Stung by some wasps, now I have a baseball glove.

I took the day off from running today. I usually do on Fridays. I’ve been working on a post for quite some time that I’m really excited about and I was hoping to finish it today but I wanted to finish up a little yard work first.

And then this happened:

Bee Sting

In case you’re wondering, that’s a bee sting. A wasp actually, well actually about 5 wasps. Unbeknownst to me, I picked up the nest. I’m allergic to bees but I wasn’t sure about wasps since I can’t remember ever having been stung by one, let alone 5. Holy heck does it hurt.

15 minutes later and anxiously awaiting for MacGyver to get home:

15 minutes after bee sting

And then 30 minutes later, finally MacGyver returns:

30 minutes after bee sting

45 minutes later and a trip to the pharmacy with MacGyver:

45 minutes after wasp sting

1 hour and 2 Benadryl later:

wasp sting

And to save myself the embarrassment, let me just tell you that my entire arm now looks like that and it’s red and swollen.

I do not seem to be having the typical allergic reaction that I get from a bee sting however the swelling is quite bad so I am treating it with regular doses of Benadryl and watching it closely. I am praying that it does not affect my long run tomorrow as I am really trying hard to stay on target with my marathon training and hopefully, I will also be able to work on that post I’m so excited about tomorrow or the next day.

I would like to leave you with a note of caution and some advice. If you do have an allergy or have had a severe allergic reaction in the past and you are supposed to carry an EpiPen, please do so. Also, check to make sure that it is not expired, and if it is, please get a new one. Runners especially, should always carry one if they have severe allergies. It could save your life one day.

Have you ever been stung by a bee or a wasp? Did you have an allergic reaction?
