler and bring it to a boil.

Put the top of your double broiler on and melt the paraffin first.

Next add the Chocolate and the butterscotch morsels.

Stir the mixture until all the morsels are completely melted. Be sure to turn your double broiler down to simmer at this point.

Now you’re ready to coat the bon bons.

After many years of making these, I’ve found the best way to coat the bon bons is with a fancy little culinary tool I call…a corn pick.

Coat the bon bons and then place them on wax paper.

I use a little fan to help them dry quicker but it’s not really necessary.

Once you’ve coated all the bon bons, you’ll want to go back and fill in the hole from the corn pick. Just quickly dip the other side and then place them back on the wax paper.

Let the coating thoroughly dry and then place them in a tin for the best gift ever!

  1. I’ll take two dozen please!! I am from the Cincinnati area and we call these Buckeyes and they are the best thing ever! I don’t think my Mom uses butterscotch though, just chocolate. I need to get a double boiler so I can make them. Yum.

    • LOL, they are delicious! And, look at garage sales for a double broiler. I bought my first one years ago for around 30 bucks and it was sort of crappy but I got another on at a garage sale a few years ago for 3 bucks and it’s the best one I’ve ever seen. 🙂
