Paddleboarding with Manatees and lots of running!

Hey, hey, hey! How goes it? I sure hope you had a fantastic weekend and a wonderful Memorial Day. We were in Venice with good friends and it was spectacular as always.

It’s been a while since my last post and so I have lots to catch you up on and I’m just gonna dive right in cause that’s how we play around here.

First, great news for all you Brooks Pureflow 2’s lover’s, DSW has them on sale right now for 39.99! I know, I almost died when I saw that. They have two colors available ( both of which I have and love) so I broke down and got some back-ups. They also have free shipping so two pairs of shoes for 80 bucks was pretty darn stellar in my book and I had to share.

Second thing. You really need to come to Venice, Florida and run with me. I love going down there and it is sort of convenient since we have a vacation house there but if you are anywhere near Venice please contact me and I will come and run with you.

I’m not sure if it’s because we are on vacation or if it’s because it’s just fun to run someplace else, but I almost always love every single minute of the time I run when we’re in Venice, seriously. This weekend I ran Saturday, Sunday and Monday on the Legacy Trail. I ran a total of 18 miles and I can honestly say there was not one minute when I felt like I wanted to stop, not one. Now, if I could only duplicate that feeling when I get home that would be epic but I think I’m just sort of tired of the running trails around here and I need to mix it up a bit.

As I mentioned before we had a few friends down with us this weekend and my friend Diane loves to paddleboard as much, if not more, than I do. She and I went out on the paddleboards both Sunday and Monday and guess what? We saw a manatee on BOTH DAYS! Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures of the manatees because I’ve learned that cell phones are not a good thing to take on paddleboards, just trust me on that, but the absolute best way to see a manatee is while you paddleboard beside them. They swim right beside you.

Venice Florida On Sunday, a baby manatee swam right up to us and alongside us and on Monday we actually paddled into a cove and there was a very large manatee just playing in the water. She actually swam around with us for quite a while and I hated that we had to paddle back to the boat because I didn’t want to leave her. Of course it wasn’t so bad on the boat either because the dolphins were also very playful over the weekend and swam right up to the boat.

We didn’t get a chance to go to yoga because the guys were really antsy to go fishing every morning and we really wanted to paddleboard but yoga on the beach is on the list for next time. We did however, go to the drum circle because there are some things that just can’t be missed….

Lastly, remember how I said that I had a lot of stomach issues and I was going to get some testing done to find out what was going on? Well, the long and short of it is…

I’m allergic to shellfish, some other types of fish, wheat and soy. I am also sensitive to chocolate and dairy including milk, eggs and ice cream, (among other things) and my life is pretty much over…kidding!

This has presented a challenge for us because MacGyver and the kid still eat some of these things and I’m okay with that, I just have to learn how to make alternative versions that won’t affect me negatively. I think one of the worst parts about developing food allergies later in life is that you aren’t accustomed to asking about ingredients and such and there is definitely a learning curve. So, if any of you have suggestions, I’d love to hear from you!

Well, that’s it. I’m taking the day off from running today so I can get caught up on some work so I better get going. I hope you all have a fabulous Tuesday!

    • Awe, thanks so much Susan. I’m still working on getting my speed back but it really feels so good. 🙂

  2. Paddleboard…hell ya! Dis hawaiian can stand on any board in the ocean, even a cardboard! Yoga?! Pass! Way to kill it on the runs homie! What’s next on the race schedule?!

    • Anytime you wanna paddleboard or surf, I’m there! 🙂 I’ve got a couple of 5K’s over the summer and then the plan is to train real hard for an end of October half. I’m going for a major PR on that one…I’ve changed my schedule a bit for quality rather than quantity and I’m pretty excited about it. I’m going to post it soon. 😉

  3. I didn’t know you were a paddleboard fan, we should go some time! I haven’t tried yoga while paddleboarding because I have zero grace and consider it a miracle that I can do yoga on solid ground or paddleboard at all. Maybe best not to push it…

    • LOL, yeah, I’m sort of afraid to try yoga while paddleboarding too. But I would love to go paddleboarding with you anytime! I love it. I haven’t done it much in the Tampa Bay area, mostly Venice, but I’d love to….I’ve heard the Dunedin causeway is a great place to go and also near Hogan’s beach…
