We all have some sort of annoying habit or ritual that we repeat often. I’m sure if you think about it you can think of at least one thing you do. Maybe, just one? No? Am I alone here?
Oh well, I don’t mind putting this out there, because if you know me in the real world style, you already know that I’m a weirdo and this post is not breaking news to you.
But, if you don’t know me, then you may not know that I’m a ritual lovin creature. For real. Hard core.
I also have some quirks and habits that unfortunately tend to occur subconsciously and sometimes even annoy my family and friends, yes, like humming, anyway;
Here are some of the things that I do before, during or after a run:
-I have to lay my clothes out the night before. If I don’t, I can’t run. I just can’t do it, period. I don’t know how anyone could pick out clothing at the last minute and then go running with absolutely no preparation, it isn’t natural.
-My ipod must be fully charged. There is no half, 3/4 or 5/8 charge, it must be fully charged or I listen to music on my phone. And I always bring my phone along just in case my fully charged ipod dies. The phone must be fully charged too, in case you’re wondering.
-My Garmin must be fully charged and I also have to clear all previous data. There are no exceptions.
-I have to double knot my shoelaces. There are no exceptions to this ritual. On the bright side, I have never had to stop to retie my shoes. Never.
-I always wear a visor. A visor is a double duty tool that keeps the sun out of my eyes and the rain off of my face and I cannot run without one, seriously. If I forget to take one on trips, the first thing I will do is go buy one.
-I save my thoughts for my run. If something is bothering me or I need to find a solution to a problem, I save it to figure out on my run, which inevitably, I am always able to do.
-I always plan my route before I leave my house and I never stray because I’m secretly afraid that if I were to get lost I wouldn’t have the energy or strength to get back. (This coming from a girl who has run 30 miles or more on several occasions, albeit planned runs.)
-I look behind constantly, as if the boogeyman is going to wait until I finish looking before he jumps out to get me….God, I’m weird.
-I hum when I’m running and sometimes it’s a different tune than I’m listening to on my ipod or phone. Don’t judge!
-I regularly fart when I’m running and find myself humming loudly, stepping on leaves or pounding my feet to try and mask any sound that may occur with said farts.
-I count the number of people that I pass on every single run.
-I write the number of miles on my shoe box and place my running shoes back in it after finishing my run.
-I record my miles, pace, and total time on daily mile and also in my personal running journal as soon as I finish running.
-I take a shower immediately after running, even if I need to mow the lawn.
