28 miles, birds, boats and dolphins.

Happy Tuesday!

I am back in Clearwater. You probably think we take a lot of vacations and the truth is…we take a lot of vacations. But, in our defense they are usually mini vacations and we work out butts off in between so we probably deserve to take time off every now and then.

Venice Florida

And when this is practically in your backyard, it’s kind of hard not to take some time off every now and then!

Anywho, one of my favorite things about going down to Venice are the trails that I love to run on. The Legacy Trail and the Venetian Waterway are two of my absolute favorites and very close to my home in Venice. In the 3 days that we were down there, I ran 28 miles on those trails and I loved every single minute of it.

Yesterday was beautiful so we took the boat out and I got some pictures of the trail that I like to run, but I took them from the water so you can get a better idea of the scenery.

Check these out:

Venice

This is the bridge that I run under. It looks even more spectacular from the water.

Venice Intracoastal Waterway

Another shot from under the bridge.

In this next picture you can actually see the train depot on the left as well as the Venice Water Tower.

Venetian Waterway

And the best part of cruising along the Venetian Waterway by boat or even running on the trail is seeing the dolphins that play in the water.

And do you remember a while back ago I told you that Osprey actually make nests on top of the channel markers? Well here is a little proof:

And because I know how much y’all love birds, I want to introduce you to a friend of mine. I call him S.C. No, he’s not from South Carolina. He hangs out in front of one of my favorite restaurants, the Saltwater Cafe, S.C. get it? Anywho, without further adieu, meet S.C.

He’ll even eat right out of your hand. Unfortunately, I had nothing to give him because I ate everything on my plate and probably some of MacGyver’s too! I’m good like that.

What did you do this weekend?

Do you take a lot of vacations?

Do you run or work out when you go on Vacation?

  1. Have to say that the first few times I would see Venice pop up in your blogs I wasn’t thinking mini-vacation because I thought you were off to Italy. Closer inspection showed me Florida. Yes I am a blonde! Thanks for sharing. My friend is leaving at the end of the month, moving to Florida. When he said it was to Clearwater I said, oh cool it’s nice down there. Prompting him to say…Cool, you’ve been there? Had to say no, but for some reason I know it is. Now I know why, it’s your blogs. Duh! Makes me feel better knowing it’s a nice place. Bonus is I see where we can go when the gang goes to visit him. Sure am going to miss him on our summer trail outings:(

As for the vacations questions, I pretty much don’t go on many vacations anymore. The boyfriend hates leaving the comfort of home. Now vacations are work trips (don’t happen too often anymore) and yes, I do workout on them. Sometimes in the gym, but I love to explore the cities on foot. One of my favorites is probably NYC. Been there so many times for work that people stop me on the street for directions and when I tell them I am on a trip too, they are surprised because as one said I “look like I’ve lived there forever, walking with a purpose” Funny:)

    • Your friend will love Clearwater. It is such an awesome place and when you come to visit email me and I’ll come take you running with me! I can pretty much guarantee you will see lots of peacocks and other amazing birds. 🙂

  2. Love the pictures. We Floridians are lucky!! I do run on vacation it’s like an adventure running in a new place. Ran in Pennsylvania February last year. Which takes me back to being lucky in Florida.

    Take Care!

  3. Great post! It makes me remember why I love living in the Tampa area.

My weekend was spent discovering the many adventures of the Florida State Fair.

I try to take quite a few mini-vacations since we leave in such a beautiful state.

When I’m on vacation I rather run and enjoy the scenic view.

    • I love the fair! I hope you had a great time. I couldn’t make it this year but I am really looking forward to the strawberry festival…we are so lucky to live here…:)
