My 7th Half-Marathon of the year, done!

And just like that, it’s over. The last half marathon of the year. I finished it. It wasn’t a goal race for me and I had no intentions of pushing myself, the point of this race was to have fun…oh, and to get this very cool medal!

She’s pretty sweet huh?

I’ll do a full recap and review of this race early next week but here’s what you need to know now. It was my worst race as far as time goes, my easiest race as far as effort goes, and my most painful race as far as injuries go but I survived and finished my last half marathon of the year. Done.

Last nite, I developed the most insane migraine headache ever. I didn’t want to take anything for it knowing this race was nearing, and so I went to bed hoping it would go away. It didn’t. I woke up at 4am this morning and tried stretching, meditating, ice, heat, nothing worked. So I ran the entire race with a migraine. And to make matters worse, I have the most insane PMS right now and that caused my piriformis to kick in. So basically, I ran 13.1 miles and I was in pain for 12.9 of them. I think I had a little relief at the start because of adrenaline and then at the end because I was glad it was over.

Don’t get me wrong, I was in pain and I wasn’t feeling competitive at all, but I did enjoy the race, if that makes sense. And if it doesn’t, maybe it will in my recap.

And look how cool the medal looks in its final destination:

After the race, I came home and showered and then took a nap for a few hours. My migraine is starting to subside but I’ve got a serious case of Dead Butt Syndrome.

It’s time to get my cross train on.

Hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend.

Did you run a race today? Did you do a long run this weekend? Ever had Dead Butt Syndrome?

  1. I have no butt to be dead 🙁

I get migraines…mine usually last 48 hrs and are totally cycle-related. They suck. Good for you for getting out there and making it happen 🙂

    • Awe, thanks. Wow, 48 hours, ouch. Mine too are cycle related but they usually only last a day to a day and a half with worsening naseau culminating into a puke fest that nobody wants to be invited to. I had no dramamine yesterday so I feel sorry for anyone at the after party if they finished after me and hadn’t eaten yet…sorry people 🙁

  2. I’m impressed that you ran a half with a migraine. I don’t get them, but from what I hear, they’re horrible! Congrats on getting another under your belt. Good job!

I ran ten miles yesterday, and don’t have any races on my calendar until next year.

    • Thanks! It wasn’t easy and I dont think I could have pulled off a full with a migraine but since it was only a half I pushed it. I don’t think I’ll ever do it again though, 🙂

    • LOL, the name is definitely funnier than it really is. I’m seriously paying for my lack of cross training, my butt is falling off.

  3. My running peeps and I just had a hilarious fb discussion about dead butt syndrome. Several of them say they have it. I can confirm that I do NOT because I’ve always done the painful and awkward glute exercises. Thank God for Billy Blanks. I hope you feel better soon!

    • LOL, thanks, I told my doctor for years there was no way that I could have it, because I’ve always had a bubble butt and I thought it was pretty powerful. I had no clue…apparantly, bubble does not = muscle! I must find this Billy Blanks and embrace the awkward!
