A Sort of long run and Hank moves to a new home

Well I sort of got in a long run today.

I left around 7:15 am and headed toward the marina first. I figured if I did the 8 miles to the marina and back then I could finish the last 6 at home when the rains came. Unfortunately, the rains came earlier today.

At mile 4, I got drenched. I didn’t really mind because there was no lightning and hey, look at my view:

Bayshore Blvd. Safety Harbor, FL

I don’t know how well you can see them but there are some beautiful pink cranes on the lawn. This is one of my favorite running routes.

Anyway, I made it to the Marina and back and the rain stopped about mile 6. I continued on to my neighborhood and then just after I hit mile 9, OUCH! Pain in the knee. No matter what I did, it would NOT go away. So I did the only smart thing to do. I ended the run at mile 10, forgave myself, and came home where I R.I.C.E.’d it and then I foam rolled my hips, legs, calves and everywhere else I could reach. I feel much better now and tomorrow is a rest day so I’ll roll some more and ice a little. That should do the trick.

Sometimes, you just have to listen to your body.

Did you know that Old Navy is having 35% off the entire store this weekend? (They have some pretty decent active wear). And there are quite a few other sales going on too. I went by bed, bath and beyond just to look and I ended up purchasing a new bed for Hank. He didn’t need one but Oh.My.God. it is the cutest thing ever!

Hnk in the Cave

It’s called the cave and since he loves to crawl inside pillows, I knew he would love it and he does.

Hank the Dachshund

Old brown bed road is now just a memory and Hank has moved in to his new home at cave lane. I think when it gets cooler outside (those 3 days sometime in January), he’ll probably live in it. So, I must say goodnight. I need to help Hank fill out a change of address form and pack up his old house…

Have you ever had to cut a run short due to pain? Did you use the R.I.C.E. technique?

  1. Roll, roll, roll; and ice, ice, ice! I’m a firm believer in RICE treatment. Hopefully, when you go out tomorrow your knee will feel better!

    • Thank you. I think I rolled enough for at least three people, LOL. But that’s what you gotta do. Loved your post on listening to your body and ‘dead legs’.

  2. Is your picture in Safety Harbor? I was at Phillipe park Saturday and finished 11.50 miles right as the rain started! I got a great sunrise shot too! Today ( Labor Day… Yeah ) I ran 12.50 miles on the Dunedin causeway… Very hot and humid from early rain

    • Hi Cheryl
It is in Safety Harbor on Bayshore just before the marina and the rain, 😉 Way to go on your run on Saturday and today! That is awesome! The next time you are going to run in Phillipe Park let me know, maybe I can come and join you. Hope you have a great week! Happy Labor Day.
