Pet Peeves and other annoying things non runners do.

Hello! How are you doing on this beautiful Monday?

I cannot believe that we are 9 days into September already! It’s crazy how time flies when your training for a marathon, right? Of course, it would be nice if it were a bit cooler but it was only 74 or 75 this morning and we are only in the low 90’s during the afternoon, so who am I to complain?

Tampa bay Weather

I ran 6 miles this morning. I usually take Mondays off but this is a weird week and I have a race on Sunday, (see horrible weather prediction above), so I’m altering my training a bit, besides, if I would have taken today off, I wouldn’t have almost ran over an emu and a peacock this morning. I mentioned it was a weird week right? Good.

MacGyver and I made our weekly trip to Costco today. Have I mentioned how much I love Costco…I truly do. I got the staples today,

Costco Watermelon

Cosco FroYo

If I had to choose two foods to live on, it would be watermelon and froyo, for real. That’s all I need.

This weekend on my long run I thought about all kinds of things to help me get through that run. Most of what I thought about became the following list:

My top pet peeves and other annoying things you non runners do that piss me off, (in no particular order).

#7 I hate it when couples walk on the running path holding hands and refuse to separate so that I can easily pass. Be polite and let go of each others hands for one minute, it won’t kill you. Do you expect me to run off the path into traffic just to pass you? Really?

#6 I hate red lights that take forever. It’s one thing to have to stop but it’s quite another when you have to wait longer than 2 or 3 minutes for the light to change. It’s even more annoying when it’s on a road that isn’t all that busy.

#5 Inconsiderate Drivers. Do you think you get bonus points if you speed up and beat me to the crosswalk? Are you that late for something that it’s more important to run me down? If I’m running on the side of the road and there is no sidewalk, be considerate. Don’t speed around me and almost hit me because you are annoyed. My Lord, you just suck.

#4 Dogs not on leashes! Damn it people, be responsible. I don’t care how nice Fido is. I have dogs too but I don’t let them run after runners, or anyone for that matter. It’s not responsible, it’s cruel and you shouldn’t be allowed to own a dog and I’ll tell you that too, after I pelt you with some pebbles.

#3 Cars parked on sidewalks or paths. I hate having to navigate 20 or 30 cars in my neighborhood in the mornings. Frankly, it’s annoying and dangerous, and when I see that you could have pulled up and off the sidewalk, It makes me really hate you and I secretly want to steal your newspaper.

#2 Bicyclist who pass me going incredibly fast and way too close. If you have 3 more feet of sidewalk, then use it and furthermore, you do not own the trail. It was not built specifically for bicyclist, pedestrians have the right of way, so get off your high horse and YIELD TO ME!

#1 People who don’t smile back or say ‘good morning’ to me after I say it to them… or even acknowledge the fact that I just spoke to you and I was kind, you can just go suck it Oscar the Grouch.

I know, I know, it’s a long list but hey what else are you gonna think about during a 14 mile run? Tomorrow I’ll tell you my top pet peeves with running clothes and equipment.

What do you think about on long runs? I’d love to hear about any pet peeves that you have, tell me about them.

  1. Hello, i read your blog from time to time and i own a similar
one and i was just curious if you get a lot of spam remarks?
If so how do you protect against it, any plugin or anything you can
suggest? I get so much lately it’s driving me crazy so any
    help is very much appreciated.

    • Hello, I did get a lot of spam in the beginning but now I use ASKISMET and I highly recommend it. I hardly get any spam since installing it. I would say of the thousands of comments I’ve received since installing it, maybe 3 spam emails have slipped through. Good luck.

    • I think that gets me the most. It takes such little effort to acknowledge someone yet they just can’t do it…it’s really a shame.

  2. Oh my gosh the dogs on leash thing! Drives me nuts! I have been compiling a list like this in my head for a blog post myself :-). Mine will also include people smoking on a bike path, or at a race, while in the corral…

  3. I have several that come up slow to the intersection I am waiting at and then turn – no signal at all to indicate that I could have taken of safely, no hand gesture to say go ahead. I get so frustrated with that one and the ones that do not yield to me when in a cross walk – especially the under cover cop (you know who you are), seriously stop and let me go because it is the right thing to do. Obviously they are not runners or they would understand. Sorry to rant!

    • Rant on! I feel ya. Plus, I visited your site, and now that I know we are both in Tampa Bay, I totally understand! The drivers here suck it. We have the full range from speed demons to older drivers who probably shouldn’t be.. šŸ˜‰

  4. Dogs on 30 foot leashes. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve almost died / number of dogs I’ve accidentally kicked. Oh and cyclists over the age of 12 on sidewalks. We have bike lanes for a reason!

    • I do love running trails. There are some great ones near my Mom’s house in Tennessee, unfortunately there are only a few near me..
