Sugar High Friday and the G-Sale, WORD!

Happy Friday! How are you?

I’m still on a sugar high from all the candy I ate yesterday and I’m not sorry about it one bit! Well maybe just a little, okay, not really. I still managed to give out about 200 bucks worth of candy last night. We get about 2-300 trick or treaters every year, it’s cray, I kid you not!

I ran 4 miles this morning, just 4 easy miles around the neighborhood. I had to hurry back because I’m hosting a garage sale with my Mom for the next two days because apparently that’s the cure for a sugar high. I probably should be running a little more since I have a little half marathon coming up on Sunday but when Momma says jump, I say how high, and so it goes.

You get to meet all kinds of interesting people when you have a garage sale. There are the familiar neighbors of course. Some of them probably just come by to be friendly and others to see what you have, as in, are you doing better than they are; and some who are really interested in what you have. I enjoy meeting the people that I don’t know and learning a little about each and every one of them.

Today, I met an elderly, hard working gentlemen who peruses garage sales in search of tools because someone broke into his garage and stole all of his. I felt bad that I didn’t have more to offer him because he was so sweet and it really pisses me off that someone would steal from someone like that.

I also met a young girl who works two jobs just to make ends meet and she recently discovered a love for basketball. She doesn’t have a lot of extra money and she was so thankful that I sold her some almost new athletic shorts and shirts for a grand total of four bucks. I hope she gets to play basketball soon because she was really excited.

I met lots of friendly people who probably just wanted to stop and talk, lots of bargain hunters, deal makers and even a few nuts; but my favorite by far was the little lady from Canada. She was in her seventies and used to be a synchronized swimmer for Canada. She bought tons of my running and yoga clothes. She was in great shape and I never would have guessed her age. I assumed the gentleman she was with was her husband. He spent the majority of the time in my garage in deep conversation with MacGyver while she spoke with me and my Mom.

As it turns out, she recently moved here to be with her boyfriend, (the guy in the garage), and she’s hoping it works out because she really enjoys his company. It was too cute, seriously.

To be truthful, I don’t’ really like having garage sales, in fact I probably hate it. I’d rather go to them than have one any day. It’s too much work and not usually enough of a payoff to justify the labor in my book, but I love seeing my Mom interact and talk to all these people and she works a garage sale like a boss. I’m sitting here typing on the computer so I guess it’s not all bad.

Hope everybody had a fantastic week and I hope you didn’t eat too much candy yesterday, and if you did, go run it off, that’s what I’m gonna do.

Did you eat a lot of candy yesterday? Do you like having garage sales or do you prefer going to them? Any big plans this weekend?

  1. Wow! That’s a lot of trick-or-treaters! We probably only had about 15 which seemed pretty low compared to other years.

After several yard sales, with the last few being very unsuccessful, I decided to just donate my things to charity in the future. It’s a lot less stressful, and at least you get a small tax write-off.
